There's no point in SLI unless you have stupid amounts of money to spend on computer. One high end videocard like 8800GTX is more than enough even with high resolutions and details.
Yes, I agree with that one.
Here is the machine I built for a customer last week:
EVGA nForce680i SLI Motherboard - Socket 775 (122-CK-NF68-AR)
INTEL Core 2 Extreme Quad Core QX6700 2.66GHz Processor - Socket 775 (BX80562QX6700SL9UL)
(The $1200 CPU)
CORSAIR 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz Memory (TWIN2X2408A-6400)
CORSAIR 2x1GB DDR2 800MHz Memory (TWIN2X2408A-6400)
(Yes, 2 of them, so 4 GB total)
EVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX 768MB PCI-E Video Card (768-P2-N831-AR)
EVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX 768MB PCI-E Video Card (768-P2-N831-AR)
(Yes, 2 of them, so $1200 worth of video cards)
LITEON 16x16 DVD-RW SATA Writer - Black (SH-16A7S06C)
WESTERN DIGITAL 250GB 7200RPM Hard Drive - 16MB SATA2 - OEM (WD2500KS)
LINKSYS 802.11g Wireless G PCI Card - (WMP54G)
COOLER MASTER REAL POWER PRO 850W (RS-850-EMBA)
COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 Case - 380W Silver (CAC-T05-UWC)
After Monitor, KB, Mouse, Speakers, a few other odds and ends, and Tax, about a $5800 computer. Alienware quoted him $7300 for the same rig.
The codes in () are for Manufacturer Model No.
I would user a deeper case next time if given the choice. While this case is normally very spacious, the EVGA 8800GTX is a VERY long card, and with 2 of them I invaded most of the HD mount space! Though the cables run very cleanly in this case, especially if you braid and re-route the front panel connectors to go behind the drive cadge.
And just think, in 6 to 8 months they will have games that will be able to use the power of those 8800 cards. . . .
