Epic Writers Block - Any suggestions?
« on: May 01, 2009, 03:10:50 PM »
I've had horrible writers block for almost a year now. I'll occasionally (through lots of prodding from my gf) manage to squeeze out a chapter here and there, but mostly when I try to write I just sit there, staring at the text file.
Sometimes I'll get a few sentences out, but then I read them and hate them and close the file in annoyance.
It's incredibly frustrating because I know where I want the story to go - I have the end planned out - but I can't seem to get it there. I can describe the remaining storyline and ending, but I can't write it out.
I'm referring to my big fic as "the monster" now. My gf even will refer to me writing it as "slaying the monster".

But it's not just the monster. I can't write ANYTHING anymore. I can just brainstorm and be silly about it, but I can't actually make anything come out. It's frustrating and incredibly annoying.

Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of writer's block?  :sweatdrop:

Hmm I totally know that feeling. That kind of frustration...

What have you been doing, really? Forcing yourself to continue on to the next chapter might actually be counter productive. Try free writing for a bit, write whatever you want to, however random or pointless. Free up the creative passageway. Don't force the fic. If you do, you won't be happy with the result.

If all else fails, just don't think about writing for the moment. Distract yourself with something else. Get that nervous energy out first, then come back again. Write on your own time, not on the expectations of others. You should write when you feel most like it, even if you know what's coming next and how to get there. Don't let impatience overtake you. The more you fixate on it, the less anything will happen.

Well, I dunno whether this will work, but I hope it does. Take your time. No rush. We'll still be here. :)

What she said. :yep:

To slightly expand on her "creative passageway" bit, perhaps find another medium other than writing (e.g. drawing, play-dough/clay, pipe cleaners, what have you) to figure out the specifics of what you want in your chapters? Even if it's just for yourself and you choose not to share them, at least you'd be getting ideas down.

I agree with what this user said.
his words and his text are so pleasant to read, even if it's just an opinion.
Well, one would expect, is Estrea.

for that other users can understand and enjoy writing.
first you have to love and enjoy what you are doing.
first you have to enjoy what he does at this point ...
be passionate about writing.
when one writes, thousands of experienced emotions.

well ...
another advice is: listen to music, watch movies, relax and enjoy.
sometimes want to write and the inspiration comes, depending on the mood.

um ...
not think about failure ...
it is better  say: not ... I am inspired by this moment ...
it is time to pause ...

writing is difficult.
the expression is more difficult.
that others perceive and understand to you, this is a challenge and a challenge for you.

but the most important thing is ... not be negative!
and most importantly have fun and enjoy what you are doing, feel the passion of writing.
not stopping to think this is wrong or this  is fine.
just let to  your imagination dancing in his head.
let yourself be carried away by the myriad ideas that arise in his mind. nEe?  :thumbsup
gamabarE!!

 :O
Now that I read this, of a writer of fan fic.  :err:  :cool2:
I apologize to the writers that I ask a next chapter.   :prayers: :mon ignore:
gambare  :thumbsup

have a good day, all.  :D

what i try to do is just write the general idea, and then i do something else to completely forget about it. When i return i usually end up with more stuff to write.

A writer worst nightmare.

I can totally relate it. I know the feeling, and probably I'm not the best to give an advance since i have it seems 4 months ago now since i write and have like 3 one shots without an ending lol but..

First like someone said don't push yourself. Try to relax. One thing you could do is to read again what you've been writing and try to feel the same that you felt at first and remember yourself why you stared in the same place. What emotion you felt and try to feel the story, think about it now and then, hear some music that maybe help you to find an emotion, i think that's the most important. Also you can read some other stories that you like maybe inspiration come to you, read something that inspired you or something that really like you. And also, when you're in front of the computer or in you notebook (don't know which one you used) start writing something, anything either as a part of the story or something completely different, just start to write something, that may b a good way to start.

Well, that's all i have hehe ^^

I write alot of songs and poetry, and when I have writers block, I usually take about an hour or two and go outside.  I like to look around, and forget everything but what's around me.  Then, I can come back inside and finnish.  Hope that helps.

@Casandra: Estrea's a girl. XD

I rarely have writer's block, but whenever I do, I listen to music. It helps a lot. :)
