Glad to hear it :) Nothing worse than finding out you've got faulty hardware after putting the whole damn computer together and then having to unbuild it to replace the thing

ROG gave you a pretty skin for CPU-Z. Kinda jealous. They give you pretty ROG stuff for Prime95 and RealTemp also?? hahah

Idk about you but I'm excited for Crysis 3. Nothings really tested my computer yet, though I think if I had Metro 2033 I wouldn't be able to run it on max fluidly.

Just CPU-Z.

I think the 3DMark problem must be a specific problem between the driver and benchmark - maybe it's only rendering using one GPU or something. I'll try again after it or my driver's update to see if that fixes the issue.

I'm definitely excited for Crysis 3. It and Bioshock Infinite are both pre-ordered.

So, guess what?

My 690 was set in power saving mode, and I didn't realize.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/303268?

After switching it from Power Saving to Maximum Performance, my 3DMark scores just about doubled.

hahaha good good. Who ships a 690 with power saving mode on default??? That's like shipping a ferrari with a mph/kph cap. Bastards..

In other news, Just switched out my stock H80i fans for a pair of Cougar Vortex's and the stock case fans with Corsair AF120's. Been meaning to do that. Very happy with both. Quiet and functional.

Been meaning to ask you, what kind of temps are you getting with that 4.6ghz OC?? Do you keep it running @ 4.6 or do you use OC software to manually do it when you're gaming or benching?

Who ships a 690 with power saving mode on default???

Same people that ship it with a DVI to VGA adapter. :P

I always keep it set to 4.6 via the BIOS - though Intel power steps it down when not in demand. After break-in time for the thermal paste to set, I get 26-30c idle and 42c CPU (83c internal core) running Prime95's stress test while also downloading torrents and web browsing (more or less silent while doing so too). The Noctua cooler is great, and the case is really perfect for it since it positions the top and rear fans to suck air off the heatsink.

The 690 does get a bit loud when running Crysis 3.

(Update: Eventually started warming up a bit after 30 minutes running Prime95, it had been in sleep mode all day, so took awhile to overtake the thermal absorption of the cold aluminium.)

LOL, yes. So true.

Running Prime95 small FFT's for ~40 minutes or so and here are my results on a tame OC:

Isn't this a bit high on a water cooler or am I just being worried for no reason?? I'm not using torrent or anything but I am typing this post lol.

the modifications I make @ Bios are:
At the AI Tweaker menu
-X.M.P. Profile
-Multicore Enhancement set to disabled
-Turbo Ratio set to manual
-Ratio Sync set to enabled
-Internal PLL overvoltage set to disabled
-CPU voltage set to manual (then put @ 1.20v)

At the Digi+ menu
-CPU load line calibration set to medium
-CPU power phase control set to extreme

Any tips/advice? I know Ivy runs hot and I know ~65c isn't anything to be worried about but I suppose I was expecting colder temps on such a tame OC. Could just be that the voltage is unnecessarily high for the clock speed. If that's the case then I'll continue tweaking and testing stability. I'll try 4.4ghz and 1.25v tomorrow when I have the time to sit here and babysit the computer.

Ivy doesn't need much voltage, so it probably makes sense to try trimming there first.

Oh, forgot to update about my overclocking "woes."

Figured out that my thermals are totally normal after talking to h80i owners so I was worried for no reason. 85c on a 4.4ghz OC running prime95 is completely inline with whats to be expected from the h80i. However, the thing that I DO blame myself for is that the H80i isn't as good as I thought it'd be. I should have gotten the h100i or some other comparable water cooler that comes with a large radiator. Anyone in the market for an h80i? I know I just kinda shit on it but 85c is nothing to sneeze at and is totally within safe temps for the overclock I achieved. It's just that I could've gotten 10 degrees cooler for 10 extra dollars and some patience and it's frustrating to think about. Gah.

Also, I probably didn't get the golden CPU as there is fluctuation in quality in any given CPU. I see people getting 4.4ghz on less voltage but mine just doesn't seem to want to cooperate. Oh well.

Probably several years ago, some of the stuff in my PC was hot shit.  Anywho, here's my "budget gamer" setup:

CPU:  AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
Mobo:  MSI 770-C45
GPU:  MSI Radeon HD6870 Twin Frozr II (with +20 MHz factory OC although I have cranked it up to 950/1100 a few times)
RAM:  8GB Corsair Vengeance LP (Black)
HDD:  320GB Western Digital SATA (used a lot) + 500GB Seagate Slim SATA (Rarely used.  Probably should start loading more games onto this drive)
CD/DVD:  Pioneer DVR-111D
Audio:  Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio
Monitor:  24" Acer H233H (with busted power button)
Peripherals:  Logitech Wave Keyboard (corded), Logitech MX400 Performance Laser Mouse, Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows
PSU:  700W OCZ GameXStream
Case:  Cooler Master HAF 932

It's still a great computer. Timeless case, CPU is still very good even by todays standards (similar to a 1st gen i5/i7 if I remember correctly), 8gb of ram is plenty, lots of HDD space which can cheaply be increased, and your GPU could handle the majority of games out right now.

My sisters system was about to give up, the noise it made even through the phone was  :bleed eyes:

She needs a good and fast system for graphic programs for her school, so I sent her the main system from our living room, that one is for the complete multimedia and for gaming.

So daddy needs something new

I don't have the time to search, whats good or not and to compare prices, so just gave a collegue a budget and what I want...
A relative has a computer-store, that guy is a real freak :D The store looks crazy.

I did a short check in a big onlineshop, just with the main parts I stopped looking at 3k  :D

^ this is always a great place to start if you're planning on doing a build it yourself. If not, 3rd party companies like cyberpowerpc.com are a decent option if you want to stay away from mainstream manufacturers like Dell or something like that but they skimp on quality with certain parts that shouldn't be skimped on like the motherboard and power supply if you're going for one of the more modest builds.

That being said, what is it that you intend on doing with the PC for the most part? Gaming? Video editing? Browsing the internet with some light gaming? Just browsing the internet? Knowing this will give me a much better idea what direction to point you in and what advice to give you.

Got two more Dell UltraSharp U2713HM displays on the way - once my new desk arrives in mid-July, I'll be playing at 7680x1440. :D

(I'll pick up a second 690 is August to drive them all.)

The monitors are here - waiting for my new desk to set them up on.

My P280 doesn't have any side-venting for VGA cards - which might be a problem. It's compatible with the Antec Eleven Hundred side panels though - so I ordered and Antec Eleven 1100, from which I can steal the windowed and vented side-panel where I can mount some fans to keep the 690 cool. The P280's original side panel can be attached to the Eleven Hundred and I can sell that to a friend who builds PCs.

Should be a pretty significant upgrade.
