UP11“That was funny.” Eri was bursting into uncontrollable laughter after glancing sideways. She didn’t intend to laugh but couldn’t help it when the previous event flashed back inside her mind. How the slightly older woman reacted when the thunder erupted. “Definitely you’re not labeled as the reaction queen for nothing” she added while trying to control her laughs.
“It ain’t funny!”
“Oh believe me, it was. You looked like a scardy cat out there.”
“Mou...” Risa broke her eye contact with the turtle and stared on her wet sneakers stomping on the accumulated rain water, pouting. Extracting more giggles from the turtle.
“What are you two laughing at?” Reina’s voice penetrated the noise that the rain produced, gaining the attention of the two rain-drenched women.
“Oh hi! I didn’t notice you’re here.” greeted the turtle after seeing the three staring at them.
“Of course you won’t, you’re too busy looking and holding someone’s hand.” The yankii growled through clenched teeth.
“What’s wrong with you?” asked the smiling Eri.
“What’s wrong with me?!” Reina’s voice raised a few octaves higher than normal “Oh, nothing much, we’re just here waiting and worrying about you two while you...”
“Ano...” Risa butted in and was about to say more when a lightning struck and a crashing thunder followed, making her jump and run frantically while screaming at the same time, totally scared. She was trembling, her eyes clamping shut and was babbling incoherent words whilst clinging onto someone tightly.
Pivoting from her feelings of concern and jealousy, Ai finally let her smile grow, when giggles echoed inside and outside the porch after regaining their composure back.
When the growling of the thunders finally subsided and her fear somewhat gone, Risa opened her eyes and looked at the eyes of the person she bear-hugged.
“Was I really overly reacting?” she softly whispered
“Kind of”
Wearing her puppy eyes and her pouty lips, Risa continued “But I was totally scared”
“I know”
“I’m sorry we made you all worried.” The bean uttered in a low voice after letting out a sigh.
Messing the bean’s wet hair at first and then running her fingers through the hair, trying to untangle the mess by combing it with her fingers, Ai replied “It’s okay. You’re safe, that’s all that matters. Why don’t you go take a hot bath before you catch a cold?”
“How about you and I soak in the tub together?” Eri suggested not looking. She was bending down, unlacing her shoes, totally unaware of the people’s reactions.
After hearing the offer, Ai stiffened. Her eyes then focused on Risa’s face, trying to decipher the bean’s thoughts. Risa seemed like she’s contemplating about the offer. She was even playing with Ai’s shirt’s hem and her face turned redder in every second that went by.
‘Will Risa say yes?’ ‘What will I do if she will?’ ‘And when did deciphering Risa’s thought become hard?’ Ai’s train of thoughts was cut when the bean opened her mouth to respond, which made her heartbeat race and waited anxiously for the words to assemble.
“Oh, it’s okay. You go first, I’ll bathe after you.” Ai was not sad with the bean’s answer neither totally happy with it. Negative ideas were still running inside her head, but she was relieved nonetheless.
“Are you sure?” Eri asked tilting her head to the side while eyeing the bean. When Risa nodded, she gave out a sweet smile and headed toward the house. But before reaching the door, she paused and ruffled the yankii’s hair and scampered away toward the house entrance whilst laughing.
“She’s so happy” was all Sayu could say.
“Whatever it is that you’ve done that make her this happy… I’m grateful.” Reina mumbled before following the turtle. “And if I were you, I’d better go inside or I’d be dealing with cold.” She added.
“Aichan, lets go prepare for our ba... Achoo!”
