I think I might be starting to form a love hate relationship with this Tokyo Performance Domo/Doll Domobics song.

Another 1st gen member graduated from MAPLEZ, now there are only two 1st gen members left. If these two leave too I'll lose interest in the group.

Ofc you like it, I figured out the requirement for you to like idol music and it's basically - screaming

Ooh, very probably, you might be right! There's always something missing in those rock-styled idol songs when there's no screaming. It's always definitely a highlight of the song for me.

Well, I can still like a song without them having a cute member... but whether I get into the group without one is unlikely...

I see no worth in liking a song without liking the group or rather the rest of the groups output.

Sometimes music is enjoyable to listen to as music... with no strings attached etc...

You've never listened to a song and enjoyed it without being emotionally invested in the artist who produced the music?

Well, how to explain it? I can't say that I never liked a song as such. But my usual reaction is the following: I look up the band and check out if they appeal to me in general. if I don't care about the group, or I don't like it, I loose all attachment to the song completely. For example: Blur's "Song 2". A good tune but I would never listen to it voluntarily, as I don't like Blur. (Team Oasis, lol)

New DISDOL video

I really like the songs I've heard from them, but they somehow lack something - maybe they should add ONE great singer, they all sound so bland.

I will definitely go see them again for the mini-album launch, maybe I get to pinch the cheek of Kyoko again :)

The recent convo in this thread made me wonder - what are the qualities you are looking for in an idol group?

For me, this is what I'm looking for, maybe in order, and, well, for me to follow a group, they don't need to tick all the following boxes:

  • Good music
  • Fun live shows
    • (frequency/accessibility of live shows)
  • A cute member
    • (yes, just one, for me, if I like more than one, I can find that problematic)
  • Fun buppan
  • Good SNS
    • (not sure how quantity/quality/level of interaction comes into this)

In reply to your questionaire I would consider liking the music as the defining factor. The other points you mention are more or less bonus and very subjective, there to increase your bond with the group, which is without a doubt very important for really following an idol group (main difference regular band <> idols)

The attitude of the general fan base can be a factor as well.

For me it would be music first.

Then, well it occured to me that the place where you reside will also be a factor for most people. The quality and frequency of fan interaction will matter most to the ones who can regularly attend these events, and much less so to foreigners I would think. This is probably at the bottom of my list but it still matters.

Great lives is pretty big, even if I can't attend them. I can still watch them on dvd or online.

Also, their online presence. If they're pretty active on twitter, FB, YouTube, then it makes following the group even more enjoyable.

Edit:
Oh, uh yeah. If one or more is cute it kinda helps.  :D

If anyone cares: Hara Ayano of PiiiiiiiN will graduate on September 14. She wants to start a career as a singer-songwriter.

Well, 969 (Clock) may be disbanding soon, but one of their member's did this nice acoustic guitar cover of Radiohead's Creep:

^ Strangely was just seeing some of her recent tweets yesterday... her lives look pretty wild... damn those songs were pretty good.

Why is she pouring water on someone's crotch?
