I think she's a lot like Niigaki sometimes, especially in Kami no Shizuku.

Riisa Naka to star in new live-action "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo" film

Wed, October 28, 2009 (1:47am EDT)

It has been confirmed that Yasutaka Tsutsui's popular sci-fi novel "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo" is getting another live-action movie adaptation. The cast will be led by young actress Riisa Naka (20). "Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo" has already inspired several adaptations in film and television. The first live-action movie was directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi in 1983, starring Tomoyo Harada. Haruki Kadokawa did a second film in 1997 with Nana Nakamoto as the lead. Most recently, in 2006, Madhouse produced an award-winning animated film based on the story, directed by Mamoru Hosoda.

Naka provided the voice for the protagonist in the animated film. She will play a different character in the new live-action movie, which is an entirely new story. Naka takes on the role of Akari, the daughter of Kazuko Yoshiyama (played by Narumi Yasuda), who was the heroine in the original novel and the first two films. Akari is going on to university, but after Kazuko falls unconscious due to a car accident, she leaps back in time to the 1970s and begins searching for her mother's first love. The film is the feature-length debut of director Masaaki Taniguchi. Theatrical release has been scheduled for March 2010.

Definitely looking forward to this. I enjoyed Toki wo Kakeru Shojo a lot and Riisa is awesome. It's too bad there aren't more magazines with Riisa around though

Riisa Naka sings for "Zebraman 2"

Thu, January 21, 2010 (12:58am EST)

Up-and-coming actress Riisa Naka (20) will be singing for her upcoming movie, "Zebraman 2." She will provide the film's theme song and an insert song, though the titles and release dates have not yet been revealed. The film, which is Takashi Miike's sequel to his earlier "Zebraman," once again stars Sho Aikawa (48) as the titular superhero. Naka plays a character known as the Zebra Queen. To complement the near-futuristic setting (2025) of "Zebraman 2," Naka's songs are up-tempo trance tunes. For three months, the actress had to undergo voice training and dance lessons. The two songs are expected to be released in April, before the movie opens in theaters on May 1.

Who had the biggest breakthrough in the first half of 2010?

In Oricon's most recent survey they asked female high-school students about which actress they think had the biggest breakthrough throughout the first half of 2010. The Top5 doesn't really consist of absolutely newcomers in the industry but actresses who never really had that much of a major following before 2010. They might have appeared in a couple of low-budget movies already, had a few roles in drama series here and there, but their popularity still had much room to increase.

According to the female students, actress Naka Riisa (20) is the perfect example and voted her onto the first place. People might have known and seen her before, but this year she truly had her big breakthrough with two major roles in the live-action adaption "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" and the cult movie "Zebraman 2". Especially her role as Zebra Queen in the Zebraman movie left a big impression in the minds of people. "ZebraQueen was absolutely impressive," one student commented. Before she used to have a pure image like many of her colleagues, but that role really the changed opinion of many. Further she even used that role to gain some experience as a singer. "Dramas, movies and now even music. I think she has been one of the most active actresses this year," another student praised Naka. Her activity doesn't seem to end anytime soon as it has already been confirmed that she will have her first TV starring role this summer in the drama series "Nihonjin no Shiranai Nihongo".

Despite all this, Naka herself was really surprised when she heard that she ranked first in this ranking. "It's a huge surprise that people voted for me. I'm really happy to be on first place, but it's all thanks to the continued support of my fans that I was able to do my best so far. I'd like to continue to try my best and deliver nice performances without forgetting the initial resolution I had when I first started acting," she said. Naka had her debut back in 2004 and with turning 20 last year, she made a big step forward in her career. There is no doubt that she is going to become an even bigger name in the industry from now on.
