Hello everyone~!

This story basically have been in my mind for like forever.. but was never written out.. cause my language is really bad.. so i always have a hard time writing them.. and eventually gives up~

This chapter and another took me the whole day...

The original story was for Natsuki and Shizuru from Mai-hime but i did a little editing and here goes the M.M version...

Hope you people like this first chapter..It is mostly background for this chapter.. The story starts from here.. the characters will be coming in shortly..

Please tell me if it is worth to continue on before i crack my brain further to write the rest of the story..

Kumudini - The white night lotus

Chapter 1 - Esmerelda's The Ice Palace

“I would need some verification, Sir”
“Niigaki Reito, Commander of Kumudini”

Recognizing the full blossom white lotus on the man’s slash and the emerald ear stud on his left ear, the guards bowed as one of them led them through the forest beyond the gates.

“Amazing…”
The young lady right behind Niigaki Reito thought, as she takes in the fascinating sight of greenery around her. Yes, she had been to Esmerelda, the mystical land, a few times but never had she manage to step foot in the Ice Palace grounds. It is where the grand elves live and is considered the scarcest place in Esmerelda.

Esmerelda, the land of elves, is a dimension not known to most human. It is paradise to magically creatures and beings.

Once, human did co-exist with magically creatures and beings, such as dwarves, fairies, and nymphs. Some of them were taught of simple spells and were later known as druids or mages.

As time passes, the human population flourished and it was before long that some starts to have minds of their own.

“Why need them when we already have mastered their skills? Why use their magic when we made one that is more powerfully? Why not overthrow them and be kings? Why not have them serve us instead? It WAS their land but now it IS our EARTH. Why? Why not?”

The powerful magic that the foolish mages thought they have made up was nothing more than just dark magic. It is just the easiest magic to practice and perfected, if you have the right kind of heart. And who doesn’t?

Of course, many power-thirsted mage falls for it even as all the magically creatures along with minority of the mages opposed to the usage of such unknown magic.

The most popular spell? Summoning.

The catastrophe of war between the Light and Dark was inevitable.

Eventually, the land had become so distorted and instable that summoning portals were able to open and close by itself on freewill. Earth plunged into darkness as countless dark creature roams around out of control.

Needless to say, many lands were destroyed. The air no longer smells fresh, no longer emit the same type of energy like it used to. It was nothing but turning into a wasteland.

Retreating was the best option at the moment and let the dark mages have a taste of their own medicine. That was when they stumbled across Esmerelda. Many had thought Esmerelda, the land of elves, was just a legend. It was believe that Esmerelda is the birth land of all elves. It was a land filled with forests and rivers running across to every corner of the land. The air smelled sweet and the land was filled with magically energy. It was paradise.

They were welcomed by the elves that populated the land. From there, they learnt that a protection spell had been cast upon the land, but when and by whom or what, nobody knows. It had been like it had been all along. But what was known was that it is definitely connected to the ancient sycamore tree at the heart of the land for it was covered by unimaginable vast amount of forests and the lands’ magically energy seems to be emitting out from the tree and spreading throughout Esmerelda.

The place was then known as the forbidden scarce grounds of Esmerelda. Everyone knew better then to go into that area. Even though they could not see but they could feel this overpowering energy creating an invisible barrier around it.

It wasn’t long before the dark forces caught up with them. That was when a group of raven elves emerged from the forbidden land and wields so much power that the dark army was wiped out of the Esmerelda within a day.

They were believed to be the descendant of Grand Elves that people thought have vanished from the surface of Esmerelda, for they stands out from all the elves with their raven hair instead of golden. Grand elves were the pure blooded elf, not a single drip of blood in them is mixed with any.

Their powers were believed to be interconnected to the land of Esmerelda and were the “heart” of Esmerelda. Or rather, it was a particular elf. Leader of the pack, the Arch Elf, is marked with a tribal moon-shaped symbol on the side of her neck. Her presence itself was so overpowering, like she was a higher being but yet surprising serene.

As for Kumudini, it was put together later, led by the fearsome elven fighter, Niigaki, to wipe out the remaining dark forces on Earth and to secure the biggest portal that is directly linked to the dark world.

As for now, Earth is of what we see today. Elves, mages and magic were all but myths. Humans have long forgotten this unrecorded dark past.

That was what the blue-eyed lady had learnt in her “special” history lesson when she was young though.

The blue-eyed lady was so captivated by the surrounding that she almost knocked into her grandfather had she not reacted immediately when he stopped suddenly.

“Welcome to the Ice Palace” she heard a voice said.

Wow, this is good. And you say your language is bad? No way!

Now, on to the fic. I watched Mai-hime and I loved it. I can't remember the character's names but I'm sure I liked Natsuki. Holy, so Niigaki is a guy? Hawt

I started reading this, then Firefox got cut off and I forgot I didn't finish it.

But now that I've finally finished it, I have to say I'm very interested! Also I'm impressed with your grammar, I didn't notice any typos, though there were a few cases of phrases that weren't quite right, but in a cute way.

Just wanna tell you people that the comments really made my day and make me feel it is worth cracking my brains on the computer for the whole day on my off days.. =]

Oh.. I think my language is pretty bad cause it will take me really long to be able to get something out hence i'm grateful to the person that design and made Microsoft Word's word check.. should have seen it when i'm typing.. LOL.. I see red and green lines everywhere!

Even though i had first few chapters out for the Mai hime version..but there was not much plot so i decided not to waste the intro story and make it into a MM version..so i seriously settled down to think through the plot.. Anyway..even though the original story was for Mai Hime..but the plot was never out..so this story that you are currently reading just is still pretty original =]

Points to note:

Basically everything is very magically..so don't think of anything too modern..Clothings and buildings too..

Elves -Normal elves..usually have blue eyes and blonde hair

Grand Elves -Pure blood elves.. Black hair (or raven which is the description i use more often) and the eyes colour will come on shortly when the character is out

I don't wanna spoilt the fun..so i'll explain the more complicated stuffs about this chapter at the bottom..Enjoy!

Chapter 2
The Ice Palace’s New Guest

Esmerelda - Land of Elves

Esmereldans - residents in Esmerelda

Ice Palace - the scarcest place in Esmerelda where the grand elves live

Kumudini - means the white night lotus. A force formed by the Niigaki family, a long linage of elven fighters, that secure the portal on Earth that was linked to the dark world

Hakama - A type of Traditional Japanese clothing wore for Kendo training

Torii Gate - A traditional Japanese Gate.. just without those water

Gaki - In case for people who didn't know.. it means brat in japanese

Aranrhod - means silver circle. Used by Esmereldans to enter the Ice palace.

The Keeper of Aranrhod - In charge the Aranrhod

Inukami - Direct translation would be Dog God but they are just dog spirit with magical powers. They are from Japanese Mythology known as 犬神, but minus all the horrible scary part if you read up from Wikipedia. They are just normal dog spirit found in forest.

“Welcome to the Ice Palace” she heard a voice said.

Stepping out from behind her grandfather, she saw the owner of the voice that greeted them. She was dressed in an ivory white elven robe put together by golden threads. From the material of her clothes, the blue-eyed lady knew she was no mere servant. Behind her was a torii gate. Not only was the land behind the torii gates surging with power but the greenery in there seems to be a little different from the ones outside.

“How to you do, Niigaki-san”
“Still alive. Matsuura-san?” Reito replied with a sloppy smile on his face.
“Usual. And who might be this fine lady be?”
“Niigaki Risa, 28th generation of the Niigaki family.”
“And soon to be Commander of Kumudini I supposed”
“I’m one of the worst in my family linage and the only reason being I’m fortune enough to inherit the title is that I’m the only heir” she replied humbly and gracefully.
“Nii..”
“Gaki, please, Niigaki is for my grandfather, Matsuura-san”
“Brat?”
“I can be one if I tried now but it’s just a pet name the old man gave me during my younger days. He can handle a horde of demons then but not little me.” Risa said with a grin.

A loud sigh could be heard beside them, followed by some soft murmurs. Aya could not help but giggled when she saw the contrast of Risa’s gracefulness and the frown on Reito’s face. Apart from the similar family hakama they were both wearing, it was hard to imaging that they were even blood-related for Risa had chestnut brown hair with a little of dark blonde while Reito’s were all blonde. Even though both their eyes were blue in colour, but Risa’s were blue with a tint of purple in them while Reito’s were of clear crystal blue. Finally, it was their ears. Reito still had the trademark pointed elven ears but Risa just had normal ears. But, in Aya’s opinion, the mischief still runs in the line.

“Please call me Aya then, Gaki-san”
“Aya-san, please pardon my grandfather just now and for all other sins I believe he had committed here” afterall, her grandfather was known as the ever carefree commander of Kumudini, but no one complaints as they all knew he is the best and still is the best at what he does.

“Hey!” Giggles could be heard again from Aya.
“And this cute little one?” Aya squats down to scratch the little white furball behind its ear. It had the most beautiful sliver eyes Aya had even seen.
“Eri, my Inukami” Eri barks at the mention of her name
“Nice to meet you, Eri-chan.” With a final pat, Aya stood up and hands Risa a sliver bracelet.
“Anyway, please put this on.”
“So this is Aranrhod.”
“Yes, the silver circle of protection. We are blessed by this bracelet to be able to serve Her Majesty.”
“And a special one for the little one” Aya said as she puts on the sliver ring on Eri’s dog collar.

Aranrhod was made long ago by a loyal mage so that he and other willing Esmereldans were able to serve the grand elf. No any other bracelets will look much like the Aranrhod. Around the Aranrhod, were engravings of ancient writing and there is an unmistakable emerald, which can only be found in the palace land. This gem protects the servants of the land and allows them to pass through the invisible barrier. It was said that each and every of this bracelets were made by the mage and later, by his decedents. They were also known as the Keepers of the Aranrhod.

Needless to say, from Aya’s last name and the robe she wore, Risa had already figured out that Aya was the current Keeper of Aranrhod.

After Risa slipped the Aranrhod onto her right hand, magically, it seems to shrink until it fits the size of Risa’s wrist, making it hard to slip out again.

And then it hits her. Her powers had been contained. She felt as if her body was missing something familiar and she was saddened a little by the thought.

“How are you feeling, child?”
“Contained… so… to enter the Ice Palace is to contain your own power?”
“Yes, but not all. It just minimums the offensive power. The barrier forbids entry to anyone other then Her Majesty and Her Highness. With the Aranrhod, or more specify, the emerald, it hides your power and sends out a certain aura much similar to Her Majesty to gain access into the Ice Palace. “

“Reasonable exchange, it sort of made them protected from anyone that enters palace as well. Look~ Eri is as carefree as ever still.”
Eri was just bouncing and running around excitedly, fascinated by the new surroundings as if she was totally unaffected by the sudden containment.

“Shall we?”
Aya giggled, while stepping aside to allow them through the torii gate while introducing herself to Risa.
As for Reito, he does not the Aranrhod as loyal subjects like him that requires being in and out of the palace often is given the emerald as the form of an ear stud.

Upon entering the torii gate, Risa now knew why the Ice Palace was named that way. There was a significant change in temperature once they stepped passed the torii gate and as they walk further into the forest, Risa cannot help but be amazed the second time today by the greeneries. But these were different from the ones she had seen outside the palace grounds. The trees and flowers were all magically covered by a thin layer of ice, like crystals on them. The colour of the surrounding too seems to be a shade duller than it is to be due to the light mist covering the area.

As they proceed on, they pass through yet another torii gate and were now right in front of the palace. This place truly surprises Risa to no ends. The palace was much like the one they had during federal Japan.

“This is the West Wing where all the guest quarters are. The East Wing over there is the Keep of Aranrhod, which is where chamber is too. And the North Wing is the where the grand hall is and the banquet will be hang there later on. Further North would be the royal chambers.”

“This will be your quarter for the next few days, Gaki-san. Your grandfather’s will be just down this corridor. I believe it had been a long day. Please do rest well and be at the grand hall later on in the evening.”
“Thank you, Aya-san. See you later at the banquet and if you will excuse me for now. Eri~ Come on in.” Risa smiled as Eri quickly made her way into the room and closed the door lightly. Aya then further escorts Reito to his quarters.

“What a day…” Risa sighed as she lay on the bed. Eri joined her on the bed and starts licking Risa’s face. Giggling, Risa pushes Eri away from her face and hugs her to her chest, stroking her soft fur. Eri finally settles down and snuggle into Risa’s neck. Before long, Eri was already sounded asleep. Closing her eyes too, Risa took in a deep breath and finally took the time to feel the palace. She was still not used to having part of herself contained. There was nothing she can do about it and a good rest seems more important now. Soon she too joined Eri in Lala Land.

I have been doing much speed updating due to the story's magically themes, it requires alot of background, much so that my the other main character is not out yet.. Promise she will be out by this week

Chapter 3
Esmerelda’s Banquet

As the sun began to set, Risa was already dressed in her ceremonial hakama. The one she had came with was a normal hakama, more for outing and fighting purposes but the one she is wearing now was entirely black except the blood red slash around her waist. It was the first time she was wearing it. On it was a half blossom white lotus, signifying she was the next heir of Kumudini. This was the reason why her grandfather had brought her to the banquet. To be introduced as the next commander of Kumudini.

While tying her hair up into a high ponytail, she called out “Eri~! Are you done? We are going to be late.”

“Mou~ Gaki-san, we still have thirty more minutes.” Risa looks up into the mirror and saw the sliver-eyed girl from the mirror reflection. She was too dressed in a hakama.

Inukami are able to transform into various forms such as human but they mainly prefers to go around in their primary form.

“And that is the reason why I’m always thirty minutes earlier.” Risa sighs as she stood up and walked towards her pup.

“Ears and tail.” Risa reminded her pup. Most of Eri had already been transformed to her human self apart from the mentioned two and some of her ash-white hair. Generally, most of her hair was dark brown in colour now.

“But I like them” Eri pouted

“Yes I think they are adorable too but you know we couldn’t have them at the banquet.” Risa replied softly as she scratched Eri’s ears

Nothing is better than a good scratch behind the ear for her pup to put the pout away. Eri was already hugging her and had her head attached to her neck, purring softly.

“Hey~ Stop. What did I say about licking?” Risa pushes Eri face away from her neck gently.

“No licking. Especially in human form.” Eri pouts again. Risa just giggled at how well her pup could actually put up that sad puppy look.

“Come on. I’ll brush your hair. Your hair is like a living disaster now.”

“Ok! I’ll go get the brush!” brushing was one of her pup favorite too.

After getting Eri ready, Risa checked her clothes one last time from head to toe in the full length mirror before she leaves the room with Eri close behind.

With her grandfather now, they were outside the grand hall, at the waiting room along with many other descendants of well-known elven and mage families from all over Esmerelda. Reito was too dressed in his formal hakama that much resembles Risa’s but just that his slash was gold in colour with a full blossom white lotus. They waited as each of them was one by one announced into the grand hall by Aya.

“Reito Niigaki, 27th Generation of the Niigaki family, Commander of Kumudini. Risa Niigaki, 28th Generation of the Niigaki family.” As Aya made the announcement, Risa and her grandfather entered the grand hall with much pride and grace. Following closely behind them was Eri.

Finally she was able to set her eyes on the famous raven elf linage. Yes, she had seen many elves but none had raven hair like the two at the far end of the hall. Most elves have blonde hair and blue eyes and even half elven like her, still inherits some of the lighter hair colour and her eyes are still in a considerable shade of blue.

But what really caught her attention was a particular pair of emerald eyes on her. The green almost resembles the leaves she had seen earlier this morning, beautifully covered in a thin layer of ice.

It was so clear and beautiful. She felt her heart tighten a little.

“Niigaki-san, welcome.” Yuko greeted them
“Your Majesty” Reito said as he bowed, Risa following wise.
“Your Highness” again he bowed but to the lady in front of Risa instead.

A few words were exchanged between the Queen and her grandfather, she cannot really make up what were saying as she was too drawn into the now staring game with the Princess which only ended when she heard questions directed to her. It was just some ceremonious question and remarks.

They were escorted towards their allocated table as more were being announced into the grand hall. Once seated, blue-eyes could not help but were immediately drawn back to the emerald eyes again.

When all the guests have been announced into the grand hall, the banquet began.
After a while, she noticed another pair of golden-eyes was staring at her. Or rather, more specifically at Eri who was behind her.
Throughout, both sapphire and emerald were taking small peeks at each other whenever possible while entertaining others with little chats.

“Finally…”
Risa sighed as she walked out to the royal garden alone. Her grandfather knew she hated it but it was for her own good. So she just followed her grandfather around, greeting the different people she needed to bridge connection with if she were to take over her grandfather.

Currently, Eri is now in her place. She had Eri changed into her and magically made a dummy Eri. She even cast an aura protection barrier to prevent her grandfather from noticing.

She settled down in an empty pavilion, closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to smoothen the unsettling feeling that she had ever since she entered the Ice Palace. The air in the garden was cooler and much sweeter. Taking in a couple more deep breaths, she was finally able to relax.

“You smells”

Chapter 4
Esmerelda’s Ice Princess

Risa turned her head toward the husky voice and once again she was drawn into that same pair of emerald.

“Hmm…Well…I did remember…taking a bath before I leave my room though” Risa replied, pausing a few times to sniff her clothes before finishing her sentence

“N..no…what I meant was… you’re different from others”

“Racist joke?” Risa pouted

“NO no no… Ok… this alluring scent…around you……” Risa waited patiently but not yet losing the pout, which~ was really hard to keep up at this point of time. The other just had the most incredibly cute frown, trying to get the rest of the sentence out seriously even though it was obvious that Risa was just teasing.

“Which is…naturally occurring but it’s not supposedly natural…It’s like…it emits out from you and it’s in your aura as well” Complicated, isn’t it? But due to the fact that Risa knew what the girl was referring about, hence she was still able to make out what she is trying to say.

“Can’t I just smell nice?” Risa doubled up on her pout

“Fine…your aura is special. Does that sound better?” the raven girl sighed and crossed her arms.

“Much better” Risa smirked as she noticed the cute pointed ears peeking out of the girl’s raven hair were turning redder. Even though she was half elven, she did not have the trademark pointed ears.

Once again, Risa realized just how reckless she had been again. For she knew this raven beauty that was leaning against the pine tree not far away, had a reputation of being the Ice Princess. Not just because she lives in the Ice Palace but is always as cold as an ice to anyone.

Moreover, the power that is radiating around her is just so imposing that it could easily make one trembles uncontrollably in her presence, but yet, highly respectable. Of course, Risa she herself is not just a random somebody. If not, how would she be able to withstand the overwhelming surge of invisible stress, which was not only amplified by a number of times but too, constantly pressurizing on her small body due to the Princess’s full attention on her during their staring games.

Although with her offensive powers contained to the minimal by the Aranrhod, Risa was sure if things got ugly, the girl will still definitely not get away unharmed… but… wouldn’t it be a waste to flaw something like this? Beautiful things have to be treated with extra care. Don’t you think so?

“Please pardon me for my rudeness, your Hig…”

“Ai”

Risa could not help but grinned as she moved into the pavilion, sitting across her.

“I believe this seat is not taken”

“Ai-chan can sit wherever she wants. It’s her palace” Ai just snorted at the comment and remained silent.

After several long minutes of yet another round of silent staring game, Risa finally decided to break the ice.

“What is Ai-chan looking at?”

“Your aura”

“What about it?”

“I don’t know. Aura doesn’t usually look cloudy too.” Ai frowned as she replied.

“Is it raining?” Ai frowned even more choosing to ignore the cheeky girl

With that, round three was commenced

Risa herself was checking out the Princess’s aura for a second. Ai’s aura was of a stunning pure white unlike hers which was red and like Ai had mentioned, a little shady as well. But she had returned to just observing the girl instead. The girl was just much more interesting.

Speaking of the devil, it started to drizzle a little.

“Have Ai-chan found her answers?” The only answer Risa got was a shake of head.

Even though Risa was really enjoying the attention but…something is amiss.

Ai was looking at her aura not HER.

With that, she stood up and walked towards the raven girl. Ai just watched her as she moved closer to her.

“Hmm… maybe Ai-chan should take a closer look then” Risa whispered in a husky voice as she bends down and placed her hands at either side of Ai on the bench, trapping her.

Slowly, the predator inched closer and closer.

Being caught off guard, the prey was so stunned that she remained motionless, unable to react. When she finally registered what had happened, her trapper was so close that she had almost caught her…on the lip.

On instincts, she started to retreat but the predator just presses on and continues to close in further.

Eventually, the prey got into a dead end.

The back of Ai’s head had come in contact with a wooden pillar. That was the further she could go but the girl in front of her just kept on closing in.

As the beautiful sapphire got closer, Ai noticed that there was this playful purplish glow in it and something else that Ai could not really figured out, but nevertheless, gorgeous.

Ai was forced to turn her face to the side, hoping to put more distance between her and the brunette girl. She closed her eyes, hoping…she didn’t know what she was hoping for actually. Her heart was beating so fast that she knew her face must have been a few shades darker.

Risa on the other hand was finding all this pretty amazing. How twisted she can be sometime, enjoying the different kind of reactions she was getting from the cornered but not exactly helpless girl. Ai could have gotten away from her easily… if she wants to.

Currently, Ai had a side of her face turned to her. Her eyes… squeezed shut, cheeks… flushed… and lastly, Risa grinned unbelievably at how cute the overly red pointed ear was.

Ai gasped and immediately brought her hand up to cover her ear when she felt a stream of hot air being blown into it.

Risa could not help but giggled at how cute Ai looks now. Hand over ear, eyes widely opened and breathing irregularly. She giggled even louder when the still blushing Ai turned to glare at her.

“Ai-chan is too cute”

“I’M N…” Risa cut her off with a finger on her lip before moving back just enough to get back into standing position.

It was then, she realized the girl had stopped her from embarrassing herself further, especially in front of others.

As the two figures approached, Ai realized it was her guards.
“Your Highness, Her Majesty requires you back at the banquet.”
“I be there as soon as I finish my conversation with Niigaki-San”

The guards left and as Ai was about to turn her head back to Risa to finish the sentence...

“I…”Again, she was interrupted. But this time, by a hot whisper to her ear.

“It’s Risa, Love.”

“Had a good evening, Ai-chan” the brunette said nonchalantly, as she walks out of the pavilion and into the rain.

But even before the raindrops could fall on her, they turned into Sakura petals, creating a breath-taking illusion of raining petals.

Risa decided to just return back to her quarter so she would not have to deal with a near eruption princess. All along way, Risa had a goofy smile on her face.
