Dug up more info on the show...
The 1st run of Theatrical company [Senior Graffiti]'s "Songs theater of the Showa era" was performed on May 23 - 29, 2006 with Inaba Atsuko, Shibata Ayumi and Maeda Yuki.
Inaba Atsuko, Kaori Iida and Nono did the 2nd run with a different theme on Sept. 2 - 10, 2006.
Yasuda Kei and Nono are doing the current 3rd run. Maki will be doing the 4th in April.
1st and 2nd runs were released on FC DVDs, I just watched the 1st one (I don't have the 2nd one). Except for Maki's 4th upcoming show, all other shows were performed at Shinjuku Space 107 theater, the stage looks small from the DVD and audiences are really close to the stage, the back of their heads can be seen from the DVD.
So what is it about....
The show is about people who work at a nightclub (songs theater), both on and off stage. Shibata and Yuki were 2 of the many performers at the club, Shibata sang a solo song and a duet with Yuki (not their own songs) during the club's showtime and also acted a backstage scene, Atsuko is a staff at the club. There are other performers (actors, actresses, singers, magician, comedians). My Japanese is terrible so I don't understand the entire story but seems like the story started with an ex-performer's visit to the club and that brought back all the memories from the past, the show ran back and forth between current time and the past (we get to see an older Ayumi
).
In this 1st run,
Ishihara Junko was the leading actress. Shibata, Atsuko and Yuki were supporting acts while Yuki had much less on stage time than the other two with just half a song and a backstage scene.
I think the show uses the same formula with different themes, club performers are different in each run but I sure hope they put Maki as the lead actress, not just a small performer at the club.
