I never saw the second half, but the first one was far from a snore fest, compared to France-Romania.

Italy-Holland was an awesome match. Regarding that first goal, they were debating on it in our studio segments... there was one Italian player below the goalie, outside the field, that the goalie himself "knocked out" and in that case, the goalie would be considered the "lowest player" and so there wasn't an offside.
Only if the player left the game himself to set Van Nistelrooy offside ( and got a yellow card for that ) so I think there was offside ( even Van Nistelrooy checked the referee just after the goal because he was surprised )... dunno.

Arsenal should have grabbed him when valencia was in trouble last season.

^ About time. Tabloids kept projecting every big name manager under the sun for weeks now, you could sense a lot of it was pure conjecture.

What a crazy match the Turkey v Switzerland match was. Pitch was so flooded the ball stopped halfway through the shortest of passes.

^ Surely the favourites now. Beating both recent World Cup finalists quite comfortably in each could do that I think. Now this is the best match of the tournament lol The upcoming France v Italy match should be good, if only because the stakes are so high for both clubs.

Sad to see France go down like that. Makes you wonder if that penalty kick would've made a difference.

Anyway, Holland are on fucking fire! All I could do was laugh every time they scored. Epic.

I laughed when Robben scored the 3-1 just a minute after Henry scored  that was the best moment in the game.

Turkey - Switzerland was fun too, because of the soaked field like Tuffty mentioned.

Anyway, I hope France does well against Italy. Should be a great match with a lot at stake.

can't believe we've lost xD

some regrets about the penalty ...

Anyway, Holland is the 1st team to scored 4 times against France in 26 years,
stalkers are awesome but honestly the defenders are quite average :/
congrats to Holland and see you in Semi-Final ( except if you want to eliminate Italy & France and let Roumania win :s )

fuck, now we have to beat Italy .....

The penalty claim is a bit harsh in my eyes. Henry hit the ball at such pace it gave the defender very little time to react and his arms weren't even in front of his body anyway.

On to the lattest transfer gossip and with Scolari as the new Chelsea manager, he's been apparently been given a blank cheque, i.e. he can go for who he wants and Abrahmovich will give him the necessary funds. So if the papers are to be believed, he'll buy Kaka (hah!), Messi, Villa, Torres, Ribery, Benzema, Quaresma, Lahm, Ronaldinho and even Ronaldo (     good luck with that). So yeh, virtually every big name player under the sun. When will Abrahmovich learn that if your put together a club full of stars, it doesn't necessarily make a great team. For Villa alone the price tag has been inflated to £30 mil.

Elsewhere, still no conclusion to Ronaldo-gate, Aston Villa still won't yield and sell Barry to Liverpool (personally think Barry should stay where he is) and Veloso, Ramos and Berbatov are the latest in line for Man Utd.

I missed it. My friends insisted we watched the Netherlands  and their team of B-choice players.

Yeah it was pretty brutal... Sweden got pretty much dominated, and I think the Russians wasted a ton of goals on greed alone. Will be interesting to see if the Russkis can put up a fight against Holland.

So the quarterfinals will be:

Portugal - Germany
Croatia - Turkey
Netherlands - Russia
Spain - Italy

I see the first team of each matchup (the group winners) advancing... just based on what I've seen.

Sweden were too light upfront with just 2 big names.

^ Having the average age of the squad being around 31/32 probably didn't help. Felt sorry for Larsson though, the legend.

So Torres, Villa and Kaka have all turned Chelsea down. But this is what annoys me. Why is it that these players can say they're happy at the club and will stay and the pursuing club goes 'oh all right then, sorry for the hassle'. But Real constantly pursue Ronaldo despite making claims throughout the season that he's happy at United?
