Title: What is the best way to scan?
Post by: auroragb on September 04, 2007, 09:19:35 PM
Hi,

I'm looking for advice on the best way to scan official photos.  What is the best rez for balancing speed, size, and archival quality scans?  What color depth? Other settings? I mean, we're not scanning film negatives, so scanning at 4800x4800dpi sounds a bit absurd, no?  Or should I scan at max and do post processing?  If so, what post processing and what tools?

All depends on your scanner, but to be honest sometimes the best option is to just use the scanning wizzard that comes with the scanner and choose photo mode. Otherwise through trial of different settings you can usually find what looks best for your scanner and that's really all there is to it.
A good idea is to clean the scanner before scanning each photo cause dust is really time consuming to clean off later.
