Title: The "post cool stuff that you want" thread
Post by: ebc on August 23, 2006, 09:32:27 AM
That's right, post anything cool that you found and might want and talk about it in this thread.

I found this cool micro pc the other day that I thought was impressive cause it has 512mb of ram and a 30gig harddrive.

Although after seeing the price tag I thought I could probably live without it no problem. :D

i've been wanting these for a while.

Hasselblad 905SWC, USD$6600
(http://www.hasselblad.se/Archive/images/products/Cameras/camera_905swc.jpg) (http://www.hasselblad.se/general/SectionToItem.asp?secId=614)

with a CF-39 (39megapixel digital back), USD$29,995
(http://www.hasselblad.se/Archive/images/products/Digital_backs/back_cf_39.jpg) (http://www.hasselblad.se/products/level3.asp?secId=1132&itemId=3842)

and then Sun Fire x4500 (aka Thumper, 24TB ZFS storage system), USD$60,000
(http://www.sun.com/images/k3/k3_sunfirex4500_4.jpg) (http://www.sun.com/servers/x64/x4500/)

more to come as i think of them :D

-edit-
a little spiel: for the photography stuff, i'm actually surprised H!P doesn't use medium format cameras for their PBs. in all the making of dvds (where i can catch a glimpse of the camera), it's always a tethered Canon EOS-1D/s. not that EOS's are bad cameras (i have one, they're quite good), but PBs could be so much better if shot with medium format. certainly for concerts and candids (or any other on-location shots) a mainstream SLR is a better option, but for studio shots there's simply no comparison to having a 39-megapixel 384MB 48-bit RAW image... and to be honest, USD$30k isn't all that much if you consider the amount of revenue H!P garners, more so if you consider that the EOS-1Ds Mark II costs $8000 alone (tack on another ~$2000-$5000 for studio lenses)

/me wants to work as a H!P photographer

I have seen a 'black keyboard' version of that also, with EDGE included, and there is a version with 16GB flash memory instead of a HD :)

But I think a 5" screen is to small a step up for me, I have a HPx4700 with 4" already, I am going for the UMPC's now...

as long as i'm in school, i'm not paying for electricity consumption! XD well i am technically but it's all flat-rate, included in the tuition. and when i graduate, i'll just rent a coloc :D

nice choice with the asus R2H btw, it's the only UMPC that caught my eye. but atm, i'm never more than 1hr without my ipaq, never more than 24hr without my laptop, and never more than 1wk without my desktop. so a UMPC wouldn't really have a niche. but, if i get back into photography (ie: if i can fund it) i may get a UMPC, so i can have a portable tether.

hey, when you pay $60k for one of those you can at least afford a few extra grand added to your electricity bill. Better yet, you could probably buy your own wind turbine and solar panels. So ecomoni will love you.

Actually there is a really good alternative to the Sunfire (although it's not available yet) but it only uses 80W at peak. Check this out

The Glass Goose (http://www.glassgoose.com) amphibious seaplane.  I'd paint it red and call it the "Porco Rosso":

Only $27,000 - $32,500.00 for the home-build kit.  Lots of cars cost more than that.  Max speed 160 MPH, max range 1,200 miles, min takeoff distance in both land and water just 700 feet.

i guess ill list some realistic things for me XD

the things i want most at the moment would be computer upgrades. just bought a 320gig hard drive last week so that's checked. next is maybe a gig of RAM and a decent sound card (got new 5.1 speakers last week as well =P)

thinking about the Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic card.. im stuck with onboard sound at the moment. never had a sound card before so im sure im missing out

also considering a new tower (and get rid of this emachines tower XD)

Black Thermaltake Armor

I've been drooling over the case for some time now: 10 external 5.25" drive bays, 2 external 3.5" drive bays, 6 internal 3.5" drive bays, and too much ventilation.  Combine that with 3 5SA Addonics SATA Disk Arrays:

and you can have a total of (3x5)+1+2+6=24 hard drives on your system. :nosebleed:  At 750MB each, that's up to 18TB of data on that tower.....  Makes all other storage solutions seem like childs play.

They're basically the new model HD camcorder that use a new container format called AVCHD which is just H.264 with ac3 audio encapsulated differently and the files save as mpeg2-ts files. There's a previous DVD model but this one is a 30gig hdd model. It's meant to hold up to 11hours of HD video.

Download this preview clip and try play it back bitches http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/docs/20060920/ezxp.m2ts
:D

I'll give anyone a cookie who can play it back smoothly AND with sound.
Sexy sexy sexy HD
Still photo's taken with the camera are really nice also.

Received an application for this in the mail tonight.
(http://credit.orix.co.jp/yodobashivip/images/img002.jpg) (http://credit.orix.co.jp/yodobashivip/index.htm?id=7L40000000&999934BN000031=PID)
Yodobashi Camera (http://www.yodobashi.com/enjoy/more/categorylist/38974453.html) VIP Loan Card (one of the biggest electrical chains in Japan)
The card goes up to 3,000,000yen.

Man, I could have so much fun with that, if I wasn't smart enough to tear the forms into teenie weenie pieces straight away.

And while the card is tempting, it still falls way short of the 5.6million yen needed for the latest 103inch Panasonic TV (http://panasonic.jp/viera/products/pz600/full.html).

Right now I'm using my gaming laptop as a media center after finding out that I can connect via VGA to my new 27in HDTV LCD TV (also the fact that I killed both of the laptop's batteries so it isn't really mobile ATM). Although the picture looks great when watching H!M eps, I'm thinking it would be better if I could connect via HDMI/DVI and use the X100's power towards video playback.

the optimus is on it's way. art lebedev is just slow because it's a small firm (with very little industrial manufacturing contacts), and they've been in prototype stage for a while trying to find the best combination of hardware fabrication and OLED type/quality. last word is that they will release a b&w version in 2007, and color later on.

personally i don't see any reason to get anything more than b&w. your keyboard is already only two-toned, and for me i would only ever be displaying character glyphs, not icons.

I'm seriously thinking about buying a japanese Xbox 360 just to be able to play this game... :sweatdrop:

Imagine... you are a producer in charge of 11 young idols, and you have to teach them how to sing and dance, choose the songs that suits each of them best, help them memorize theirs lines, choose their clothes for live performances...

The perfect Tsunku simulator !!! :ONwriggly:

Watch some footage preview from Tokyo game Show 2006 RIGHT HERE (http://www.infectiousvideos.com/index.php?p=showvid&sid=3272&a=playvid&r=IDOLM@STER_-_XBOX_360_Preview),  and also HERE! (http://www.gametrailers.com/umwatcher.php?id=20311)

It's not that I wouldnt like such a nice Keyboard, and even with
Color it would be much better. But as you said, the lack of Experience
is the troublesome thing.

They should cooperate with Logitech or Cherry to get together
a fine piece of Hardware in a decent time.

Just my 2 Cents.

Salivating over the prospect up upgrading to this:

ThinkPad R60
 - Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7200 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB)
 - 15" SXGA+ TFT
 - ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128MB
 - 2GB SDRAM
 - 160GB internal HDD
 - 60GB HDD in a Bay Adapter
 - DVD Recordable 8x
 - 9 cell Li-Ion Battery

Should be able to get it for $1,730.

If only I could find some sucker to buy my R52 at an inflated price....

I haven't wanted anything for awhile but recently I've been looking at building a NAS, however one crucial part of my NAS would be a sata raid controller, a good one. In Australia there is not that many places to source particular products like the US. So my options were either a cheap cheap raid sata controller with optional raid, or the next one up being adaptec or intel would cost $500 T_T

But then I stumbled across one of these http://www.intel.com/design/servers/storage/ss4000-E/
:p

Specs are particularly good I think, especially it's 2 gigabit network ports. It is definately a tool built for the job and it's price tag is not that much compared to if I were to buy a seperate sata raid card and put it into a dedicated pc.

Add to it, 4x 500gig WD RE hdd's and I think it'd be reliable storage to last me at least next year.

also i would love to buy:
Nintendo Wii
Nintendo DS
Playstation 3
Sony PSP
a new mp3 player.....maybe.....

yes, that is impressive. My wants are a little more modest. All I'm looking for is a video capture card that takes component  YCbCr as input, with appropriate software to display the source as window on my PC.

Any ideas people?

SO903iTV (http://www.nttdocomo.co.jp/english/product/foma/903i/so903itv/index.html)

I quite like the BRAVIA, but I don't watch Japanese telly now, and sure as hell won't watch it on my phone.
So, I'm thinking I'll get the P904i...

Yea, that's the one. Do you think I'd still be able to get it now that they removed it from their website? If everything works out, I'll be going to Japan in October and I'll stay long enough that it makes sense to have a phone. Some shops should still have it, I think/hope.

The colors are ugly but I like how it doesn't look like 99% of the other phones. And it's supposed to be tough and that's good. If I can't get that one I seriously don't know which one I should buy or even which service is best/cheapest.  :?

If I had da money...a Nokia N82 (the white one on the right). I'm not crazy about the colour (honestly I'd rather have it in black like the N81), however I'd still prefer the N82 since I'm not that big of a fan of sliders.

The slider form factor of the n81 seems to be for mp3 player use. It's sort of the current trend when it comes to "music phones".

I like the color of the n82 better than the black actually. It makes it look less plain

I don't have SanDisk 8 GB, but I do have Seagate 6GB to carry around, and well if I have bigger file size, the 60 GB of WD works just fine. It fits my pants pocket, which I'm eternally grateful of.  :P

Now, on to the cool stuff that I want if I have the money: a laptop! Still thinking about the features ( I  over intel dual core extreme atm) and whether it's gonna be PC or a Mac. My desktop is about 5 years old, it's really time to retire it.

and speaking of cellphone http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=us&lc=en&ver=4000&template=pip1&zone=pp&pid=10856 unlocked phones for $269.  :wriggly: *checking the wallet*

I dunno. I think you should save the few hundred dollars and just get the black macbook with 2gb of memory. or if you don't like the black, the 2.2GHz white one.

The extra features on the MacBookPro are really of little use unless you're working as an industry professional and need better graphics rendering and a slightly larger resolution for more workspace.

I guess if you have the money, you have the choice to buy one. I just think the regular macbook is a better investment for the student/user.

I know this isn't too specific, but I'm thinking about getting a smartphone so that I can have my PDA and cell phone together in a single device.  Since I already have a Palm OS PDA, I'm looking at Palm smartphones like the Treo and Centro.  There seem to be some good options, but I'd have to work out a suitable calling plan (and carrier), and decide how to deal with existing phone services should I get a smartphone.  My land line hums, sometimes very loudly, when it rains, and I'm having difficulty getting Verizon to fix it.  So the search for a smartphone came from the idea of possibly dropping the land line and switching to only cell phone use, with something that could also serve as my PDA to consolidate devices.

i've been seeing some nice japanese phones everywhere, on CMs, dramas, shows, etc.  and i've taken a liking to them, especially the very popular flip phone design.  compare to here in the US, their flip phone seem, simple yet nice and very kool looking, although seems big, but not yet it's flat and rectangular in shape. it's nice and long, simple on the outside, but really nice interior design.

in case u don't know what i'm talking about, check out some of Sony Ericsson Japan flip phones and compare it to US models.  i believe there are companies in japan that only produce phones like that in Japan and not international, to my disappointment.
just in case, i google some pics for u to see....

 Sony Ericsson W44S super-flip Bravia phone (http://mobilementalism.com/2006/11/18/pictures-of-new-sony-ericsson-w44s-super-flip-bravia-phone/)
 Sharp SH704 TV phone  (http://www.handcellphone.com/archives/new-sharp-sh704-tv-phone-that-comes-lcd-screen-equals-aquous-hi-definition-lcd-tv)
just check out the  Sony Erisson Japan  (http://www.sonyericsson.co.jp/) and Sharp Japan site  (http://www.sharp.co.jp/k-tai/) and
especially this  Sharp W61SH AQUOS phone for KDDI  (http://www.intomobile.com/2007/12/23/sharp-w61sh-aquos-phone-for-kddi.html)

Japan come out with the koolest technology and their designs really suits my taste, but too bad i live in the US and Japan doesn't have any plans of launching their coolest phones internationally or compatible with US...
While this news  "KDDI Busts Onto US MVNO Scene"  (http://www.intomobile.com/2007/04/09/kddi-busts-onto-us-mvno-scene-kddi-mobile-to-launch-in-april.html) interest me a little, but they are offering it for Sprint Nextel and not for T-mobile. plus it's like the hand-me-downs compared to the ones Japan have.  seems like those are several years old....
T-mobile use SIM card, so as Cingular and several other phone service providers in the US.  the fact is that i just recently bought a new Nokia N95 8GB smartphone unlocked and i'm not planning on switching service to one that doesn't allow me to use this great phone.
I'm actually looking for a japanese-style flip phone for my mother and she seems to like their design as well, that's why i want to find one for her that uses SIM card and unlocked for T-mobile.
I'm really hoping that Sony Erisson would release some of their Japan models into the US.  but meanwhile, i'm checking up on Sony Ericsson, Sharp, Samsung, Nokia, etc. for phones similar in japanese flip-phone style regularly...  That compatible for T-mobile use, i.e. SIM card, unlocked, English, etc.

EDIT:  i just discover this phone THAT'S ABOUT TO HIT JAPAN! (http://www.mobilewhack.com/822SH-thumb.jpg)   Sharp AQUOS 822SH  (http://www.mobilewhack.com/sharp-aquos-822sh-hits-japan/)

I believe only a few softbank phones are unlockable and able to be used by US providers, as long as it uses a sim card. Japan uses a completely different network, so sadly most phones won't work.

The best way to find out what works is to look for a Japanese run cell phone shop somewhere, but I wouldn't know if there are any in your area.

The bra is also equipped with pads designed to hold beverages so that the usage of cans and plastic bottles can be reduced, the company said.

Been looking for an mp3 player now as I think it's time for an upgrade. My old Sony is only 1GB, and it's a pain having to go through Sonicstage in order to put files on there. Besides, I'm missing out on tracks that I would like to put on there but can't. So I've been thinking of going for the Sony NWZS818 8GB video walkman:

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3476801/Sony-NWZA818B-8GB-Video-Walkman-MP3-Player/ProductReviews.html

The cheaper alternative is the NWZS618 model at £59.99 but as I understand it, the 818 comes with better quality headphones and it's within an acceptable price range for me. Besides, I much prefer the look of the 818 to the 618.

Think I should go for it?

^ Unless SONY packages there EX71's (or 75's) I would not consider the included ear plugs a selling point, just go with the specs of the player and add the other ear plugs (which btw will cost about eur 50 also :) )

I might be going for a new player also, this looks nice but I need more space... a 160GB iPod would fit but I don't want iTunes on my system.

What about Zune? I got a 80GB version and so far it's good. The problem I have is that some features are still un-useable in Canada so that killed the Zune

No Zune where I live, I have a 60GB Creative Zen (and a COWON Q5W 40GB) but its getting full, need MORE SPACE :)
(another reason not to buy a iPod is: it can't play WMV's, which is half of my collection)

I also do not like the idea of having to swap-out (micro)SD's, I like to search while the previous songs is still playing and then add them to the current play-list.

Edit: Looks like I'm going for a Archos 605 160GB:

I know jackshit when it comes to using SLRs but have thought about getting one.
The bulkiness was always a drawback and this new model by Panasonic is nice and compact.
However, I have 2 concerns.
One is that even though the camera itself is small, aren't most good quality lenses 1-2x the size of the camera?  So with a decent lens attached, the combination will still be a bulky summabitch.
2ndly, it seems this Lumix SLR uses the LCD for imaging.  My understanding was that with digital SLRs, one of the main benefits was that you use the viewfinder and can take shots any time you want with no bootup time.  With the DMC G1, it appears you have to wait for the camera to turn on b4 you can start shooting. (but maybe I'm wrong).
Still it's a camera i have to consider if I want to upgrade to an SLR so thanks for the 411.
Title: Re: The "post cool stuff that you want" thread
Post by: StreakInTheSky on September 15, 2008, 08:05:25 AM
I actually have very little experience with SLRs myself. But I love the quality and the ability to use large lenses as I've found it annoying when I see the perfect thing to take pic of, but my point & shoot just couldn't capture it like I wanted to.

I have done a bit of research and I'll try to answer a couple of your questions.

Anyway, the thing with the G1, it also uses smaller lenses too so you have to get lenses made for it(atleast until other companies start to adopt the micro four thirds standard) or you have the choice of getting a four thirds adapter which uses slightly smaller than standard lenses but a little bigger than the G1's. Of course it'll still be a whole lot bigger than your point & shoot, but that's the price you pay for quality.

I've never actually used a DSLR other than trying it at the store, but I thought you would still have to turn on the camera to take any pics. All I knew was that the advantage of the viewfinder was that it didn't use any power unlike an LCD and you saw exactly of what you're taking a picture of. One of my concerns about this camera was the LCD viewfinder, but it seems to be using some special kind of LCD with better picture quality than normal LCDs. As for bootup, DSLRs boot up in like a second or less so I don't think there's much to worry about there other than the slight power use.

Here's a sort of review of a pre-production model with tons of info on it (probably just about everything you'd want to know) http://www.dpreview.com/Previews/PanasonicG1/

^ The Pre has it, Windows Mobile will have it soon Nokia is working on it, Android phones are getting it.

The 'store advantage' of the iPhone (which I do not really see actually as such a big advantage) will be short lived.

The big advantage of the iPhone is that it is sold *including* a data subscription.

The whole "Apple Store" thing does nothing for me at all..

At least with most Japanese phones (maybe other countries too, I have no idea), they come with IC chips that can be used to buy goods in actual shops..
Like a debit card, but tacked onto your phone bill..

Train tickets, grocery shopping, etc.. Hell, some drink vending machines come with scanners just for that..

For some reason that does not yet take hold in the western world, almost no phones are sold with that option build-in.
We do have 'PIN' e.g. debit-cards you swipe (magnetic strip, smart-chip coming up next) here in Europe as the main electronic payment method.
I think America likes credit cards more...
We dabble in RFID type cards for public transportation, but they are way to easy to break so they are not used anywhere else yet.

No idea why they are not shopping in Japan for this though, they seem to want to re-invent the wheel.

Prestige Edition for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, worth a whopping $170 CDN.
Debating whether I should get it...

You probably already know this, but there's a Hardened Edition as well which basically has the same features as the Prestige edition (steel case, artbook, COD1 download) minus the goggles. Really, it all depends on whether or not you want the goggles, which supposedly are the real deal.

As for me:

UMC 21" HD Ready LCD TV which can also act as a PC Monitor. I could go down right now and get it for £100 which seems like a bargain to me. Just need to read up on it and see if it's recommended.

ya I know about the Hardened Edition. And I won't mind spending the extra getting the goggles. But I read people wrote that it is not night vision but instead just use multiples of infrared to act as
"night vision"... what do you guys / gals think?

Looks pretty cool if they are nightvision - not that I'd actually be able to find a use for them.

That would mean they put some IR LED's into the thing which gives 'invisible to the naked eye' light, which is then received/displayed? Thats like those small nightime security camera's.

Its not the same as the 'real deal', and might actually be visible because the LED's after some time do give some light in the visible spectrum if I am correct (e.g. glow a bit)

umm... icic... anyhow I put down $5 to pre-order the package, wait until more review comes up before deciding if I want to buy it.

Now Seriously looking for a New Sony Ericsson Satio (http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/mobilephones/overview/satio#view=specifications) smartphone, unlocked for T-Mobile USA.
Now I find a site, www.myworldphone.com (http://www.myworldphone.com), and it cost $644.00.  but I don't wanna deal with them cuz of a bad previous experience.

Saw a couple on ebay.com around $570 mark.  It marked NEW and does have positive feedback, but I dunno if it's safe or not...

Any other website people can think of?

Actually what i really want is a US-unlocked Japanese phone, since I saw many design of japanese phones and they are all more better than anyone in America.

^ wow Man. :thumbup :w00t:
edit: just heard from BF-3 review, and yes it can as Tremolo and even as CE-5 sound but of course TR-2 & CE-5 are more specific/clean without flanging sound.
those Metal Zone is awesome too, i love it,  although need for NS-2 to reduce it's natural interference noise, wondering if OD-20 could as MT-2.  :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...from a money and space perspective I'm glad the BF3 has those features  XD. I just got the BF3 a month ago, but I've been wanting it for about ten years  it sounds epic in combination with the MT2.
...Even though they can do some similar stuff, they can be sued together as well to get some really nice clean sounds  :thumbup
The noise of the MT2 isn't that bad if you fiddle with the settings a bit. It's not noisier than the average overdrive channel on an amp.
:thumbsup
well, just found something interesting that's fun enough to be analog/stompboxes fan in "guitar world". :)

anwy, forgot and if im not mistake, i've ever seen someone using these "chain":
to amp/something <..?..< RV-5 < DD-6 <RV-5 <..?.. < ..?.. < BF-2 < MT-2 < ..?.. , (yes, without NS-2 or LS-2)
^ :O two RV-5. :huhuh

fyi i've had : (bought its used)
Korg AX30G
(http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3506/ax30g.th.jpg) (http://img62.imageshack.us/i/ax30g.jpg/)
my purpose bought it was just for knowing various sounds & to explore why it's not pricey than stompboxes, so i was rarely using it :P, personally i dont like it :nervous , love analog alike :D and let that stuff had been borrowed, then currently it error/broken. sigh

Zoom 5000
(http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/6306/z5kb.th.jpg) (http://img25.imageshack.us/i/z5kb.jpg/)
:thumbup a hybrid distortion-"tank", using analog circuit plus six (digital) distortion type, it has noise reduction/ZNR knob.

and RV-3, i (careless) forget where it's been :banghead: , it's digital but fantastic yet, got sounds as i want at affordable price if compared it to DD-x plus RV-5, i simply say the Digital Reverb/Delay is similiar (but not likely, indeed) to BF-3, as "Flanger/Tremolo". XD
 hard to find in my town for buying new one.

So, although im just amateur  based on i look at Your's and for wanted new various sounds, :nervous im still have to dream for having "chain" like these:
to amp < RV-5 < DD-7 < BF-3 < PW-10 < PS-5 < ML-2 < SD-1 < TU-15 < from guitar.

A keyboard that doesn't hurt my wrists if I'm typing for more than 5 minutes, has keys big enough that my fingers hit only one of them at a time, has a big enough space-bar that I don't need to adjust my hands to hit it with either thumb regardless of what key I pressed last, and doesn't have 6 years of accumulated snack filth, shed hair, and spilled drink.

Is that so much to ask? (yes... if electronics retailers are to be believed about what keyboards are out there...)

Oh, I also want the Megurine Luka Vocaloid software, but don't want to spend $150 on it, so that one's just MY bad.

FUCK NICE!! Sony digital 'nocs!

Quote from: Mashable
The binoculars are the “world’s first digital binoculars with HD video recording, zoom, autofocus and SteadyShot image stabilization,” according to the company’s announcement.

SteadyShot image stabilization is the the optical stabilization system that’s found in Sony Handycam camcorders and Cyber-shot cameras — it helps keep images clear and stable, even when viewing at high magnifications.

The binoculars come with a rechargeable battery pack that allows up to approximately three hours of 2D recording on a single charge. Also included with both models is a battery charger/adaptor, A/V connecting cable and USB cable for PC connection.

There are only slight differences between the two binocular models. While both the DEV-3 and DEV-5 feature 10x optical zooms, the DEV-5 can digitally zoom up to 20x. The biggest difference is the DEV-5′s built-in GPS receiver, which enables it to automatically geo-tag videos and photos. Lastly, the DEV-5 comes with a number of fancy accessories not included with the DEV-3, including a carrying case, neck strap, finder cap, a lens cover and large eye cups.

You really have to be an enthusiastic birdwatcher or sports fanatic to shell out for these puppies, though. The DEV-3 comes in at $1,400, and the DEV-5 will be priced at a whopping $2,000. We’re not convinced that a $600 price jump is justified for the addition of DEV-5′s GPS feature, advanced zooming and a few accessories.

Both binoculars will be available in November 2011 at Sony retail stores, the online Sony store and at authorized retailers.

Perfect for stalking celebs! XD

AWW YEAH...
http://trackballcontroller.com (http://trackballcontroller.com)
The precision of a mouse with the comfort of a gamepad...I'd love to see an official Microsoft release, or even a Logitech attempt at this kind of thing (though Logitech usually uses the Playstation-style layout for its gamepads and I prefer the 360 layout). I saw an officially-built trackball gamepad at Fry's called the Igugu Gamecore that looked really interesting, especially with its built-in mini-keyboard, but my research came up with less-than-impressive reviews of it.

Also: the future of touchscreens?

Using Senseg technology, makers of tablet computers, smart phones, and any touch interface device can deliver revolutionary user experiences with high fidelity tactile sensations.

I'm now in the market for this thing: ASUS Transformer Infinity with keyboard dock...

I've recently been wanting to get a tablet (need a portable computing solution more robust than my iPod Touch and crappy old Nokia phone), but have been having trouble justifying prices with available specs/apps and wondered if simply getting a normal laptop would be a better option...then I remembered that I can always just use some kind of remote desktop app to utilize my home PC's power while on the go, so ASUS tablet it is! Though it's still gonna be pricey to get exactly what I want ($600 for the 64GB version, and the keyboard dock is sold separately).

The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 looks tempting, though...that special pen would be very helpful for re-igniting my artistic spark. Plus I wanna see how those upcoming Windows 8 tablets turn out.

I have one of those in the mail J-Triumf. I'll post an extend comment/comparison on my LiveJournal next week when it arrives. I'm pretty psyched about it. :)

So in terms of stuff "I want" that I can't have any time soon:

31.5" 4K Monitor

150ppi, which is reasonable for a monitor

Another interesting ASUS product: seeing how I want a tablet now, and that I also happen to kinda need a new phone, this is a really tempting solution for both!
http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone2/ (http://www.asus.com/Mobile/PadFone2/)
ASUS PadFone 2 Demo Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjpACIJkpQo#ws)
Most reviews I've read are really high on the phone itself, and 60fps video seems like a really good feature to have. Unfortunately it's not officially available in the US, and would probably be really expensive for the whole phone/tablet combo if it were...plus there's no keyboard dock for the tablet.

^ read 20 hours about those quad-copters for a friend of mine. he was completely helpless.
"Can u get it to work?" he asked "of course i said."

well well well, thing got set up software-wise, then done gyro calibration. still all graphs looked ok. saved.
THEN: gyro z axis drift to vry high extend.

put is one the table, powered for 10 minutes and gyro zeroes again.

DA FUDGE

thing didn't fly nowhere. reason was chinese copy of flight controller unit purchased from ebay .... :smhid
malfunctions, malfunctions, malfunctions.

but now i know everything about these little quad-copters. awesome flight characteristics, you can trim the hell out of these, and if they fly do it like a charm!

language is german, but nowadays YT has these automitically generated subtitles. you can choose the translation in the players settings button, but it won't be perfect.
