[Movie] Storm Warriors (Pang Bros period epic)
« on: June 01, 2009, 08:29:49 AM »

The Storm Warriors (traditional Chinese: 風雲II; simplified Chinese: 风云II) is an upcoming 2009 Hong Kong martial arts-wuxia film produced and directed by the Pang Brothers. It is the second live-action film adaptation of screenwriter Ma Wing-Shing's manhua Fung Wan, following the 1998 film The Storm Riders. The Pangs have stated that the film is not a direct sequel to The Storm Riders, but more of a stand-alone film with a separate storyline. The Storm Warriors is also known by its English-language working title, The Storm Riders II, a title that was changed in order to avoid copyright disputes. Ekin Cheng and Aaron Kwok respectively reprise their roles as Wind and Cloud, who this time find themselves up against Lord Godless (Simon Yam), a ruthless Japanese warlord bent on invading China. For the film, the Pangs were inspired by Fung Wan's popular Japanese Invasion story arc The Death Battle. The Storm Warriors was shot primarily in Bangkok, Thailand, and marks the first Chinese film to be shot in bluescreen and on custom-made sets. The film is expected to be released in Hong Kong on 17 December 2009.

Can't wait for this to come out. Unfortunately I won't be in HK when it comes out so I will have to wait for to be released on DVD or Blu-ray

Box office have already made a record of 2.25 million HKD on the first day. This film not only tops the first box office sale, it has become the top ticket sale for Chinese language film in 2009. People have been lining up to get ticket to see the movie, 521 shows were shown, breaking the record of the number of cinema screen in the history of Hong Kong Chinese language movie. The cinema operators are still thinking of how to accommodate more screen release for the next two days.

The box office success of "Storm Warrior II" makes Universal boss Lam Siu Ming a very happy man. He decided to treat the whole cast of "Storm Warrior Hero Banquet " next Tuesday. Aaron was very happy indeed, he is particularly proud that "Storm Warrior II" broke the cinema record. Ekin expressed that he has been busy doing the promotion for the film last two weeks. ^ Take of the Century! I guess you're comparing it to the first movie. I can't tell with what you wrote.

^ well i think i didn't watch the 1st movie, so it's hard to say that I'm comparing it to the 1st movie. But still, this ... thing still failed as a movie.

...well at least for me.

You watched it? Where you from? At least talk about the acting or special effects. Pang Bros. are world reknown. Discuss. Debate. Go ahead. :)

Malaysia ... it's been out here for quite awhile ...

lol was afraid to spoil it for those who havent watched it, so yeah.

Acting was ... normal, what you'd expect from ppl like Aaron and Ekin. What I didn't like about it was the dialogues. It was way too simple and too few. I didn't really thing the girls did a great job too. (Except for that dying part >.>)

And well as a whole, I just didn't like the way they brought out the whole story. It had too much fighting scenes and it kinda made the plot feel really short. And as great and awesome the fighting scenes are, I wasn't really impressed of it. This was the first time I was looking around the cinema coz of the boredness on the screen >.>

Comment: The movie starts with fight. No introduction, not much story line, just fighting scene. Some scenes are unneeded. No doubt, CGI effects are good, but for some scene, it is too much. The existance of the 2 girl are as vases only, no efffect on the story.
