Out of curiosity, to all readers/writers here, what was your first contact with fanfiction in general? Like, what fandom you started out with.

For writers, assuming those whose first fanfics are not H!P, where did you start out and what were you first writing? XD

And to everyone in general, what are your expectations of fanfiction aside from pairings? What do you like to see (other than fanservice XD) and any pet peeves about writing? XD

-trying to start up conversation- Lol. XD

My first contact with fanfics was back in high school, when not everyone had internet and when porn was in the form of VHS tapes. One of my classmates gave me a printout of a Sailor Venus story, ecchi of course. Naivete got the bast of me and I thought that story was canon, thinking that it was all part of the main story. Reading about my favorite senshi in that kind of scenario gave a 'no, not her!', 'lies!!!','she can't be doing this,oh shi...she did it...', 'awesome, there should be a sequel!', feeling

I started writing YuYu Hakusho fanfics 8-9 years ago. Pretty much the same genre when I started writing H!P fics *cough*ecchi*cough* I can remember that the fics I wrote that time were made in just an hour. XD

After reading some of the fics, the perv ones first, of course(yes, I'm honest) when I was new in JPH!P, I was itching to write my own. I thought that I'd be fulfilled after completing one, but there was a feeling that I had to write more. And here I am, still writing, even when I'm supposed to be doing some office work.(stopped writing perv fics though)

I didn't know that H!P would have this kind of effect on me. There are times when certain scenes/dialogues in my fic or from the fics I've read keep repeating in my head even in my sleep. Maybe it's the challenge of writing the girls the way I see them, they way people know them and the way I want them to be in my fic. Or maybe it's my mind telling me to stop being lazy and go write something.

For expectations. I haven't had the chance to read some of the newer fics but I'd like to see more fics like OCG, Normal, All Aboard, and recently, slasha's Girls of Platoon C. Fics that put the girls into a different kind of environment, fics that take them out of their idol-y life. :P

ummm....hmmm

ok

first fanfics I read were Buffy the vampire slayer ones..... I got directed to them from a buffy chat room when I was like.....14? Maybe....probly younger. Anywayz I went there and felt strange new happy and gross feelings that I could not explain.. I found myself asking questions such as "Why is Giles taking off his pants?" and "Why is Spike bending over?" XD

The first fanfic I wrote was posted in the jpopmusic forums and this was a few months ago..

I first wrote this ...well I don't wanna talk about it.. it might ruin it.. But I was inspired by too many things and after a while I found it hard to stay on target so I quit it after a few chapters... Mainly because what I imagined would've taken too much room and been too long.

Then I came here and posted my ass off in my lil thread.. Oneshots...twoshots.....beershots...mugshots.....
Then I found the perv thread :$ hehehe I posted like crazy there too..... I think I posted the most stories I ever made there. I dunno why but I prefer putting them there...mainly cause I know my friend wont read them there XD

buut I'm kinda bugged that no one really replies to them (except lolipopgirl usually and even she's too busy to read my stuff nowadays)

Now I'm busy trying to finish off my already started ones while trying to start other new-er ones and at the same time going to school which reminds me... oh shit! I forgot to fill that paper in! And talk to my mum abou college! And stuff! And I have to go to school soon so cya'z later :) bye bye

My first fandom was......the OC. Yeah, I know. Anyway, I wrote a couple fics but got bored with it. They were mostly like lovey fluff stuff. Nothing like my pervyness now. And I'm much happier with my writing and my fandom now.

The first fanfictions I read were Digimon XD but none of them were pervy because that would be odd considering I was like...10 or something haha
and then like I never really constantly read fanfictions
when I would come across books and movies or TV shows I REALLY liked I would look up fics and such
But really one of the first fics I actually wrote myself was H!P
The first two or three I completely scrapped and can't even remember where they are XD
OH WAIT!
I totally wrote a REALLY BAD Star Wars fan fiction like three years ago
I found it the other day and laughed at how hilariously bad the entire thing was....

my first fanfic fandom is Gundam Wing (as a reader)... i was 10 back then... and unlike sb3k, i was ALL PERV back then... I wrote Fushigi Yuugi fics when I was 12... ALL PERV too... never posted anywhere... i just let my friends read them off my black notebook...

i read fics sporadically in my highschool days (anime, comics, movies, jdorama)...

with H!P, I'm a bit squeamish about reading pervs... but i still read them... ... ... ... i don't know... i'm all lovey-dovey fluff with RFP......

I love H!P fandom of all fandoms...

^-- OMG A Fushigi Yuugi fan <333

Anywho xD My first few pieces of posted writing were original fiction (but now that I look at it, it was muy horrible xDDD) and then when I wrote some Fushigi Yuugi fiction when I was in the junior high. Then around 2004-2005, I dedicated myself to some Mahou Sensei Negima fanfiction and then more original stories and voila~ I found H!P and its femmeslash and started writing for that xDDDD But OCG the first was so horrible, it's badly written and badly plagerized, lmao xDDD. So I sought to fix that by writing my one-shots and OCG II which is mostly original save for the beginning xD;

Back then, I just wanted good stories and good plot twists, but right now, I'm more interested in character development more than anything. I want to see how a character interacts with others and sort of gauge their relationship with others and stuff like "Oh, she did that because she likes her!" or "wow, their chemistry is really smokin' " xDD

But yes, I will practically read anything nowadays as long as the writing style isn't so bad xD. I've had my misfortune of coming across fics that made me want to gouge my eyes out, but hey, it's not a perfect world~! ¦D

When I was in University, instead of studying during my breaks in between classes (like I should have :P) I'd often go to the computer lab and read Star Trek fanfics.  My fandom for Trek was/is on par with my fandom for H!P. :yep:  However, these guys that wrote these TrekFics, they were ultra-hardcore.  You know how there have been different "incarnations" of Star Trek on TV (i.e. The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space 9, etc.)?  Well, these guys each created their own, personal series (usually centered around "their own ship"). They had everything created from scratch: ship's crew, ship's missions, etc., etc. It was like having another Trek series, only it was written instead of televised. They'd even collaborate and have characters "guest star" in each other's series', do "joint stories" where both author's would write the same story, but from the POV of their own respective characters/crews, have characters die and then watch their replacements try to fit in, have technical specs for their ships, it went on and on.  A bunch of them got together and formed their own forum-type group where they'd shoot the shit and exchange Fics.

I soon found myself following a lot of their stories (not that different from what I've done to myself here :P), though I never wrote any myself. Come to think of it, I haven't been back there in a few years after "real life" started to take up more and more of my (and their) time and the frequency of new postings lessened.

I wrote my fics like I was typing out the transcript to an IM conversation
Same with me. XD This was back in... uh, I think 2001/2002 when I was writing Harry Potter fanfics. I eventually learned to write them in paragraphs and whatnot. I haven't written since then, though, and don't plan to anytime soon. :P I don't like writing anymore, but I still like reading fanfics.

At first I absolutely refused to read any fanfics that involved real celebrities, just because it seemed strange to include a real person in a fanfic (still do, kinda. XD). I decided to check out the fanfics at JPH!P just to see what they were like and came across Our Cursed Gift (I thought the title was neat, so I decided to read it) and I've liked H!P fanfics ever sense.

I found about fics by accident, while looking for info about a movie. Then I came across an old Xena fanfic site, and clicked on the first link provided there. And then... Oh, my virgin eyes! XD

My face adopted this strange red hue, which was previously unknown to me. The room suddenly turned hot, and I broke into a sweat. But, did I stop reading? Hell no!  :muffin:

My English vocabulary improved so much after that tiny fic, mostly because I had to use a dictionary to get some words. Still, I understood enough to know it wasn't the innocent kind...  A month later, I'd read hundreds of one-shots and was raiding all kinds of fanfic sites. Also, I had to research on the show, because I didn't even know who they were. *palmfaces*

And, a couple of years later, I decided it was time for me to start writing. *grins* However, I was a coward and picked Buffy rather than Xena. I wallowed there for a couple of years or so, then left when it stopped being funny.  :-\

After that, I lurked for three years. Then got tempted by the evilness of Real People Fiction, and came back with some strange, angsty fics which gained me a few enemies. Also, things turned ugly when I became a moderator in a forum. *snickers* And then one fine day, I got sick of the same nonsense arguments over and over again, so I just quit and stopped writing altogether.  :sweatdrop:

But I became a beta reader instead, and started to be more flexible and tolerant about things. Most of my pet peeves disappeared, and I became the loving reader I am now. (Notice the sarcasm...) Sometimes I get pissy over random, insignificant details, but only those who read my LJ get to know about that.

@wings4dreams: I know its been said by many already but I wanted to let you know that as sad as it is, I know what it's like to be hella busy, so we can certainly wait, especially if there is a glimmer of hope that we can catch on to... All good things come with time and that includes an update from you... and one for ALl Aboard too ;)

How the fanfic thing all started for me... I think it would have been maybe 5 yrs ago that I got completely immersed in Buffy fanfic (Willow/Tara stuff seeing the forum I was on was completely exclusive to those two) and it was probably about 50/50 perv/non-perv... There was some crazy kinky stuff going on... so femslash was where it all started  I wrote like a paragraph of a fic of those two once, but was still lazy to do anymore... it was a good paragraph though XD

Then came something a little different... I was/am a massive tennis fan, I think it may have been a bigger fandom than H!P has been so far although H!P has almost completely replaced it now (which kinda caused a loss of boyfriend and some friends), I still get into it sometimes. Anyway, I found one person who did write fanfic of two of my fave players and although it wasn't smutty at all, it was always a big blob of fluffy goodness (Marat Safin & Daniela Hantuchova for anyone who knows about tennis)... It was really good to read and I never once thought of the fact that they were real people, which I guess kinda makes me evil in a way XD But because of that, when I got into H!P fanfic the fact the were real people I was ready about really didn't bother me, but since it was brought up here before, I do think/worry about it more now, lol.
I have dipped my toes into other random fandom fics like WonderBang, Twilight series and Harry Potter (unwillingly seeing I hate that) but never could get into them at all.

As for what I look for in a fic... basically I just wanna be able to feel it... Whether it makes me feel sad, happy, loved, scared, giddy, or even excited *cough* etc, I don't care as long as I can feel IT, the story! I do read some fics that don't make me feel like that, and enjoy them, but they just then aren't memorable... I know I REALLY like a fic when i re-read lines, paragraphs even, over and over again, just coz I am enjoying so much... some current writers make me do that every time I read something of their's, and others on occasion do... Really, as long as you do at least one thing really really well in ur writing (dialogue, detail, characterization etc) then I'm easy to please :)
