I'd jus to like to say thanks to all here. This thread still gives.

I've been looking for Enka for a long time, and this is one of the best sources. Appreciate it.

youngdoug san, Yes, I agree, this thread is a great place to learn more about some great music from the past.
The following clip features young Osamu Minagawa, who is the youngest performer (6 years old) to have a number one single on the weekly Oricon Chart with his 1969 song "Kuroneko no Tango" (Black Cat Tango) which was a cover of an Italian song "Volevo Un Gatto Nero". He appeared on television with Yoko Kon of Pinky & The Killers when the song was a big hit. The current show in the clip lets the two meet again, many years later. Yoko Kon is still hot, and Osamu Minagawa is still kawaii, after all those years. :deco:

Mori Masako & Iwasaki Hiromi on "Ii Tabi Yume Kibun"
« Reply #182 on: September 28, 2011, 10:45:17 AM »
My fave teevee show is a great travel program called "Ii Tabi Yume Kibun." A local (premium) cable channel airs it in Hawaii subtitled. One program featured Mori Masako and Iwasaki Hiromi, two giants of the 70s.  I clipped their segment and upped to YouKnowWhere:

Never knew Mori was so close to Misora Hibari.

Dick Mine (三根徳一 / Tokuichi Mine) was a singer of  Jazz/Hawaiian/kayokyoku starting in the 30's and recorded for the next 50 years. He passed away at 82 years old in 1991.

The oldies are so good. He's gone a good 20 years now, but still people want to hear his song.

The song "Dinah" was introduced in the musical "Kid Boots" by Eddie Cantor in 1923. Dick Mine translated the lyrics of Sam M. Lewis and Joe Young (music written by Harry Akst) and sang on this December 1934 release:

Mine san performing "Dinah", many years later in the mid 70's (he mentions that he will be turning 67 years old) The singing starts about 50 seconds into the upload.

Another great find of course. That cm mentioned the cd is good practice for karaoke, which raises a question for me. If anyone could make a top 20 oldies karaoke list what would be on it? I don't have the experience. But anyone know karaoke songs that just set the average old school j-lovers heart a flame, and gets everyone into the song?

Good question. Depends on your time frame, I suppose. Twenty years? Thirty years?

My forte is 1970s kayokyoku/J-pop so I've had good luck with "Yozora" by Itsuki Hiroshi, "Yoroshiku Aishuu" by Go Hiromi, "Bus Stop" by Taira Koji.  For the gals, "Ii Hi Tabidachi" by Yamaguchi Momoe remains a HUGE song at karaoke, along with the ubiquitous "Kawa no Nagare no You ni" by Misora Hibari.

Yes, that's the password I used.
I checked the site and you have to do a captcha first - typing the 2 random-messed-up words it gives you.  Then you type the password after you've done that.  Don't mistake the captcha for the password.
Sig gone. Tinypic is no more.

One of my best friends gushes on about Ishida Ayumi.

Yep he's got a point, you know...

I love Ishida Ayumi, but her songs seem hard to find.

By the way the oldies section at that site has a lot of stuff in it. If you are willing to wade thru it...

I know that site.  Did you manage to download recital?  I saw that post on the site the first day it was posted, and the links never worked right from the first day.

(By the way I didn't requote the url's because the site don't like people posting links, I think).

No, I do not have it in my records, so I must have had trouble downloading it myself. I feel bad for posting a link that no longer works...

Well are some links to make up for my blunder.

This Frank Nagai recording, from 1957, is amazing for it's clean sound. Truly the man's voice was like butter!   :twothumbs

The song is 夜霧の第二国道 / Yogiri no Dainikokudou  / [Night Fog on National Higway 2]
