Melon Kinen-bi is AWESOME
The most consistent group in H!P - not one graduation or member exit since their debut in 2000. They have some the most interesting characters. Led by Captain Charisma herself Hitomi "The Boss" Saito - they can't be stopped. "The Professor" Megumi Murata lends us her wit. Masae Ohtani changes her hair color more than Dennis Rodman - and she could probably kick your ass. And of course Ayumi Shibata - the cutie pie. Each one in themselves is a leader in the locker room - the veterans of H!P asserting their influence on future generations.

In terms of group hotness, Melon is only topped by Viyuden (how I wish Viyuden would top MKB...). They're also the only group to actively pursue sexiness in their PVs and dances, instead of hiding it behind cuteness or outfits. I cite the Nikutai pelvic thrusts as evidence.
Anyone who hasn't seen the Taiyou no Kajitsu is missing out on some serious :jerk: material.
Thanks for the video! It's nice to see megumi shorly after she was banged hard enough to knock her glasses off. :-)

I never really noticed her either before her glssses. She kind of just faded into the background(as much as that's possible with only four members in a group). But now she is definitely hot. Not hot in a "Saitou is hot" kind of way, because that's just crazy talk, but hot nonetheless.

Watched a bunch of older Utabans, ones where she never wore her glasses. And I barely noticed her, watched a few older H!Ms, more recent Utabans and noticed her alot more. Glasses go so good on her that I hope she never takes them off.

Well, there are 3 concert DVDs actually. They're all really good concerts though. The first one is high energy greatness since it's their first tour. The second has a really nice feel to it since it's a Christmas live. There are some really good performances. My favorite, though, is the third one, Just for the simple reason that there is a TON of tour footage. If you like watching the girls goof around during rehearsal, get this DVD. Plus, you get to see the craziness of an idol group performing at Chicken George (a famous rock live venue).

Thanks, Vigo. :) Looking at the setlists for the 1st and 3rd concert DVDs, I'm torn between these two. The tour footage sounds awesome but, if judging by the performances alone, which one would you suggest?

Well, the actual concert is about an hour and forty minutes on both the first and third dvd even though there are 60 extra some odd minutes of footage on the third DVD. It's been a while since I've seen the first concert (my friend owns that one, I own the other two) so I don't remember how the performances were all that well. I think a lot of them got tired towards the end, so there may have been more running around which I think made a couple of parts not so good vocally (but still great to watch).
The third DVD has no such problem and Melon sounds wonderfully for the whole thing. The solo and duet songs are fantastic. There's not a whole lot of bells and whistles during a Melon concert and what's listed on the DVD is what you get.
The MCs for the first and second DVD are pretty weird and they both have those weird movies where it becomes evident that Melon can't act. The third DVD's MCs are a little more normal with a (boring but short) poem for the first one (in both english and japanese), the second is Murata and Shibata doing stupid things to the olympics.
There are a couple songs that are sorely missed on the third DVD, such as Amai Anata no Aji, Skip, and ANNIVERSARY but I feel that the selection of Melon songs and the two covers are more than sufficient to make it a buyable DVD.
So...I guess I recommend the third one. It's a close call really, but the individual songs were a great way to showcase vocal talent and all the performances were stellar.
It's kind of funny how crowd surfing seems to crop up at a Melon concert. Not much, but it's there.
[And as a note, the concert DVD wasn't filmed at Chicken George (it's too crowded to shoot a proper idol concert) but Zepp Tokyo. You see some of the live house in the Natsu tour medley and you see it during the extras.]

I hope it isn't a major faux pas to post this on a board that has its own subtitling group, but I fell so in love with Melon Kinenbi's segment in the first few months of Hello! Morning that I decided to take it upon myself to translate it for the benefit of those playing along at home without a working knowledge of Japanese.
I've got a fairly 1.0 version of the first six episodes. Which is to say it compiles and runs longer than five minutes, to use a metaphor. The perfectionist in me hesitates to expose the public to it, because I must admit to making up a few lines that I couldn't make out. I made up the ballet terminology, too, so if anyone knows better, please tell me. Oh, and imagine there are accents on passé and plié; the subtitle format doesn't like unicode.
Being that this is my first time subtitling anything I'd appreciate feedback (particularly on the dodgily translated bits). But enough about me.
Ballerina Squad Melon is something of a spiritual predecessor of Cyborg Shibata (says I). It's a campy superhero show, think 60s Batman meets Sailor Moon. Four girls are entrusted with the mission to learn ballet and defend the Earth against alien invaders bent on its destruction.
The only way I got the subtitles to look right was by playing the files in Windows Media Player set to 50% video size. If I can pound my translation into shape, I think I'll figure out how to hardcode them into video at some point.

Still imperfectly translated, but episodes 7-12 are at what I'll call 1.0. After foiling another pernicious plan through no conscious effort of their own, the Ballerina Squad participate in a game show for no reason at all. The host turns out to be none other than their wily foe (at the end of the second episode of this) and they defeat him again.
I'll probably get the remaining five episodes done tomorrow, so check back. Same Melon-channel.

The final installment begins with the dark lord approaching our heroes in a cunning disguise. However, a messenger from the heavens appears and reveals the plot, then proceeds to give the Ballerina Squad special training, which consists of making them try to do a pirouette. Then, for no reason at all, the last three episodes are made up of a bowling match against the forces of evil, id est Coconuts Musume. And then the show just ends.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of the up-coming FC DVDs had a cheap ass PV for that new MKB single. Even a cheap PV would be better than nothing. It can't cost that much to produce a PV like EROS cause they aren't even wearing any clothes :P

I love all the Melon Kinenbi's songs but if I have to choose I will say Midara Matendou because It's in the PV of this one that I fall in love with Masae ...
First I didn't like Eros but when I saw the concert performance of this song I realize how powerful is this song !!

Like a virgin was a choice but nobody wanted to sing it. ironically the only song that I actually like from the ones being covered, "love fool", was the only song we didn't have :/ . The title to their best of album is the same title as their tour, FRUITY KILLER TUNE! Hopefully they'll be getting a new song with this title as well because it freaking ROCKS!
On a related note~ their most recent tour just recently ended within the last few weeks, I think. No word of a DVD yet, and I'm totally hoping for one! Their new tour kicks off in December :( Far too long a wait to hear from MKB! Hopefully something of them will show up! Like... more HPH with one or more members :o

So... Onegai no Miwaku no Target live from the Pucchi Best totally beat a PV of it! The song was kinda like an OPV from the backstage clips of their two summer concerts, and I personally found it BEYOND awesome. I made me crave to see these two tours, though. Especailly after seeing a few clips from their English solos~ But imo, this has to be the best video on the whole DVD! MKB always is just beyond awesome in their performances~

Finished listening to Tokyo Kosei a lil while ago, and I LOVED IT!!!!!. I clipped the part that I wanted, and been listening to it almost constantly.
Just watched the "Onegai Miwakuno Target" PV/Live, and LOVED THAT ONE, ALSO!!!!!.
I really hope some these recent MKB concerts start coming out on DVD soon, I'll snatch them up, fo sho. :D

I guess the information didn't travel very far among Melon fans, but I translated Ballerina Sentai Melon (one of the best things ever) back in April or so. Looking at it now, the timing job is incredibly half-arsed in places. The damage is too extensive to fix easily, so I only made a few changes (most importantly, DVobSub supports Unicode now, so I sacrificed multi-platform compatibility in favour of making it look prettier). I agree they are great. I would not be fan of MK if it had not been for going to an elders club concert earlier this year. Mk blew me away I thought they were fanstatic. Mk had such energy and desire to preform. I have got Fruity Killer tunes which is a great album.I cant decide on my favourite song. My favourite member is Mase because she has a great voice

They are unfortunatly underrated. I didn't know about them until Fruity Killer and I really love them now. They're pretty funny in backstage clips too. Masae has become one of my favorite HP girls, but the rest of them are really great too:heart:

Much of what makes me love Melon songs can only be heard if you’re paying close attention to the instrumentals and harmonies. The comment that you can only hear one girl singing at a time makes me think that you haven’t been doing that. I’d suggest just listening with a good pair of headphones, rather than just viewing a PV.
Admittedly, Akai Freesia isn’t the most exciting sounding single, but it still is very complex in the instrumentation. That seems to be a hallmark of the Melon Kinenbi sound and the Tsunku sound in general: simple lyrical melodies with catchy rhythms and intricate backing tracks. Because of these traits, I’d say my favorite Melon Kinbi songs are “Kousui” and “Champagne no Koi”. My prevously pop-phobic roommate absolutely loves these songs as well and frequently puts them on repeat.
I would definitely start with one of those songs, and maybe check out some of their concert tours with Matsuura or Goto as well. I’m convinced that the 2007 H!P On Stage concert, “Rock desu yo!” is one of the better H!P concerts in terms of performance and energy level. It’s not as flashy as some of the bigger concerts, but it’s awesome nonetheless.
I’d say the overall appeal of Melon Kinenbi isn’t in their videos, but the tracks themselves. They get consistently good songs that make for great listening, in the car for example. They are probably the strongest group vocally and their live performances are also among the most consistently good in H!P.
One thing you’ll notice is the overall balance that Melon Kinenbi has, in singing, dancing, and personality. That’s why the group works so well and that’s why they have never changed their line-up in seven years.
“Balance”, “consistent quality”, and “musical complexity” are the three things that make me love Melon Kinenbi. I’m sure that if you look for these too, you’ll see why their fans are among the most devoted in H!P.

You know Slack, I agree with most of what you said. I say most because I've never listened to anyof her songs, besides Akai Freesia, that's it... :oops:
But I've seen them in action with Matsuura on her Captain Kouen concert, and with Abe on the H!P On Stage 2006; and I remember thinking they were remarkably good. Therefore, I agree with you on your comments about their vocal strength and their consistence.
And also, now that you've properly worded it, I realize their appeal truly doesn't rely on their PV's; which is not the case for the rest of the H!P groups. :)

This appeared recently, and I haven't been able to access the site anymore. I'm hoping the site hasn't put a ban on non-japanese ip's, that would really suck, since I don't know of any other uploaders specifically for MKB.

I think it says that they're switching to a strict IP-filtering scheme to defeat bulletin board hotlinking. Something about mailing to the creator to get your Japanese-only IP registered.
So, probably not just non-Japanese IPs, but all non-registered IPs period. Yikes.

Some loaders block you if you bookmark the loader page (it must check for a referrer), but the page works if you find the main page that links to the loader and get to it that way.

^ Well, it was on the H!O tracker, but its no doubt already dead. I could upload it, but the file size is 30megs under a gig, so I would have to split it into parts. I'd probably use HJSplit to split it into sizes I can upload, then all you'd have to do is use HJSplit to merge the parts back together.
I'll go ahead and do this tomorrow, since it'll still take time to upload each part, depending on the sizes I make the parts and what upload site I might use. Google HJSplit and have it on hand ready to use, it'll be in a rar, its not something you have to install. Check back on this thread, I should have it all upped and posted here later in the day, my time.

^ If asking about MKB's dvd mag vol. 8, ckd, I'll help ya with that, give me some time, though, I've only just begun to upload vol. 7 and its gonna take time, had to split it into 4 parts and upping them to sendspace.
I'll have to do the same thing with vol. 8, just be sure that you have HJSplit, since you'll need it to put all the parts together. If I don't get to vol. 8 tonite, then I'll get it done tomorrow.
As for having all of MKB's dvd mag's, I don't unfortunately, I'm missing the first 3, which sucks, because I sooooooo want them.

Check this out. I was browsing thru the H!O forums, looking thru the MKB thread they have there, and saw a post by Himalia with a posted pic of this very dvd. He said that after he opens it, that he will share it. :w00t: That means keeping an eye on the tracker for when it does pop up there. :D

Unless I actually see concrete proof, I can just easily dismiss this.

Hmm.. I myself don't subscribe to such fortune telling beliefs but I heard that a few different fortune tellers have predicted that Muracchi will definitely get married and on top of that, the first one in Melon to get married. Coincidence? But of course this could all be staged.. :lol:

Finally watched MKB's 2006 FRUITY KILLER TUNE winter concert. Had to convert it to dvd format and burn it first.....np though. :D
I loved the concert, but of course I would, I'm bias and don't give a FUCK~!!!! :shakeit:
MKB's cover of "I Love Rock and Roll" RAWKED, and having "Hatsuyuki" as the closeout song was absolutely fabulous, I love that song immensely. :heart:

The performance of hatsu yuki is pure gold ! I think it's one of the best moment in this concert + the outfits are so beautiful :gmon heartu: Ecaparac I bought the DVD last year so I don't know if there's a tracker :pig huh:

Boss's solo was absolutely SIZZLIN', fo sho. :drool: She worked it.
Loved Muracchi's solo, of course, and also loved Maashii's solo, and Shiba's.
Great stuff all around from this concert. :D

One thing though, are you sure it isn't "Melon Kinenbi Original Premium Seal", as in sticker/decal? The green thing above their heads appears to be the outline of a wiper that shows where the decal would be.

wow 8 years with the same lineup, that is almost amazing for ANY type of music group. Melon has been one of the brightest stars in my HP universe. (I know its kinda cheezy, but I don't know how else to say it!! :) ) When I was in japan I paid a pretty penny to get used cds of theirs, but every cent was worth it. They truly are great, but I wish they would get some more publicity. I guess they are 'the older set' and that is not whats hot, but they serve as a great complimentary group for tours and such. I just hope their next pv has a few more dollars then the last...it was pretty sad :(

Hmm, that was interesting.
It does seem be a rehearsal for a play, which just means those of us outside of Japan will never get to see it, unless it were to come out on dvd, which never really seems to happen anyway.

I'd recommend: 2006 Winter - Fruity Killer Tune (http://wiki.theppn.org/Melon_Kinenbi_Concert_Tour_2006_Fuyu_'Fruity_Killer_Tune'). Since it's for their best-of album, it's low risk and you get all the big hits.
But if you don't mind that Goto Maki is in this one, Hello Pro On Stage 2007 - Reck desu yo! (http://wiki.theppn.org/Hello☆Pro_On_Stage!_2007_'Rock_desu_yo!') is my personal favorite. In this one, the live band just really adds an extra level of energy to an already energetic 7th anniversary concert.

It's really hard to just choose one concert !!! I can recommend you Melon Kinenbi Live Tour 2004 Natsu ~Gokujou Melon~, it's an old concert but the playlist is really good. But for me the best MKB concert has been released in FC DVD and it's Melon Kinenbi Live House Tour 2006 ~Shakunetsu Tengoku~ so good :wub: But don't worry A1 no matter what MKB concert you buy you won't be disapointed !

So I purchased my first MKB concert last week. I went with emifebruary's suggestion and bought "Gokujou Melon". I really enjoyed the concert a lot. The energy from the audience and the girls themselves was amazing. Thank you for those who helped me out, I'm going to go check out "Fruity Killer Tune" next. Has anybody seen the cover for "Melon Best" yet? I thought that was the lamest, unoriginal cover I have ever seen. Look like somebody took mspaint and did the cover real quick.

So I purchased my first MKB concert last week. I went with emifebruary's suggestion and bought "Gokujou Melon". I really enjoyed the concert a lot. The energy from the audience and the girls themselves was amazing. Thank you for those who helped me out, I'm going to go check out "Fruity Killer Tune" next.
Glad you enjoyed it :D The start with this is unmei is so exciting ;) All MKB concert are unique cause even if the setlist looks the same the energy, the audience and the girls looks different.

Yeah I have to agree. I'm still getting it but still for their Mega Melon cover they could have done better like what they did with Taiyo to Ciscomoon / T&C Bomber's cover

My Melon Kinenbi story: I really don't have much of a story on the Melons (as I like to call them). They did catch my attention early on for being H!P's "anti-Momusu", in that they followed the conventional route of being a small group that stayed together for all these years without altering their lineup...that and Masae's hair. :P Other than that, I never really got into their music or been able to catch their TV appearances, though a couple of their songs are among my favorite H!P stuff, and the few instances I've seen of Saito getting the spotlight on Utaban have been hilarious. Favourite Melon Kinenbi member: A toss up between the Boss and Ayumi. Favourite Melon Kinenbi member: Megumi, of course! Glasses or not, she always been special to me

Favourite Melon Kinenbi concert: oooh..hard to choose, wish I had the Live House show they did a few years back..that was when I heard they would not put their English songs on there.

My Melon Kinenbi story: I don't really remember how I got into them...but since the first time I really liked their style :) And how each other personalities balanced the group (just like things should be). Besides, is the only group where all the members can actually sing and their looks were and ara always cool compared to the rest :D

I gave them credit 'cause i know they were talented, i watched the acapella performance they did with Ayaya but i just didn't quite like them. Then i give them a change and i realize of all i had miss. They're incredible awesome and just then....
