[Movie] Samurai Princess
« on: July 03, 2009, 10:32:48 AM »

Kengo Kaji, writer of last year’s TOKYO GORE POLICE, hops into the director’s chair for SAMURAI PRINCESS, a genre-bending sci-fi/fantasy splatterfest that pits android assassin against mutant madmen in an alternate universe version of feudal Japan. In this version of history, trainyard duels, detachable chainsaw limbs, and breast grenades are commonplace occurrences, while mad scientists twist the laws of nature to create sentient robots that can pass as human and crave souls. Enter an android warrior with a penchant for bloodletting (adult video starlet Aino Kishi) and her human partner (Dai Mizuno), whose eardrum-crushing electric guitar riffs are so loud, they’re literally weapons of mass destruction. When our heroine is infused with the souls of eleven of her fallen sisters, she uses their combined power to take down anyone who stands in the way of her quest for humanity. The result is a nonstop geyser of gore, with skeletons popping out of torsos, every imaginable appendage removed from bodies and one particularly angry man-eating phallus.

Produced by VAMPIRE GIRL VS FRANKENSTEIN GIRL’s Yoshihiro Nishimura, SAMURAI PRINCESS is a wonderfully ultraviolent assault on the senses, blending fantasy and reality into an all-out roller coaster ride that toys with the conventions of Japan’s newfound low budget gore scene while simultaneously wallowing in all of the madness that made films like TOKYO GORE and MACHINE GIRL such great successes. What sets SAMURAI PRINCESS apart, however, is its ability to transcend genres and appeal to gorehounds, sci-fi geeks, and fans of the erotic grotesque. As it moves from exploding heads to soft-focus lovemaking, it becomes painfully obvious that director Kaji has a passion for all things racy – and that in his universe, the best thing to do if you’ve got an oversized circular saw protruding from your chest is to start hugging everyone in bloody sight.

Well Go USA announces ‘Samurai Princess’ DVD

The latest action gore fest from Japan is coming to North America courtesy of Well Go USA. The distrib has announced that SAMURAI PRINCESS will be arriving on DVD November 10 with an English dub included. The mondo macabre actioner is directed by Kengo Kaji, writer of TOKYO GORE POLICE, with make-up effects from Yoshihiro Nishimura (MACHINE GIRL) and visual effects supervised by Tsuyoshi Kazuno (CHANBARA BEAUTY).

SAMURAI PRINCESS takes place sometime, somewhere in an alternate universe version of feudal Japan, where people live together with highly developed mechanical dolls. However, excessively developed mechanical dolls start causing harm to the human society, leading to ghastly bloodsheds happening all over the place.

Under the circumstances, Kyoraku, a mad scientist, creates a female ninja mechanical doll. Equipped with 11 types of built-in weapons, the ninja doll is infused with the souls of eleven of her fallen sisters and she uses their combined power to take down anyone who stands in the way. The ninja doll will not die even if she is slashed by a sword or shot by a gun she is virtually indestructible on her quest to save humanity.

Japanese porn star Aino Kishi portrays the fighting lead with rather unconventional weaponry that includes scissor and chainsaw extensions for her legs and boobs that turn into grenades. If something like this had been conceived of any place other than Japan I might have been surprised, perhaps even a little shocked.
