Post by: JFC on November 25, 2013, 05:33:52 PM: So starting next week, Roar of The Rings (aka the tournament to determine the teams that will represent Canada in the next Olympics in Sochi) are being held in Peg Sheety. And even though curling may not exactly be the first thing to pop into everyone's head when one thinks of "interesting TV", one cannot deny that the following video of the "special correspondent" that's being brought in to "help" with the broadcast will likely draw some attention:

Honestly, I don't know whether to laugh at this or worry about it possibly drawing attention away from the teams taking part in the tournament. Considering the last line said in that promo video, I'm kinda leaning towards the latter.

Curling fans will be able to show their appreciation for the sport with new specialty licence plates.

The province and MPI, in partnership with CurlManitoba, announced the plates on Monday at MTS Centre, where the 2013 Roar of the Rings is currently in full swing.

The plates will cost $70, with $30 of that fee going toward the CurlManitoba Curling For Life Endowment Fund.

“Curlers are passionate about the game and this new specialty plate will give them the chance to show off that love to their fellow motorists,” said Justice Minister Andrew Swan, minister responsible for MPI. “The plate will also contribute to a fantastic local organization that helps sustain and build programs that grow, develop and market the sport of curling in Manitoba.”

The plates will be available December 9 through more than 300 Autopac agents across the province.

Well, she made up for it this year.

Jennifer Jones and her rink from St. Vital Curling Club in Winnipeg captured Olympic nomination by beating Sherry Middaugh on Saturday night.

One might be on the other side of the globe at the Olympics, but just remember, it's still 5 'o clock somewhere.
