CHAPTER 1
“The building is surrounded. Send in back up.”
I hear a man whisper into the radio, stationed on the dashboard. I sigh, more men jump out of three more vans, ready for action. This was another busy night to me. I like to call this my daily routine. I’m pretty much your average nineteen year-old college student besides the fact of going out at night to hunt monsters that lurk in the shadows. I get decent grades too might I add. And fighting vamps and other monsters are just a bonus. Yes, you’ve heard right…vampires. Let’s not forget demons and werewolves too. Any monster you could think of, that’s pretty much what I’ve seen and killed. But hey, I’m not so innocent as I claim to be. My biggest secret, and everyone in this group has one, I’m not exactly human. Well…I’m part human and vampire if you must know. I was born that way. Yeah I know what you’re thinking, “How could I you BORN a vampire?”
You’re not the only one that happens to make it a big deal. Quite frankly, I don’t really give a damn on wondering why, it just happened. Everyone talks about me though, telling others how I’m near invincible, just because anything that should kill a normal vampire; doesn’t kill me. I haven’t tried the stake to the heart yet and neither do I plan to. I’m not stupid. Another thing, I don’t need blood like those parasites do. I don’t crave it either. And I DON’T find it odd killing my own kind. I was raised human all my life anyway, but I won’t go into detail about my past. That’s something that has to stick with me the rest of my immortal life. I look at my gun lying neatly on the dashboard, beside the radio. I grip it firmly into my hand, waiting for my cue incase this plan goes wrong. There’s always a plan going wrong when you play with vampires. And I’m always the back up plan.
“Scared we can’t take care the nest of vamps ourselves?” Maimi teases
I look at her after fiddling with my gun. She puts on a little smirk then rests both hands to the steering wheel. I look at her with no smile. You can’t blame me for being a little hostile with my work. Forgive me if I get a tab bit serious-minded about what I do and how much I hate vampires, but how would you feel after you saw your whole family get slaughtered from these low life bastards? It was my father’s doing by the way. A lovely birthday gift when I turned seventeen. I give Maimi a solemn stare.
“I would like to get this job done. You know how Ai gets if a mission fails. Besides, vampires don’t like playing too fair. I should know I’m one of them.” I coldly reply
Maimi’s smile disappears, her eyes focus back to the group of men lined around the apartment building. I looked at the scene through the car mirror. I glance at my reflection unfazed. Drawing my attention away from the group of men, I look over my features. I have fair skin, I could get a tan if I wanted to with no hassle of becoming a bucket of ash, my eyes aren’t discolored that orange yellow or golden flicker, and I have no demon face. I told you…I’m nothing like those bloodsuckers. The only mark that separates me from being human is the two small sharp fangs. Those are the only things I can’t hide. No one would be able to tell that I’m one of those beasts though, unless you’re a vampire yourself. Vampires can sense other vampires and a lot of them seem to hate me the most. I can’t blame them…I have what they want.
“Permission to enter?” The same voice from before ask
I grab the radio.
“Just go in already and get this done with! I have homework to finish.” I demand
I slam the radio back down to the center of the dashboard and look back into the mirror. The guys in black lightweight amour quietly begin to the enter. I feel Maimi’s eyes on me. I turn around.
“What?” I hiss
“We’re supposed to be more organized. We didn’t do months of training for nothing you know?” She tells me in a calm voice
I scoff. She’s always about rules. Always being the good little dog she is. Well, she isn’t really a dog. If you want to be more precise she’s a werewolf, but still. That’s a dog to me, just a very vicious kind of dog. One that can ripe your throat out or eat you alive. She hates when I call her that. She’s very touchy about her monstrous side. I can understand though. It is a little bit of a heavy burden to have this type of power and not be able to control it. She’s a constant threat to those she cares for. I watch her gray eyes flicker with anger. Everyone here has discolored eyes. That’s how you can tell who’s who around here, but me…I have nothing. They’re brown, a human color.
“You and following rules. Sometimes to get the bad guys, you have to break the rules.” I smirk
She’s quiet again and goes back to looking at apartment complex. Everyone’s inside, for some reason though, I get this gut feeling that something is about to go terribly wrong. I keep staring at the building kind of hoping I’m not right. In seconds, a top portion of the apartment explodes. Bricks, concert, and other debris rain down everywhere. I keep staring into the mirror while Maimi ducks her head as a reflex. A hot gust of wind that came from the explosion blows in our direction. The thick smell of smoke and blood fill my senses. This isn’t good.
“That wasn’t supposed to happen!” Maimi screams
I keep watching the scene before me, waiting for anything else to happen. And like predicted another section of the building explodes followed shortly by another. Sometimes I wish my predictions were wrong.
“Abort! Abort! This place is rigged. We’re evacuating, now!” The leader of the unit announces.
In the background you could hear yelling, shooting, and more explosions. I don’t think any of them will make it out alive to be honest. I turn away from the mirror tired from what I’m seeing. Maimi looks at me like I have an answer. She panicking, I can sense it.
“We have to leave now!”
She puts her hand on the keys to start the van. I place my hand on her wrist.
“We have to complete our mission.” I firmly speak
“Are you crazy?! We can’t go in there! The whole place is on fire!”
I squeeze her wrist to get her attention. She winces. Her icy gray eyes lock with mine. She looks at me in disbelief. Franticly, she shakes her head.
“You can’t go in there! You’ll die.”
She sounds almost like she cares for me. I just shrug. I never leave a mission incomplete. That’s just me being stubborn and I also refuse to admit defeat.
“I’ll be back. You can leave if you want.” I offer
“You’re crazy! You can’t…”
I let her wrist go and push open the door. This wasn’t a debate. Once I set my mind on something, it’s kind of hard to get me out of it. With my gun by my side, I walk out onto the dry dirt. Maimi looks at me in horror.
“I’ll meet you back at the base. Go, your girl is waiting for you.”
I give her a faint smile and walk away from the door. I ignore Maimi’s yelling and telling me to come back. Someone’s gotta make this city a safer place.
“Reina wait!” She pleads
I keep walking. It’s time to see just how invincible I am.
I got this idea after watching the Hangry & Angry PV. I have most of the plot worked out. Hopefully I'll be able to finish this fic. I won't tell anything else about this fic you'll all have to see for yourselves lol.
