http://www.google.com/talk/
Anyone gonna use it? Personally, I don't mind moving, but not having any contacts is kinda gay. :(
-
Give it time, young Mal. Give it time. Then all will be destroyed. I'm signed up already!
-
Yeah, I'll start using it if everyone does. Otherwise there doesn't seem any reason to switch.
-
sounds cool. I've been looking for a new gig
-
I've started using it, anyone can add me if they want

Pros: Simplicity. Easy to access email settings.
Con: Only adding @gmail.com accounts.
-
Ugh.. I already have AIM, MSN and Jabber (and not very active on either, even though I'm logged on all the time) plus I'm on IRC (though I tend to be quiet there as well @_@;;).
A new IM client isn't exactly what I need right now xD but it is quite interesting to see that Google now has it's own IM thing. :) Fun.

I haven't used these instant messengers this far, so I doubt I'll be using this one either. But I like Google more than MSN or others, so I hope this would be a success.

Cool, although I don't have a mic so I'll probably just be typing for now.

Hmm I'm using the Jabber plugin in trillian to log into google talk... Maybe you can add gmail addresses into jabber? I don't know.

I downloaded it a few days ago, but I think I'm going to uninstall it soon...
it's a spiffy program and all, but you can hardly customize things such as font and other stuff. also, no emoticons and you can't group contacts together. I guess you could call it plain.
some people said they'd use this over AIM any day, but I'll stick with good old AIM.

Google Talk (http://www.google.com/talk/)
Anyone here actually using it? My friend recommended me this chat application. I've just tried this today and it's pretty good.
I tried to do "Google talk" search on JPH!P and found a thread for it (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=1042.0) and the replies are only a few but I wonder the number of JPH!P people using it now, since the last reply is two years ago. Thought it is not wise to revive an old thread so I just made a new one here.
My opinions:
Pros:
- Plain
Not sure if it is categorized as a Pro, but for me it is, I don't like the extensive all the things you type turn into smilies like current MSN. - Fast
People with fast connection will not really notice it, but it is important for me, whose connection keeps refused by MSN and MSN likes to disconnect me. I've been online with Gtalk for 6 hours and not once getting disconnected. - If you already have a Google account, no need to register again
- Can check gmail mails
- Can dual-login from another PC. The message will be delivered to the PC who sent the last message.
Cons:
- Plain, if people doesn't like plain.
- Where are the people actually using it?
- Have to have a Google account.
- @gmail.com only.
Any opinions about the application? Anyone using it? Anyone likes it? I like it, but so far I only know one person in my contact list that actually use Gtalk! (the one who recommended me)
EDIT: forgot the most important Pro, lol.

It's pretty good as a chat program, but imho their voice chat service is not as good as Skype sound quality-wise (at least the last time I've tried it). And it also doesn't get blocked if you're at work if I'm not wrong.
-
wow, skype vs. google talk....
-
im not convinced with this one
-
Meh, I'm happy with just my MSN and AIM. I don't use Gmail that much anyways.. :-\
