Kurt Vonnegut, whose dark comic talent and urgent moral vision in novels like “Slaughterhouse-Five,” “Cat’s Cradle” and “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” caught the temper of his times and the imagination of a generation, died last night in Manhattan. He was 84 and had homes in Manhattan and in Sagaponack on Long Island. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/12/books/12vonnegut.html?bl&ex=1176523200&en=89fa78a51b1695e0&ei=5087%0A)

Sad. Wonder if anyone will make the joke at his funeral that he did at Asimov's...

"And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, "Kurt is up in heaven now." That's my favorite joke."

Exactly. Full quote:
"I am, incidentally, Honorary President of the American Humanist Association, having succeeded the late, great science fiction writer Isaac Asimov in that totally functionless capacity. We had a memorial service for Isaac a few years back, and I spoke and said at one point, "Isaac is up in heaven now." It was the funniest thing I could have said to an audience of humanists. I rolled them in the aisles. It was several minutes before order could be restored. And if I should ever die, God forbid, I hope you will say, "Kurt is up in heaven now." That's my favorite joke."
Just wonder if they'll actually do it.

I swear I've heard his name in a few places. I'm not a reader these days so I know I haven't read aynthing by him.
Was he in any movies? Are there actors with similar names out there?
Dammit.

He had a cameo role in "Back to School" (starring Rodney Dangerfield) playing himself.
