Title: The artificial bones created from an inkjet
Post by: Foxy Brown on April 20, 2007, 05:50:06 PM
Scientists are creating artificial bones using a modified version of an inkjet printer.

The technology creates perfect replicas of bones that have been damaged and these can then be inserted in the body to help it to heal. (http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23392709-details/The%20artificial%20bones%20created%20from%20an%20inkjet/article.do)

That sounds really interesting... even though I wouldn't want cement dissolving into my body >.>

The printed graft acts as a bridge to allow the body to replace the damaged section with new bone. Crucially, the substance created by the printing process contains the same building blocks as real human bone, allowing the graft to eventually dissolve harmlessly into the body.

The sections made by the printer are so precise that spaces can be left to encourage the regrowth of tissue and blood vessels through the graft, mirroring the make-up of normal bone.

^so I don't think you have much to worry about

Sounds pretty interesting though.

Pretty soon we'll all be able to make our own bones :P
