Title: Racial Profiling?

When police heard that the gunman was Asian, did they arrest this guy because he's Asian too?

That would be racial profiling. What if the guy wasn't Asian?

Meh. You see someone that fits the description of the suspect, you take him in and then figure out if you made a mistake or not.

Better safe than sorry.

Hmm I'm kinda confused. Was that the day of the VA tech thing? or after. If it was after then the guy must have done something wrong to get arrested

I being an Asian would have taken him down as well if he fits the description.

It was the same day, while it was all happening.

Because this was still during the shooting, the police did not have an actual picture of the guy, they only had a description. You fit the profile you can cuffed. Its not racial profiling. Racial profiling is when you pull over or arrest a dude simply because of his race, not because he fits the profile of the criminal.

Great post...I agree. I think if I was there and got cuffed i'd be a little pissed off. But for the interest of public safety I could understand it.

I just thought that cop looked really baddass in his beanie and tight pants.

Where's the racial profiling in there?

racial profiling is when a cop just arrested a person of a specific race( or if they look it) for no reason. in this case, the cop have a desscription, saying an Asian man, so when he finds an asian man. he cuffed him just in case. i don't know if that is during the VA tech or not. but if it is, u can pretty much understand why the cop had to do that.

Eh, yeah, I didn't know the police had a description, not a picture. So that suits as accidental, but if they go further into imprisonment from their accusation, that's crossing the line.

Is it profiling? Yes
Is it warranted at that time? Yes
Is it racial profiling? Maybe Not

I think here's the story of the arrest:

Photographer mistaken for shooter (http://www.collegemedia.com/stories/4-17-07/news/shaozhuo-rivera.html)

He did as he was told, and the officers put him on the ground, cuffed his hands behind his back and searched his bag. According to Cui, one officer spoke on his radio and said, “We’ve got a suspect matching the profile.”

apparently in some states, the ID has a section for race...you know just in case in the event they can't tell from the pic...
