Yes, this was actually posted on wikipedia a couple of hours ago 8]

The news about the hurricane, however.. is not that funny (just a little bit).
This is quite horrible, especially considering what a beautiful city New Orleans is (never been there, but I loved it in Gabriel Knight 8]).

Funny video-clip from the news (http://www.esona.com/gallery/albums/album01/cnn.mov)

I've been following the news about Katrina on CNN a lot during the day.. they have crazy reporters standing IN New Orleans, when all the residents of the city has been asked to evacuate @_@;; There are of course some that refuse to evacuate and are in their homes just.. surviving I guess. There are also people trying to survive on shrimp boats. Yes.

CNN article/news-updates about the hurricane can be found here (http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/29/hurricane.katrina/index.html).

There is a LJ community which have friended a lot of LJers from New Orleans who chose not to evacuate their homes. Read their posts here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/katrinacane/friends).
Lets hope all of them will manage to stay safe :S

Am I the only one who loves catastrophes like this because of all the crazy news casts? :S

Probably not! :P

BUT wow...we had a first hand account from Sexy Beam, but now thousands reported dead? Worst ever! Mississippi got the brunt of it. And did you see those looters? Holy fuck, there's always those guys who take advantage of a bad situation.

Yep, the Salvation Army is also there helping people, so that's another good cause.

Things there are insane right now. Hopefully they'll get order restored soon.

It's surprising how poorly the crisis have been carried out... At least I've got that  kind of image from the media. It's scary to notice how weak even USA (or other western country) is in front of this kind of disasters.

Kanye West was hilarious, but right on. Bush is a useless fuck:

I love Chris Tucker at the end too.

This crap has been handled so stupidly. WTF?! For the US supposedly being the "greatest" country how the hell does something like this happen. Our govt. is filled with stupid fucks.  :x

Some parts of New Orleans now look like they came from a war movie set.

Yes, yes, it is a a well known fact that hurricanes do less damage when a Democrat is President

I never said anything about political parties. Democrat/Republican, it doesn't matter, it was the way things went down. So much damage was done to the place not only because of the hurricane but also from starving people on the streets, and street fights happening here and there. So many people were hurt and killed after Katrina hit. The government could've done something more to help these people. Instead they leave them there to fend for themselves like rats.

A friend of mine was telling me about this and she described it as "one of the most awkward moments on television i've ever seen" and I would have to agree ^^; It was hilarious becaues Mike Meyers was just standing there like "oookaaaaaay....um so anyway" ^^; I have to agree that bush is a useless fuck, but I doubt highly that the whole situation has anything to do with race   Its because the New Orleans state govt and our federal government fucked around and took forever to get anything accomplished >.<

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here been able to donate so far? I'll probably be donating to the red cross through my mom's work asap =(

I may share some political thoughts with Kanye West, but I don't think that kind of statements belong to show, which intention is to get money for victims of a disaster. There sure is Bush's supporters in the audience too. He could criticize Bush some other time.

As President Bush battled criticism over the response to Hurricane Katrina, his mother declared it a success for evacuees who "were underprivileged anyway," saying on Monday that many of the poor people she had seen while touring a Houston relocation site were faring better than before the storm hit. (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/09/07/national/nationalspecial/07barbara.html)

What Katrina really has showed us is that the ghetto DOES exist no matter how many Jay-Z's or Collin Powells there are. Poverty needs to be addressed.

Offers of foreign aid worth tens of millions of dollars -- including a Swedish water purification system, a German cellular telephone network and two Canadian rescue ships -- have been delayed for days awaiting review by backlogged federal agencies, according to European diplomats and information collected by the State Department. I haven't been to the forums for a while, didn't realise this had been stickied :O thanks to whoever did that.

I've been incredibly busy with university stuff lately and not been able to keep up with current events at all. I followed the news about Katrina sort of closely during the first day, but I got the impression that it was calming down and not as bad as people first thought.. I have no idea why I got that impression.. -_-;; I finally had time to read my long neglected news-feed yesterday, and read a lot of incredibly depressing stuff about Katrina. This being the thing that really got to me the most:

Katrina: "Rape, murder, beatings" in Astrodome, say evacuees (http://www.boingboing.net/2005/09/07/katrina_rape_murder_.html)

Quote
"(...) They let the parishes go, not the city center. Tourist trap was saved over human life. A six year old girl was raped in here.. 9 year old boy killed. A man in the shower beaten. No hot food. No help for elderly."

-_-; I wish I could help get people out of there. I heard of some college kids who decided to drive over there (even though media is telling people that it's impossible to get to the people inside.. no one may go there and stuff). They got there, and they saved as many people as they could.. that's just awesome. Of course, I don't want people to put themselves in danger, but it would be awesome if more people could do that.. get people out of those.. domes @_@;; I wouldn't even wish for my worst enemies to be stuck inside there with rape and murder going on -_-;
