Yup, DEF. DIVA is the latest H!P sub-group and it features the top dogs of H!P.
Their first single is coming out on October 19th.

I doubt they could really sell that much on the line up alone, but I wouldn't be surprised if they sell better than some more recent singles. If they kick ass song I'm pretty sure they'll sell comparatively well.

anywayz i am so happy that rika and maki are in the same sub group since sexy8. so lookin forward to it. i also think that miki would fit the group better than nacchi judging on overall image.

I don't think it's just possible anymore. Kei, Yuko and Kaori were in the shuffles and I doubt anyone besides h!p fans really cared. Actually, I guess the majority of H!P fans didn't care, either. :lol:

All were 'aces' and lead members of Momusu so to me it makes perfect sense. Eg. Miki's not in this group not because she's not a diva but because SHE'S IN MORNING MUSUME. This group is for graduated members only (+ Ayaya). Mari's not in this group because she didn't graduate, she left. Kaori's not in this group because she wasn't a lead member nor an ace. It.Makes.Perfect.Sense.

Still, sounds like it'll be good, and Rika's been improving a lot. If they do a concert, all 4 of them on stage together will kill everyone with stage presence.

Because I'm lazy I'll just take what I wrote over at jpm, modify it slightly, and then repaste it here.
I don't think most of you understand the implications of the name "Diva". While most people tend to associate being a diva with having some measure of vocal ability, the true indication that one is a diva is the artist's stage presence and ability to control the audience. The word Diva is latin for goddess and so the name refers to an artist that recieves a god-like reverence. This is why Rika is in Def. Diva and not another h!p soloist like Kei, Kaori, Nakazawa, or any of the other myriad solo girls lacking work.
As for why Rika and not Miki or Takahashi or someone else in Morning Musume? Well, it's quite obvious that this group is intended for an appearance at kouhaku. If you don't know what kouhaku is, the I suggest you click this link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kouhaku_Uta_Gassen). Since Diva appears to be intended to be for kouhaku, then Morning Musume members can't be in Diva. Not because it would be unfair, but because each artist can only participate in one group. Thus, because Morning Musume will almost assuredly be on kouhaku this year, any members of Morning Musume are automatically out of consideration.
Also, I don't think it is prudent to suggest that Diva will be NUN + Rika. The name alone should tell you that the theme of Diva will differ significantly from NUN. While NUN was very up-beat and techno-rock inspired, Diva will almost certainly be far more epic in it's theme. Diva should showcase these girls in a very different manner from NUN and because of that, I think this group has the potential to make a much bigger impact than Gomattou or NUN and will probably serve as an excellent promotion for these girl's new, individual works that are still on the horizon.
In other words, I'm excited about the prospects of Def. Diva.

In summary, the article basically heralds the formation of the strongest special unit in H!P history. Formed by Nacchi, Gocchin, Rika and Ayaya, the quartet will be known as DEF. DIVA ( the supreme songstress ). The name was picked to distinguish the group from the other idol units in existence ( they are a cut above the rest ). The yet untitled single's due for release on 19 October.

I'm looking forward to the work this group is giving just as you guys are. But I'm worrying if Rika's voice will actually fit into the other three's voice (a.k.a Nochiura Natsumi) base on singing performance.
Somehow I feel the song melody will change from fast ----> slow (or very slow), again this is based on comparison between Nochiura Natsumi and Def. Diva

Now I'm really hoping for something r&bish. Suki sugite baka mitai sounds like one! Or a ballad, but I hope they understand that people are bored to ballads. And since NUN was upbeat... this HAS to be like, say, Shall we love. Or so I hope. ^_^ Yay for this group anyway.
Oh, I was wondering... If some programs/tv channels are still stubborn and angry at Nacchi and won't take her in some programs, could they not take Def. Diva? That would suck.

I didn't mean putting Rika into Nochiura Natsumi, is just how I feel that Rika's singing style is different than the other threes. That's why I said the singing style will change based on the comparison between Nochiura Natsumi and Def. Diva.

そして、松浦亜弥でＤＥＦ．ＤＩＶＡです。
ＤＥＦ．＝ 〔形〕《俗》最高の，いかす［definitiveの短縮形］
ＤＩＶＡ＝ 〔名〕（オペラの）主役女性歌手；プリマドンナ.［イタリア語］
と言う意味があって、英語とイタリア語の合体なんで、まあ造語です。
（アメリカではＤＩＶＡはちょっとニュアンスが少し違うようです）
コンセプトは「健気に見せて実は気の強いＤＩＶＡＳ」 彼氏にふられそうな瞬間。
一瞬たじろいで、そのままいい女風情で立ち去ろうとするが、
実際には、「後ろ髪惹かれたおしてる」感じがするイメージです。
バックトラックですが、曲中に何度も極端な転調を行っております。
精神的な場面転換をクラシカルなイメージでガンガン転調していきました。

Well, for these several years we had 3 people special formations, such as Gomattou, and Nochura Natsumi.
However, this year, returning to the concept of recieving more of the audiences feelings [??? don't take this line seriously, cuz i don't get it.] we go with 4 people.

Well, Ishikawa Rika graduated from Morning Musume and Viyuden is on the rise. Including Ishikawa Rika, Morning Musume graduate Abe Natsumi and Goto Maki, and Matsuura Aya, they form Def Diva.
Def = [shape] the most stylish (shorten form of definitive)
Diva = [name] (Opera's) leading female singer; Prima donna (Italian)
With those meanings, the coined word combines English and Italian.
(There's a slight difference in nuance of diva in America)
The concept is the moment that "the showing bravery and strength the Divas giving cold shoulder to their boyfriends.
Faltering for a moment, they depart with an appearance of the good women, but really, its like an image of being captivated by the back of their head.
It's the backtrack, but in the song, there are many times the key changes drastically. The soulful scene converts from a classical image to an intense change in keys. The end of the tune, and futhermore, to express the mind, it also changes keys.
A women usually changes her mind in one second, so I think this piece is able to express the women's feelings by the changing keys. The individuality of the 4 singers also goes against each other, so it becomes a fresh new work.

As for the song, it has its moments, but there isn't even a proper hook. It's a solid song in all aspects, but it doesn't have anything very distinguishing and it just feels rather...forgettable. Perhaps the pv and marketing will add some spice to it, but right now I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed.

maybe you think I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the two types of singing tones; strong/emotional (Goto, Ayaya) and soft/gentle (Nacchi, Rika), makes it sound as if it is expressing two different feelings thru the lyrics. Whereas if all the members are singing with the same tone then it strengthen the feeling of the song, makes it more sounding.
Personally I perfer the way how Goto and Ayaya sing over Nacchi and Rika sing (i.e. singing the song with strong emotion and feeling).
One thing I found out, but not sure if it's a good thing, is once you hear this song for 3 or 4 times you can easily pick up the lyrics and sing along...

Man, I'm loving the jazz remix. It's surprising how well the vocals match with the slow jazz influenced beat. Rika's vocals actually sound better in the jazz remix than in the original version.

I just heard the single and I really like the original and Jo-ou versions, but the Jazz remix is just okay. Although it may grow on me later. I wanna see the performances, although it doesn't too good. Hapefully the later ones will be better.

Rika is naturally dark so she gets tanned really easily while Maki and Aya are naturally pale. But yeah Rika has been more tanned in DEF. DIVA than usually.

like I said before, this song is beyond AWESOME :love: doesn't sound very H!P-ish, but still very good; and definitely one of my most favorite songs released -by- H!P.
with the Music Fighter performance: Rika really stood out vocally (as almost everyone pointed out) and not in the best sense, she sounded somewhat weak in it (compared to the rest) and I felt she was struggling with the song. Nacchi was good as usual (I liked the end where everyone was being serious while Nacchi had this stupid grin on her face :lol: ). although Aya sounded the best in the performance partly because she does lives really well, I feel Maki sung it with the most passion compared to her (and pretty much all the members), and of course Maki does amazing in lives as well - she's always had a strong, powerful voice.
maybe also because I still have this image of Aya singing well, but not with much feeling or emotion (she sings for the hell of it or only puts emotion when she wants to), stuck in my head...
the re-mixes are awesome as well! :D the Jo-ou Remix is the best (partly because it's the most similar to the original), for some reason the CRAZY J-G Jazz Remix just doesn't work, lol.

Those balloons remind me of a Science Fiction Congress where on of the girl organizers was constantly 'unfindable' in the crowed because she was short (like less then 1m60), we attached a balloon on a string to her belt then 8) the rest of the day we had no problem...

:lol: yeah nothing really made any sense. The moving camera didn't really bother me as it did to most people but the flashing lights added with the moving camera was making me dizzy. That and the running with balloons what I found wrong with it. Other than that I thought it was fine. It's pretty much equal with the song for me.

That is dissappointing, I wonder what went wrong. Song is good, has some of the more popular members of H!P...hrm maybe it wasn't promoted enough? (only performed on H!M and Music Fighter on the first week)
Surely with just the combined fans of Ayaya and Nacchi should of gotten it a better first week sales. Lets hope the 2nd week doesn't drop off too quickly since they would have of performed on Hey!x3, Pop Jam and Utaban.

I predicted they'd get at least between 30,000-40,000 copies sold. but 26,000 is certainly dissapointing... however, I'm glad they managed to rank #1 on the charts which is a pretty damn great achievement!

I still think it's a helluva achievement. I mean, it's not like the #2-10 spots were filled by one-hit wonders and Matsuken Sambas IV.
Number-one single: they'll always have that.
Again, I believe this gives UFA the leverage it needs to push DEF.DIVA for inclusion in this year's NHK Kohaku, barring of course another last-minute scandal.

About the sales, 26K is certainly disappointing, but I am not too surprised. Whether or not it is the lowest no.1, It is still no.1 , I am happy for the girls.
The problem really boils down that most Japanese fans would rather not buy the single but to spend the money on goods. UFW is putting out so much stuff that it is getting ridiculous. Hence forth, most fans decided to spend the money on the never ending barrage of goods and also to attend concerts, so the CD sales suffered. The H!P fan base is not getting any bigger anyway, and it is difficult to substain everything. That's the trade off. At least the concerts kept coming, that is still a good sign.
PS. In japan, you can also rent the cd... or get them cheaper in 2nd hand stores later. At least some of the Japanese fans I know tend to pick up 2nd hand CDs later on.

Although I was somewhat surprised that Morning Musume didn't attract as many fans I as I thought they would in the 20, 30 year old range... Time has changed, I suppose. Maybe the miracle changed that... nah...

Well I assume that the 20-30 years old fans voted DEF. DIVA over MM because you have to remember that most of those fans are probably fans from the old school MM. Therefore most likely they would like Nacchi and Goto (old MM members) over the new ones.
On the other hand, younger girls are more into New MM perhaps they still have the dream of getting into MM and becoming the new star(s) in the future (influence by Koharu???)

sth i found amusing is the fact MM totally got shadowed by Def.Diva from the talk part to the perf. just by listening to the crowd could really tell the difference.

I thought the new white with gold trimming costumes for the group couldn't get any better, but it did! :heart:
the sparkles stole my heart at first, haha. I love how the costumes moves with their dancing, and it's just basically a really great outfit. lol! I just didn't like how their blue boots went with the white coats they wore before the performance, it just didn't match.
the whole performance was amazing, and Rika sounded her best in this DEF. DIVA live performance.

Im usually pretty tough on the typical (poor) quality of hp musically, but after looking thru the whole first half of the fns thing, its clear that def diva was one of the best things there. Otuka ai, aiko, and a couple others were cool too, but dd were definitely a highlight.
Abes voice seemed a bit weak but rika actually sounded ok.

I totally agree with that, Hakaisou! Giving them that Rakuten Eagles song as their second and last single was just so unfair XD Rika, Gocchin, Ayaya, and Nacchi definitely have some of the best vocals in all of H!P and they just go so well together! I'd love to see another upbeat, cool single like Sukisugite Baka Mitai again :heart: Definitely one of my fave H!P songs EVAR

We'll they're involved in Ready Go! and the volleyball thing, but from what I've seen they'll only be in the CM's and the single. I don't think they'll be doing much as a group for the rest of the year.
But they've been around for such a long time. Certainly longer than any other temporary supergroup.

My DEF. DIVA story: Back when I was repping the H!P and I got wind of this 4 headed monster, I was all "Yo, this right here is the shit!" I remember one TV appearance where they were eating noodles with the Hey! Hey! Hey! homies and Aya was able to slurp the noodles down easy while the others were wondering why in the blue hell she eats like that.

My DEF. DIVA story: The SUPER GROUP of H!P finally....except the costumes for the CD cover was wack. Though I hated the "Rika Weakest Link" Peoples - idiots!! Rika IS one of the most popular in H!P, deal with it - loved the DEF.DIVA song. It was fun and bouncy, the PV was really underground and cheapily done and I couldn't give a fuck :lol: but the lives and dance, Rika really got the extra exposure when at the time v-u-den was slowing down. The DANCE OH!! When we were all doing the jackhammer haha, I remember in 2006 World Tour KT jumped outta the van and jackhammered in front of Fen's car XD

My DEF. DIVA story: The first time I saw them was when I download a big batch of haropro PVs. I thought the PV was ok but the song was pretty AWESOME! I really like it. Until now is still in my playlist. I really wanted another song from them but I guess it was no possible :( Even if Rika was, vocally, the weakest I think she gave the group something special. I think Aya was the one who said that thanks to Rika Def.Diva feel it more like a group. :heart:
