A Japanese drop box for unwanted babies triggered a wave of nationwide soul searching Wednesday, a day after it was discovered a preschooler -- and not an infant -- had been dumped there by his father on its first day of operation. He is three years old. It should not be too difficult to track his dad down. And give him some counseling. If he wants to put kid up to adoption, may be grandparents will adopt him.
- He should go into counseling, why just drop kid at the box. The box is meant for newborn , not older children.

I don't know if it's wise to give the child back to his father who already abandoned him once. What is kinda extreme from a parent imo.

damn! the parents are evil... keep the baby when he is cute... and throw it away when he grow up....

The drop-box itself is fucked up. -_-

The drop-box is way better than a nearby river or backyard garden.

I was imagining a literal box... but that image looks a lot better.
Yeah, that's fucked up.

Now thats that just messed up! >:(Why bother having kids
in the first place if you going to dispose them like trash.
Sometimes I question the way people think. ??? >:(

I meant the fact that they have such things to begin with, of course its a better alternative than the extremes you stated.

Not all people actually choose to have their baby.
This idea is a lot better than just abandoning them in random places or abortion (I'm actually sorta pro-choice, but that's a somewhat different issue >_>).
I don't think what the father did was totally wrong, he just couldn't handle being a father. But as the article says, he could've have tried to reach a social worker or something. There are far more better ways than just abandoning your child.
hopefully the kid's not old enough to remember this when he older...

Alright, but the box isn't the one that's fucked up. It's the parents who even consider giving their baby away. For parents of an unwanted newborn baby, listing the options is kinda easy: give the baby to the adoption through normal procedures, baby-dropbox, keeping the baby without being able to offer a certain quality of life to the newborn or the nearby river. Making the parents keep the child as a punishment or something isn't a good thing for a child.
I think abandoning a child is pretty extereme already. Babies dropped in a box will have a better life with their new parents than the ones who abandoned them.

I want to condemn the father but considering how many news stories I've seen concerning kids getting killed by their own fuck head parents, all I can say is at least the kid is getting a chance even if he has to live knowing he was abandoned.
