Post by: chera on June 02, 2006, 01:30:29 AM: I recall watching her very first movie, when she was still a very young no-name girl. It was called "Ikimasshoi" I believe.

It was about a bunch of junior high girls who formed the school rowing club. They sucked, of course. No special about the plot, besides that it had surprisingly little sentimentality. A pretty sad movie, actually. A very fine performance by Tanaka. She wasn't cutesy at all in the movie, but performed very naturally.

Actress Tanaka Rena (29) will become the 5th generation of MCs for the popular NHK talk show "Top Runner". It’s her first time ever hosting a show on TV.

"I was really surprised when they approached me about hosting this fascinating show that already has a history of over 13 years. It’s a big pressure, but I also can’t wait to meet so many different people every time on the show. I’m going to enjoy every recording from now on." Tanaka commented about the new experience. Copywriter, CM planner and creative director Yanai Michihiko will co-host the show with her.

The show got established in 1997 and has seen many different guests since then. Celebrities, cultured people, athletes and so on, leading people from all kind of fields get invited on the show and together with the hosts they talk about a great variety of topics. Its guests and style made it one of the few successful long-running programs on TV.

The producer of the show about Tanaka, "Tanaka-san is very proud of her own work and a very earnest and hard-working person. She is able to listen to the inner voice of the top runners and will carefully share it with the viewers."

Co-host Yanai’s impression of Tanaka, "She is very calm and always has a miraculous sense of security. Tanaka-san is able to look deep into your soul and absorb all of your true feelings. I’m just sitting by her side and yet I already feel like she knows all of my thoughts. Even for me it’s very exciting to see how this combo is going to work out."

Tanaka thinks highly of Yanai as well. "He truly is like a reassuring friend. I learn a lot, get encouraged and receive some of his creativity just by being next to him." Looks like the new hosts are already really fond of each other. It will be interesting to see them interact with each other on the show.

The new host combo will take over the show in April.

i agree. i have seen that film many times. i love the story and like rena tanaka and mayuko fukuda :lol:

10 Promises was much better than the film I viewed just before that of Rena's, Drugstore Girl, okay movie but the plot left something to be desired, though you-know-who looked great in it. :inlove:

Rena’s character was that of a devoted and cheerful wife who continuously tries to support her husband who is suffering from various life-threatening and incurable diseases. The special drama is based on a novel by Tamamoto Eisaku of the same name, whose tragic yet encouraging plot is based on his own life.
It's also going to be coming out on DVD, you can already order it from CDjapan for 3800 yen. :angry:

Found out a little more info on that^^ film, very little though, :( title of it is Tanemaku tabibito: Minori no cha and it's scheduled to come out on March 17th, that's about all though, looks like it's set on a farm though, :shocked this pic was just put out yesterday.

Okay, new page and new info about the Tanemaku tabibito: Minori no cha movie. As far as I could surmise, the plot is about some organic tea farmers and the struggles that go along with making something that isn't too popular but in how they overcome the struggles and lead a fulfilling life, the film is set in Usuki, Oita Prefecture. Release date for the film is March 17th but the advance screening will be on March 3rd, you-know-who is looking quite good, for her it's impossible not to, :yep: even in an astronaut's suit she would shine through. :thumbsup

^^ Another new Rena TV movie :thumbsup and this one looks intersting, it'll be airing on July 27th and is called Family Complex on NTV. Tamaki owns a company that rents out people to act like their client's family members for occasions like weddings, funerals & meeting with teachers but one day a strange client who has only one month to live shows up!
