Title: China seizes 'Death Note' comics in war on horror
Post by: Guchi_Jnr on June 15, 2007, 01:49:50 PM
China has confiscated close to 6,000 of Japan's popular "Death Note" comic books as part of a crackdown on horror publications that it deems harmful to children, according to state-run media.

The 5,912 comic books join 11,930 other "illegal horror books" that have already been swept from shelves across the country, Xinhua news agency reported late Wednesday.

The report did not mention the names of other publications that have been targeted since the authorities began the crackdown in April.

The stories in "Death Note" center on a character who decides to punish evildoers using a notebook that kills anyone whose name is written in it.

The report said that students in Chinese schools have been seen imitating the character in the comic book, writing down the names of people they do not like in a notebook. (http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20070615a9.html)

The students are stupid, writing a name in a notebook that doesn't even do anything. Anime can't be real. Or can it?><

Well Death Note is hard to understand... but if you see a children writting a name you better tell him that is not gonna work and explain why... if you only take the book by force without any explanation is gonna be lot worst so you bet in China they are gonna look for the manga even if is illegal.

I personally don't really like Death Note but it depends on the person and how they interpret the story. Children however are probably more influenced by cartoons and I think it's a bit extreme and going on the safe side to ban it. <- Life would become more boring though because Death Note is pretty interesting!

Wow. I didn't think that it would become something so serious. Everyone is so concerned about the effect that fiction has on children since they are so easily influenced, I guess. Magic is bad and writing people's names in notebooks in order to kill them is bad.
