Title: Military Files Left Unprotected Online
Post by: Foxy Brown on July 12, 2007, 07:18:49 AM
Detailed schematics of a military detainee holding facility in southern Iraq. Geographical surveys and aerial photographs of two military airfields outside Baghdad. Plans for a new fuel farm at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. The military calls it "need-to-know" information that would pose a direct threat to U.S. troops if it were to fall into the hands of terrorists. It's material so sensitive that officials refused to release the documents when asked.

But it's already out there, posted carelessly to file servers by government agencies and contractors, accessible to anyone with an Internet connection. In a survey of servers run by agencies or companies involved with the military and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, The Associated Press found dozens of documents that officials refused to release when asked directly, citing troop security. I'm sure there's a few military members in this forum that would disagree with both of you.
But of course, that would depend if you were talking from experience or ignorance.

My father was a Navy Commanding officer, I have two uncles and one brother in the Army, and I was on the Naval Special Forces here for four years. It is a joke, and an old, common knowledge joke. If you are not in the military, I guess you will NEVER understand military humor. Officers and soldiers in USA, Europe and almost every country I have visited (and I visited a lot of countries due to Spec-Ops training) use that joke, unless they are in Military Intelligence. So please, try to find out before calling people ignorants.

I understand and agree that military use that joke, but I've also heard non-military use it which was meant as the "ignorance" part.
Can't see how you thought I was calling anybody ignorant though since the choices were optional. Okay, I know I left that statement open to be taken two ways, that was intentional. Curious how you took the negative. My comment was made to stick up for the Military so if you have served then why would that make you mad?
If you have served as you say then well done. I respect anyone who voluntarily joins their Military and serves, no matter their country.

Oh, and by the way shipmate, 13 years so far.
