A teenage driver who caused the death of a woman in a crash as she sent a mobile phone text message has been sent to a young offenders' institute. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6908710.stm)

I read this a couple days ago when it was first reported. You ought to quote the part about her sending nine messages within 15 minutes.

damn , WTF

Teens are already a high risk beind the wheel, but with this it just might up the ante in terms of insurance, and probably more.
IMHO, there should be a far longer period of classroom education for young drivers to be, and a longer period of driving instruction behind the wheel before a teen is able to get a learners permit, let alone a license to drive.
The majority of teens do not possess the necessary common sense while driving, and also do not understand the significant fact that driving is a Privilege and Responsiblity not to be taken likely.

Teenagers these days, think they're so cool and stuff. They're way under the influences.

the girl deserver it... she can spend the next 4 years in jail doing some reflection...
-
The girl is 19, she should have known better.
This isn't about teenagers driving, it's about irresponsible idiots driving. I doubt things would have been much different if she were a couple years older and wasn't a teenager when she got her license.
-
Doubtless this girl is rightfully deserving of ire for what she did. At the same time, I pity her in her current situation as I'm sure her life has been turned upside down by this. My condolences go out to the family of the woman who died.

What the hell? How can she be out in 2 years if she KILLED someone?!?!? Did I read this right?? That B**** should be in there 10+ years
-
Yeah, maybe it is reasons like this that the legal driving age might be getting put up over here.

Upping the driving age just means we'll have the same incidents, only with everyone a couple of years older.
They need driver's ed back in SCHOOL... now it costs about 200 bucks for a course, but I personally think it's worth it. I took it and I'm actually glad I did.

Lots of people do lots of things distracting them while driving. Radio control, A/C control, arguing with passengers, eating, drinking coffee, makeup, phone call, ipod, change clothes, ... She is just plain dumb (for sending messages regularly) and drive too fast.
When so many people breaking the law, what can we do but suffer accidents.
-
Distractions are bad enough when you're on the road, like talking on the phone, but you should at least keep your eyes on the road instead of looking at the phone. It's common sense...

It was a case of involuntary manslaughter rather than murder.
-
..which would be the same case if she had hit the victim even if she had not been texting
so.......?

Case #2 -
Teenager hit by train whilst texting, somehow survives (http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/23/teenager-hit-by-train-whilst-texting-somehow-survives/)
