A South African man shot three weeks ago was told to "walk the pain off" and is still trying to persuade hospitals to remove the bullet lodged in his side, a newspaper said on Thursday.
Three Johannesburg hospitals refused to remove the bullet for security guard Phillip Mashiane, 38, who was shot during a burglary at the property of South Africa's ambassador to the United Nations, the Star newspaper said. "Walk it off, you wussy !!" LOL XD

Shameful. Hard to believe.

South Africa is battling some of the highest rates of violent crime in the world, and its underfunded public hospitals struggle to treat all those who need healthcare.
This puts thing in context. Maybe they had more urgent cases to deal with.

Its one thing to tell someone you can't help them because maybe you don't have the materials/know how/funding or whatever, it's seems like something totally different to go and say 'Walk the pain off.' :-\

High violence? And hospitals that will tell you to walk it off?
I suppose I'll not be traveling South Africa anytime soon.

That's pretty fucked up... The wound would probably heal with the bullet inside him. He also risks being poisoned by the bullet...
