Title: School bans cupcakes
Post by: modesta107 on September 12, 2007, 03:06:25 AM
As students return to school this week, some are finding unusual entries on the list of class rules: fewer fried foods, smaller servings and no cupcakes. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/05/business/05junkfood.html?ex=1346731200&en=99290c56d6e1fac0&ei=5124&partner=permalink&exprod=permalink)

This is all well and good, but seriously, it does all start at home with the parents.
The unfortunate thing is, that the U.S. has become a country based on junk food and fastfood over all the countless years, so its not exactly a new problem with poor nutrition not just among kids, but adults as well.
Basically, its all about convenience now, and parents don't exactly monitor what kids tend to eat.

Its fair to say that the majority of kids don't really exercise at all, keeping themselves indoors playing video games and glued to the web most hours of the day and night.
Again, this falls to the parents to be parents, and do whats best for their kids.

Ok, enough from me, the well has run dry, as has my attention span.

It's good that some schools are now taking the plunge and offering healthier food choices, but like L-San said, parents have to do their part and encourage their kids to make/take these healthier alternatives (particularly when they're younger).
