AN original Big Brother contestant is dead after allegedly overdosing on heroin in Beijing.
It is understood New Zealand-born Gordon Sloan, who starred in the first series of the Channel 10 reality hit in 2001, died yesterday in a hospital in the Chinese capital.
According to a source close to Sloan, the former reality star's parents had travelled from their home in New Zealand after their son was admitted to hospital in a coma on September 1.
It is understood the devastated couple opted to turn off the life support that had been keeping their 34-year-old son alive.
While the exact cause of death is yet to be determined, sources said Sloan was believed to have overdosed on heroin.
Apart from his stint on Big Brother, Sloan also made the headlines in 2003 when he joined a group of Australians who travelled to Iraq as "human shields" ahead of the war. (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,22415081-662,00.html)
Gordy was always great value and spoke his mind...None of that sugar coating talk...
Guess he lived life to the fullest and paid the ultimate price.. Sad that he'll no longer be around..

I'm surprised it hasn't happened to more Big Brother contestants with the pressure they are under after they leave the house - don't know how they cope with it
