PORTAL

It's out, it's awesome, and I wanna know what everyone else thinks.  Also, I'd love to see people's stats for the challenge maps as far as how many gold/silver/bronze placements you've got and how far past the gold requirement have you been able to get on certain chambers.  Any other funny/cool videos you guys make are welcome as well.

Chamber 14
Least Time
Bronze: 50 Seconds
Silver: 20 Seconds
Gold: 10 Seconds
My Best: 8 Seconds (Video (http://www.sendspace.com/file/cr3kid))

Have to say that the Orange Box looks like an amazing value for money, and Portal looks like it would be worth the retail price alone.

Penny Arcade FTW

I'd say Portal is a bit some to be worth it on its own. That said, it's a fantastic deal. I've been playing through Half-Life 2: Episode 2. It's amazing how well the Source engine has held up over the years. It still looks as good as FEAR, STALKER, and Bioshock and better than BF2142 and Quake Wars.

Of course the Orange Box is drawing my away from my Wii for even longer...

I'll probably finish Portal tomorrow.

Finished Portal today, such a great game really hehe. I can't say anything about it though cause even the smallest thing I say would spoil it for people who haven't played it. So go play it!

Yeah, I've had it on repeat on my my last.fm (http://last.fm/user/theonlyamber) for awhile.  I cracked up the first time I heard it.  My brother's like "THERE'S A REAL NEAT SONG AT THE END", but this is like the best ending ever.  XD  There's also some pretty interesting stuff on Youtube about it, such as the voice files ripped..  I wanna find the turret files ripped though T___T

Just completed it today. Best ending ever!

**SPOILER**

I was equally pumped up racing against the timer and yet was laughing myself silly ('If you love that thing so much, why don't you just go marry it?', the orange orb speaking). And then the ending song came on and that just sealed it's greatness. Haven't tried any of the advanced maps or challenges yet. Might update this post later at some point.

EPIC BUMP!

Portal 2 has been indirectly hinted at in an awesome way. Via PC updates, they've added just a lil bit more to the ending:

Quote
Not content with teasing us last night with something potentially Apple-related, Valve has also added more tease to Portal.

The latest PC patch for the developer's excellent first-person puzzle game claims it has "Added valuable asset retrieval" - another cryptic description following on from last week's transmission business, which left players scrambling around the game with a radio listening for information.

Following some lightning internet detective work (collated by Rock, Paper, Shotgun - thanks chaps!), fans have uncovered a new end sequence, already on YouTube. It's worth having a watch and listen. What does it all mean? The obvious conclusion is that it's the long-awaited Portal 2, but Valve is likely to keep on teasing until we can't bear it any longer.

Post by: Amplifier on July 01, 2010, 03:54:20 AM
Portal 2 looks a lot more complex than Portal 1, but for the best. I doubt the stuff in these videos will actually be in the final game. Valve are such tricksters.. Portal is a sweet game though, you should check it out if possible. There's a demo available, too.
Title: Re: Portal
Post by: zoolander on July 01, 2010, 04:26:25 AM
Actually the first Portal is already one of my favorite games.

Valve are really great with the bait and switch. I mean the first 90% of portal you think it's just some funny puzzle style game then all the sudden shit starts going down. Great stuff. There were a couple tricky spots for me (I think on the last level I had to look up a video guide).

But I can't wait for the sequel.  :twothumbs

If I remember right, Valve had said that what you saw in these E3 demo videos would not necessarily appear in the finished game, they're more of a demonstration on how these new concepts work. Very effective too, I'm glad to see the sentry droids back. "Ow! Ow!" XD

Had it been any other developer I would agree with you, but it's Valve so I have more confidence in them than most. I imagine there will be a degree of simple puzzles considering that PC and PS3 players can play with each other, but I've no doubt it will work.

I just realised how excited I am by this. :w00t: I've imposed a media blackout on it from this point on, the last thing I saw was the single player stuff they were showing at PAX

TGL: The Half Life games in particular resonate so deeply with gamers. Are you surprised by how huge the Portal universe has become?

CF:
We never could have guessed that it would have taken off the way it has. We didn’t invent the game with this is mind. We just wanted to create a good game, with good environments and a cool world and go from there.

TGL: Is this the definitive Valve experience? Is this the best thing you’ve ever done?

CF:
In terms of single player experience, it’s absolutely the best. In terms of co-op, I’m going to say it’s a tie with the Left 4 Dead series. Left 4 Dead is near to my heart. The Single player is so dense in Portal 2. It’s the best.

To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Portal 2 Space Core mod, which will let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.

Also, since Skyrim was the only major release of 2011 without Nolan North in it, you should consider this mod a patch to fix that problem. You can now feel free to include Skyrim in the "Nolan North" section of your video game library, which is to say, your video game library.
