Yahtzee reviews the Orange Box (and Portal).
Not content with teasing us last night with something potentially Apple-related, Valve has also added more tease to Portal.
The latest PC patch for the developer's excellent first-person puzzle game claims it has "Added valuable asset retrieval" - another cryptic description following on from last week's transmission business, which left players scrambling around the game with a radio listening for information.
Following some lightning internet detective work (collated by Rock, Paper, Shotgun - thanks chaps!), fans have uncovered a new end sequence, already on YouTube. It's worth having a watch and listen. What does it all mean? The obvious conclusion is that it's the long-awaited Portal 2, but Valve is likely to keep on teasing until we can't bear it any longer.
Valve's super-secret E3 surprise turns out to be a bit of crow-munching in the form of Portal 2, its geometry-bending shooter, for Sony's PlayStation 3.http://www.pcworld.com/article/198935/valve_apologizes_for_sonybashing_announces_portal_2_for_ps3.html?tk=hp_blg (http://www.pcworld.com/article/198935/valve_apologizes_for_sonybashing_announces_portal_2_for_ps3.html?tk=hp_blg)
The anticipated sequel to Valve’s space-bending puzzle game Portal will not emerge from whatever dimension it is currently trapped in until 2011, the publisher said today.http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/06/portal-2-delay/ (http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/06/portal-2-delay/)
I finally got around to seeing what the fuss was about. It was a fun game, but I still don't find cake jokes as funny as the rest of the internet seems to.
TGL: The Half Life games in particular resonate so deeply with gamers. Are you surprised by how huge the Portal universe has become?
CF: We never could have guessed that it would have taken off the way it has. We didn’t invent the game with this is mind. We just wanted to create a good game, with good environments and a cool world and go from there.
TGL: Is this the definitive Valve experience? Is this the best thing you’ve ever done?
CF: In terms of single player experience, it’s absolutely the best. In terms of co-op, I’m going to say it’s a tie with the Left 4 Dead series. Left 4 Dead is near to my heart. The Single player is so dense in Portal 2. It’s the best.
To celebrate the opening of the Steam Workshop for Skyrim, Valve and Bethesda have teamed up to bring you the Portal 2 Space Core mod, which will let the aggressively space-centric little robot tag along on your adventures in Tamriel.
Also, since Skyrim was the only major release of 2011 without Nolan North in it, you should consider this mod a patch to fix that problem. You can now feel free to include Skyrim in the "Nolan North" section of your video game library, which is to say, your video game library.
