Title: Fair Play... is not my style.
Post by: inDeceit on December 04, 2007, 07:29:52 PM
I feel conflicted to be doing another fic xD But the idea was just so tempting. Basically the same characters I often use, with some extra. FYI, Bancho = last bit in chapter's title.

Chapter 1 - Rumors, Secrets and every school needs a juvenile delinquent leader.

The dismissal bell had finally rung and those who had won the battle of struggling to stay awake for the last period threw their arms into the air in relief and joy, all forms of fatigue miraculously gone in an instant. Those who had lost and surrendered at the beginning however, were each given an unpleasant wake up call and extra homework. Not that anyone actually cared as punishments and lessons were easily forgotten as though the past seven hours of so called ’school’ never did happen. Like clockwork, the entire classroom was emptied within 5 minutes by those who refused to tolerate staying in the room that sucks away their youth for hours on ends. That basically means everyone.

Two friends, like everyone else, were now heading down the corridor and eager in leaving the entire school campus to find a life. They chattered and gossip, like what most girls in the school would do. Naturally, mediocre and mundane gossip about teachers, exchange students and cafeteria food were nothing compared to the latest rumors that were floating about.

“I heard the teachers appointed spies to find out who the bancho is.”

”Bancho?! Isn’t that title a little off?”

“I think it fits; I heard that he beats up those who disrespects him. He’s like a martial artist or something”

“I wonder why the people he attacked never seem to rat him out.”

“But how are you so sure the Bancho’s a he? Could be a hot babe.”

“Is that all you ever think of? But anyway, I can’t wait till they reveal who he or she is.”

“Who do you think he is anyway? Uhm… or she?”

Among the duo, one of them started to laugh out loud as she passes by the commotion, taking the chance to ‘accidentally’ listen in to the rather loud conversation from the bunch that was huddled in one corner for gossip time.

“You know, these rumors are starting to get out of hand. Shouldn’t you stop them?” She turned to her companion, giggling all girly-like because there’s an inside joke between them.

“What for? It’s not like this has anything to do with me.” The other pushed away her short fringe and smiled with her eyes rolling up.

“Yeah right! I know you’re gloating on the inside, aren’t you, Nee-san?” The younger girl smirked knowingly and latched herself to the other’s free arm.

“Maybe, maybe not.”

The elder’s tracks were suddenly interrupted by a passing shadow, causing her friend to nearly trip over in surprise. Completely unexpected, a student scrambled towards the crowd and shuffled through it in search of someone. Many wasted no time in giving him irritated glares. Even with the distance that separated the girl from the group, she could hear the boy’s panic.

“Tanaka-chan! They…” He started to pant in an exaggerated manner, “They got her! Kamei-sempai’s in trouble!”

At the end of his sentence, he received a smack over the head from a math textbook and fire in his classmate’s eyes.

“How many times must I tell you about calling me that?”

“I-I’m sorry Tanaka-sama…” He got another smack. “T-T-T-Tanaka-san! Please hurry!”

“Where’s she?”

“Downstairs, in the science la- Ooff!”

Shoving the poor boy aside and at the same time passing her book and bag to him to carry, Tanaka practically flew down the stairs in rage. No one messes with her friends after all, though she was more annoyed with having to be pulled out of some interesting stories.

Back to the two girls who had been discussing about the recent gossip until the unannounced diversion, the younger of them both raised a curious eyebrow and smiled a mischievous smile. She tugged at the other’s sleeve.

“Nee-san, that girl…” She started with a serious face.

“Yeah, what about her?” The other asked while looking at the direction that Tanaka ran off to.

“She’s feisty…” She continued without flinching. “… Maybe she’s the Bancho.” A grin started to form. But at the end of her sentence, she felt a shove on her shoulder. She yelped and pouted at her senior with an accusing look.

“What was that for?!”

“Don’t you know that walls have ears? Don’t go around saying such things so easily.” The older one scolded in a whisper. “And you and I know she’s definitely not this so called Bancho.”

“Hai hai~ But let’s go see what’s happening at the science lab anyway, sounds like fun.”

She quickly changes the topic and began to hop up and down, growing excited by the minute. The bouncy girl then took her friend’s hand and pulled her towards the stairs. The elder gave in easily and followed, sighing as she resigns to her fate of being dragged around.

When they’ve arrived, there was another group gathering by the corner. It seems like they were also keeping their distance from the main culprits. There was a senior boy sitting on a chair that was tilted against a closet, serving as something to stop the door from being opened. Beside him were two unnamed and insignificant figures.

“I said, let her out.” Tanaka stood in front of three boys with her arms folded, frowning deeply. The boy that reported to her before finally caught up and was standing timidly by her side.

“Aw, stay out of this and let us have our fun.”

“Fun? You call keeping my friend in a prop closet fun?!”

“Of course, I want to see how they’re going to come out of the closet.”

The guy Tanaka spoke to made an innuendo, and together with his posse, they started to laugh like pigs. Tanaka frowned even more, truly disgusted. But it struck her; that little information from his words. ‘Them?’ Who’s ‘Them’?! She hoped those jerks didn’t throw in some pervert to bother her friend.

“Tanakacchi, is that you?” A voice echoed from inside the closet, followed by a whimper when one of the guy’s lackeys kicked his heel against the door. The voice itself wasn’t unfamiliar, but it definitely didn’t belong to a certain timid girl she knew. It sounded a little embarrassed and guilty. It does beats having a pervert in there any day though.

“What do they mean by coming out of the closet?” came another voice. THIS one was definitely from her timid senpai. The question was so innocent that Tanaka Reina wanted to bang her head on the nearest solid object.

“Are you letting them go, or not? I can wait here all day until you say yes.” She quickly composed herself and glared at the trio’s leader menacingly.

“Wow, she has guts.” The bouncy girl form earlier whispered to her companion, earning a nod of agreement.

“And what if I don’t?”

Reina felt her eyebrow twitch violently, along with her hand.

“I’m not going to say it again. Are you letting Eri out, or not?”

“No.”

Enough was honestly, enough. Reina had lost her patience and without further consideration, she snapped her arm towards the revolting boy, sending the object she happens to have been gripping onto towards him as well – it was an unused desk. There was a sharp screech and everyone that weren’t involved jumped back on reflex. Yet the crash that everyone was waiting for never came. The leader had stopped the chair with his foot. His triumphant smirk only annoyed Reina more.

“Round one, fight.” Someone playfully whispered in the audience, and the two stars of the day gladly obliged.

It's interesting how people have the tendency to assume that the leader of a delinquent gang is a boy.

Eri's in trouble?!?!? Who? What? Why?

Eep...don't make the mistake of using the wrong honorific with Reina. :O

Exactly. Being yankii doesn't automatically mean Reina's the Bancho...though I think these two would do well to should keep their options open.

Well of course they're going to want to go watch. :P

Oh...don't tell me...Eri's in the closet.

How THEY'RE going to come out of the closet? Who's in there with Eri (and exactly how big is that closet)?

Eyebrow twitching is never a good sign.

Something tells me that in the next chapter we're going to find out why this story has the title that it has. ;D

Risa's in that closet too!! Lol. And Eri sounds like she doesn't want to come out XD

I can't wait to see how Reina's gonna snap the neck of that poor clueless person. Doesn't he know not to mess with the great yankii one :P

Are the 2 gossiping girls gonna have any significant roles? If yes I wonder who they are.

Hah, major OCCness 8<

Chapter 2 - The bipolar bunny's not as airheaded as she looks.

The confrontation was now heated up and ready to blow. Everyone backed up from the two in fear and excitement. Reina was standing calmly, leaning against a chair like how she’d been since she first came in. The desk that accompanied it was already long gone. Her opponent was equally calm, his right heel now resting against the desk that he had successfully stopped.

“Last chance, open that door.”

“Make me.”

Reina surprised the crowd by suddenly flinging the chair towards the boy without warning, sending the item spinning wildly in his direction. He however, wasn’t amused and as suddenly as the offense came, he kicked his heel against the desk, which allowed him to propel himself up, landing perfectly on top of the desk. Quickly, he leaped up again and gave the chair a kick to the right with the instep of his left feet as though it was a soccer ball, detouring it from it’s initial destination.

The crowd separated into two as the chair was sent their way. Some screamed when the chair broke upon impact with the wall. The audience was silence, in awe and in shock.

“Nee-san… he’s a fighter!” The younger of the still unnamed duo whispered happily.

“I know. This match seems predictable already.”

“No, she can’t lose! That guy’s a jerk.” She huffed, trying her best to look angry. She failed, naturally.

“Let’s just watch.” She pats the younger on the shoulder, all this time not bothering to actually look at her.

She observed the two, each who have already displayed their first move. The senior boy was obviously skilled to be able to pull off a stunt like that. She admired the strength in his legs, and his reflexes. The girl, Reina, however, brute strength is not going to take her anywhere in this round. Still, that much strength in such a small built was amazing.

“Hmm… You’re good.” Reina hummed, not the least intimidated by the other’s skills.

“You’re killing my fun.” He looked down on her while stretching his legs with ease.

Agitated again, Reina ran up towards him at light speed and kicked off the ground until she was in the air at eye level with the boy, catching him by surprise. Smirking, she took him by surprise by grabbing his collar and pulling him downwards, doing a leap frog move in the process and once she was above him, she kicked him in the back and sent him diving headfirst towards the ground. She took over the position on the desk now and adjusted her uniform skirt.

“Hah, predictable my –“ The spunky girl got a nudge to her side by her ‘nee-san’; cutting away any profanity she was about to use. The crowd they were in cheered. They were more hyped up over the fact that someone’s finally gotten hurt.

Reina ignored the boy who was slowly recovering on the ground and got down from the desk. Unlike her earlier displays, she used her hands and gently removed the chair from the closet. When that’s done, she opened the door.

Inside, two girls were huddled up together. Kamei Eri had her face buried in the other’s sleeve, and the older of the two could only smile sheepishly when light shone down on her face. Reina sighed, wondering how she got acquainted with them both. Carefully, she helped them both up out of the closet.

“Reina~!!” Eri wailed and pounced on the shorter girl before she even came out, glad that someone came to her rescue.

“It’s fine now, they’re not going to bully you again.” The aggressive girl from earlier was a completely different person now and comforted her friend by stroking her back, holding her protectively.

“And they want us to come out of the closet!? Jeez, talk about picking the wrong people.” The third person crawled out from closet ranting non-stop, trying to ignore the display of affection above her.

“Well, I guess the show’s over.” The older of the duo that had been watching all along spoke up and turned on her heels to leave, but her friend decided otherwise. She slapped her palm against her forehead when she heard the familiar squeal.

“That move, it’s so cool. Where’d you learn it from?! Can you teach me?! ”

“Huh? Who’re you?” Reina turned to the sudden intruder, raising her eyebrow in question.

“Me? I’m Mi-“ Suddenly, for no clear reason, her body snapped to the side and her leg rose up, about to do a high backwards roundhouse kick but her foot stopped right beside the offender’s ears. “Michishige Sayumi.”

After completing her short introduction, she turned her head back to look at someone straight in the eye, daggers behind those cute innocent orbs she has. She was looking at the same guy that Reina had put down earlier.

“Never interrupt someone when she’s speaking.” She warned, observing the guy who was actually in a stance for attacking rather than just standing there and admitting defeat.

“S-sugoii! Gaki-san, Gaki-san! Did you see that?!” Eri exclaimed, although she was still hiding behind Reina’s shoulder, there was amazement in her eyes. Niigaki Risa could only gap at what just happened.

“What the…?” Reina on the other hand looked at Sayumi with a skeptical face for a second before facing the enraged boy.

“The fight’s not over!” His pride insisted, but he was also afraid of the kick that was ready to strike at anytime. The fear in him was a lot more evident than the guts he was trying to show.

“What fight? I’ve already done what I’m here to do – release my friends from the closet and save the day.” Reina clarified proudly, evading the need to be modest.

And then it clicked to everyone. He had been lured away from his seat to give Reina a chance to open the closet. The fight was never official.

“You cheat! You’re not running away that easily!” He wanted to charge forward but changed his mind when he felt something land lightly on his shoulder, like a teaser.

“Listen here, I didn’t agree to any fight, so I’m out of here. Come on Eri.”

Reina pulled her friend away by the hand and headed out of the door, but not before glancing at Sayumi once more.

“Seems like there’s no need to teach you anything.”

She commented on Sayumi’s earlier display with a straight face and continued to make her way out. Risa finally snapped back to reality and closed her mouth immediately, scrambling forward to catch up with the other two. When she was about to leave the room, she happened to meet Sayumi’s companion’s eye and smiled awkwardly. The other nodded a greeting and smiled back.

“Tsk, you should learn to be more of a gentleman and back off when a girl says no.” Sayumi rolled her eyes at the boy and kicked him lightly in the ear before retracting her leg. Even though it was a ‘light’ attack, he was still sent sprawling to the ground clutching his ear in pain. She then pouted, disappointed that Reina paid her so little attention.

“Sayu! That wasn’t necessary.” Her senior finally stepped in to interfere, pulling the bi-polar girl away.

“But he was being stupid!" Sayumi whined, pointing fingers at the assaulted boy. "Anyway, forget about him. Did you see that? That girl was amazing, and smart! AND COOL!”

“Are you being sarcastic?” She looked at Sayumi with a strange expression, “You’ve never praised anyone unless it’s your own reflection.”

“Hmph, and your point being? Nevermind, don't answer that. Say, Nee-san, think she’s cut out to be the next Bancho?”

“Great, even YOU are using that word now?” The elder groaned.

“It does sound great though.” Sayumi grinned, “So, what do you think?”

“It’s a horrible title.”

“Not that, I mean what about Tanaka being the next?”

“Only if she comes out top in the tournament next month… Oh no... no, Sayu! You’re not going to drag in some random person!” The senior freaked and grabbed Sayumi by the shoulders.

“Hey, she’s not random, she has skills. You know that too.” She shrugged and escaped from the vice-like grip. "She'll fit right in, maybe even win."

“But… You… What am I ever going to do with you?” The elder girl sighed, burying her face in her palms. Sayumi stuck her tongue out cutely.

“You, no, We, can start by digging up her student profile.”

Having the strength is one thing, it's another to be able to use it well.

Wait a sec...so, there's actually no Bancho right now, or are they in the process of selecting a new one?

And how/why exactly do Sayu and (presumably) Aichan know about this tournament and why is Sayu talking about bringing Reina to it? :o

*in a hotel stealing internetz from some building next door :3*

I just wanted to make Sayu kickass <3 so there.
I'll try to keep them in character and be awesome at the same time lol

There is a 'Bancho' :D but the question is... who.
Why bring Reina into the tournament? Because she has skillz and because Sayu wants her to.

Okay, one more girl to bring in and we've the whole main cast.

Hmm.. GakiKame, KameShige, TanaKame, TanaGaki (o.o) or TakaGaki.. *wanders off in deep though* Maybe I'll pull an EriJun LOL. Or nobody at all. :O

gud thing u didn't add any cheesy lines like "Your gettin' on my nerves" or "It's not that I wanted too".....otherwise it'd be like Sukeban Deka.... :luvluv1: *sigh* Ayaya-chan

I love all your reviews ^___^

Chapter 3 - Roommates, bruises, and a chapter that doesn't answer anything.

From the entrance of the dormitory, you might be able to hear certain howling coming from upstairs. You might run, or maybe venture farther. There’s only one choice for you in reality. It’s late now, there’s no one around. The lights have been turned off about an hour ago, because lights off are always punctual, unlike you. Knowing that you’re way passed curfew, you crept upstairs and headed past the room your classmates shared. You heard howling again; much louder than before. Freaked out, you zoomed back into your room at record speed. That’s what you get for breaking the rules.

“Ooooowwww…” Once more, from the source itself, the cry came out no different from an animal dying.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry!!” The roommate repeated again and again, but her actions never changed. She continued giving the other physical and mental torture, all this while oblivious to it.

“KAME! BE GENTLE!!” The other screamed, trying to pull away from the younger girl who in turn held a firm grip on her arm so that she wouldn’t fly off.

“I am! I am, stay still!” Eri tugged at the other’s arm and pressed hard against her bruise.

“You’re giving me more bruises!” She took the closest object she could find and flung it towards Eri to have her let go. In this case, it was an ointment bottle.

“Gaki-san! That hurts!” Eri indeed released her hold on Risa and rubbed her forehead, a lump forming slowly right in the center.

“That hurts?! This hurts!” She pointed to her own bruises, growling at Eri and showing off her teeth.

“The bruise won’t disperse if I don’t press hard enough you know.” Eri backed herself up with logic and deliberately squeezed Risa’s bruised arm.

“WAAAHHH!” Risa screamed again, jumping up from her bed and falling on the ground behind her.

Suddenly, they both heard a knock on the door. Risa whose body was now all weak and jelly-like from the painful shock earlier managed to crawl up and peek out from the edge of the bed. Eri quickly placed a finger to her lips, going ‘shhh’ at her roommate. Gapping at the gesture, Risa rolled her eyes. It wasn’t her fault for making so much noise, she thought.

After a minute or two of waiting, they could hear footsteps passing. Both girls let out the breath that they had been holding. They don’t understand why the dorm mistress has to always come around to check if everyone was asleep yet. It’s not like they were still kids.

“She’s gone. Now… where was I?” Eri took hold of the bottle and faced Risa.

“No… go away… Obaa-chan!!” Risa cried as her best friend jumped her from behind, sitting right on her bum.

. . .

“There, all done.” Eri wiped her hands on a tissue and got off Risa after patting her on the behind once.

“I feel completely violated.” Risa murmured, crawling forward to huddle against the wall and smelling horrible. Her hair was a mess from the struggle and her pajama shirt was sliding off her shoulder.

“You’ll thank me one day.”

“Not for this I’m not. By the way, don’t tell Tanakacchi about it.” Risa pulled up her shirt and got up on the bed beside her roommate’s.

“About what?” Eri asked, already blissfully tucked under her blanket.

“About what happened this afternoon, and the bruises.”

“Oh. About how you ran away but was too slow and got us both in the closet?” Eri laughed, which was muffled by her blanket.

“Quiet!” Risa yelled, blushing. “It’s not like I didn’t trying fighting back. We were outnumbered. You were there under me when I got beaten up!”

“I was just joking. If Reina knew the truth, she’d permanently disable those guys.”

“That’s why I’m worried. She doesn’t need another week of detention.”

“She just got out of one recently, right? It’s your fault to begin with, you’re the one who taught her how to fight.”

“What? Who was the one that went ‘just humor her, she’ll find it too tough and give up after awhile’ Huh? And who’s the one always in trouble in need of someone's help because she looks like a pushover and refuses to lift a finger to save herself?”

“It’s still your fault.”

“No it’s not! And we’ve got to stop this. We’re starting to sound like her parents.”

“You’re right. Still, ‘Otou-san’ shouldn’t have taught our precious daughter the way of combat.” Eri shook her head disappointedly. Irritated, Risa threw a pillow her way, which landed straight in her face.

“Shut up! That kid really likes you. I don’t want to be murdered by her out of jealousy if she heard that.”

“Romantic, isn’t it?” Eri mused, “Fighting for the sake of love.”

“You’re way too weird, Kame. I’m not talking to you anymore.”

“You’re so mean!”

“Shut up.” Risa got up to turn off the light and returned to bed.

The room was in complete silence for what seemed like a very, very long time.

“Gaki-san?” Eri suddenly spoke.

“Yeah?” Came a response from beside her.

“Thanks for protecting me all the time.”

“Don’t bother. It’s a favor I’m doing for Tanakacchi. Now go to bed.” Eri knew her roommate was smiling in the dark from the sound of her voice.

5 minutes later…

“Gaki-san?” Eri called out again.

“Hmm?” Already half way into the land of the dreaming, Risa hummed a response.

“What does ‘coming out of the closet mean’?”

The reply Eri wanted never came, but she felt her mattress tilt over and herself rolling off the bed. There was a scream, a rather loud crash and a satisfied grin on a particular brat’s face. Actions really do speak louder than words.

this new chapter really is funny with kamei and niigaki interaction...
but there's things I think I'm not getting...
for example, reina likes kamei, but does kamei like her back? and niigaki teached reina how to fight, but apparently reina's stronger, cause she defeated all those guys and all niigaki did was earn some bruises... XD
and I must say I'm really looking forward to learn more about Reina and some of the other characters, like Sayumi... she looks like a good fighter, which is weird when you think of her "ichiban kawaii" personality...there has to be some story behind this!

From the entrance of the dormitory, you might be able to hear certain howling coming from upstairs.
Howling?

“KAME! BE GENTLE!!” The other screamed, trying to pull away from the younger girl who in turn held a firm grip on her arm so that she wouldn’t fly off.
Eeeeeeeeeeeh? :w00t:

don’t tell Tanakacchi about it.” Risa pulled up her shirt and got up on the bed beside her roommate’s.

“About what?” Eri asked, already blissfully tucked under her blanket.

“About what happened this afternoon, and the bruises.
Actually, we still don't know how they got in the closet in the first place. :dunno:

It’s not like I didn’t trying fighting back. We were outnumbered. You were there under me when I got beaten up!”

“I was just joking. If Reina knew the truth, she’d permanently disable those guys.”
Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa? Risa was being beaten up?!?!?! :OMG:

“That’s why I’m worried. She doesn’t need another week of detention.”

“She just got out of one recently, right? It’s your fault to begin with, you’re the one who taught her how to fight.”
Wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait wait...it was RISA that taught Reina how to fight???

So then how was it that Risa wasn't kickin' those guys' asses herself?

So just so that things are clear, Eri was just cleaning and dressing Risa's bruises/wounds, right? :?

so Gaki is the one who taught Reina how to fight , i wonder what would happen when Aichan (well and Sayu) will find out, will she be a candidate for the Bancho?

YAY!!! You managed to update even when miles away. I really liked this chapter. Anything with TakaGaki or/and KameMame I like. I can't help it :D

From what I've gathered so far, Reina likes Eri, Gaki doesn't like Eri (in that way) and Sayu and Ai aren't going that way either. So it leaves the possibility of

a) Tanakamei
b) TakaGaki
c) KameiShige
d) GakiShige
e) ReinaShige
f) None of the above :P

Which is it? I need to know!!!!! *echoes* XD

I came back last Friday ^^ Singapore feels so foreign suddenly ;_;
@lil_hamz: Well, someone is bound to end up alone... maybe  but I wouldn't say that those are the only options either.
Maybe I'll end up with option F when things get too complicated xD

I'm definitely lost with my own storyline.

Chapter 4 - The Invitation

Risa wandered the school grounds alone. Reina was off for dance practice and Eri was doing what students do -- studying. Maybe she should study too… wait, scratch that. It was a preposterous idea! She kicked away a can of cola that was left stranded in the hallway. Maybe she could drop Reina a visit! The girl was only at the abandoned dance studio behind the school. Then again, she gripped her sore arm and changed her mind.

Keeping her thoughts out of reality, Risa hasn’t been watching where she was going. She surprised herself by bumping into someone, or something. Whatever it was, it had a really hard built. She winced and looked forward to see white cloth, and then she raised her head to see an upset face with a brace on the person’s neck.

“You!” They both shouted in unison.

“What do you want?” Risa spat.

“Where’s your closet friend?” The other smirked.

“Just leave me alone.”

“You think I would really do that?” He growled, looking down at Risa.

“Well, what do you want?” Risa looked at him impatiently.

“Nothing, nothing.” He changed drastically and smiled slyly. “I was told to look for you, so don’t come snapping at me. This is for you.” He pulled out a small envelope from his back pocket and held it out to Risa.

“What’s this?” She looked at the enveloped with caution.

“Something you might be interested in. You may have turned me down that day for whatever reason, but you can’t expect my little payback to be enough to forget about it, would you?”

“I still don’t know what you’re saying,” Risa diverted her eyes, “But I’ve said no then and I won’t change my mind now.”

“Oh, but I think you might have to reconsider after you read this.” He slips the envelope into Risa’s blouse pocket carefully, “That challenge still stands, against you.” With that, he brushed shoulders with the girl and disappeared down the hallway.

Gritting her teeth, Risa pulled the envelope out and gingerly picked at the sealed part. She was certain that her answers would be inside.

That day, it was less than a week ago. School was just over and she had been catching up with her best friend until a group of rowdy boys decide to interrupt them.

“Niigaki Risa, am I right?” A boy with a nasal voice demanded.

Risa wasn’t sure to laugh or deny, but she nodded anyway.

“We request a duel.”

“What are you blabbering about?”

“Are you playing dumb? Our boss would like to challenge you, this evening.”

“Gaki-san, this isn’t good, you-“ Eri whispered nervously.

“Shhh.” Risa held up her hand to stop the other from going on. “I’m sorry, but I think you’ve found the wrong person.”

“No, I think I’m right.” A taller boy of a stronger built entered the scene from behind his lackeys. “You don’t know me, but we’re related, in a way.”

She paused her flashback for a second when she realized that she had exerted more strength than needed and had torn the seal into half. Risa did a face and continued to open what remains closed.

“Related? Whatever, you’ve got the wrong person and I’m not going to play along with your weird ‘challenge’.” Risa shrugged and turned around to head the other way with Eri following closely behind.

“I will have my way, however it takes.”

His lackeys started to advance towards the two girls. Sensing danger, Risa grabbed Eri by the hand and bolted for the nearest exit. She did manage to shove some guys away when they got too close. The mob chased the girls until they finally cornered her to the end of the hallway.

“If you won’t fight, I’ll just have to make you.”

The first fist went straight for the innocent, and without thinking, Risa quickly shielded her best friend with her own body. She received some kicks and punches but she managed to tolerate the hurt. Most of the attacks went to her shoulders, arms and torso. Along with some unmentioned injuries, Risa had to give in and she passed out.

“Let’s throw them into the closet, humiliate them a little.”

When she next woke up, she was in the dark with someone clutching tightly to her.

“K-kame? Is that you?”

“Gaki-san? You’re awake! Thank God… I was afraid you went down permanently this time.”

“Take that back, I’m still alive and kicking. Where are we?”

“A closet…”

“A CLOSET?!” Risa yelled, earning a kick from the outside asking her to shut up. After awhile, there was a big commotion starting on the outside. Everything else was just pure guesses and speculations until Reina came to free them.

“Reconsider? Yeah right…” Risa got fed up with being thorough with opening an envelope and swiftly, she tore the edge away and pulled the letter within out.

“This is…?” Risa widened her eyes in horror. “No… If they had him pass it to me, that means he’s from… But… I…” Completely taken aback by the letter, she unconsciously dropped the envelope and started to stutter. She needed to find Eri, there’s no one else she could turn to about it. The letter was crushed under her grip as she shuffled through the crowd of students heading for their next period.

During her haste, she accidentally bumped into someone. Papers flew up into the air, but Risa was oblivious to it as she marched onward. The crowd parted from the mess.

“Itai!” A girl winced when she felt something crash into her. She had lost balance and fell over, dropping her belongings as well. When she looked back up, the person who had run into her was already long gone.

She quickly composed herself and scrambled about on the floor to gather her fallen pieces of paper. Once that was done, she hurried downstairs and went through a ‘council only’ door.

“Nee-san!” Her bouncy junior greeted her the instant she sets foot into the room.

“I’ve got what you wanted.” She answered the other and browsed through her folder for some documents.

“You can show me that later. It’s here! They’ve started sending it.” The other exclaimed excitedly, causing her to almost drop her stuff for the second time.

“Already? Sayu, where is it?” She settled the file down on her desk and urged her junior to show her what’s apparently very important.

Sayumi paused for a second before pulling out an envelope from her bag. It was already opened as she took out the letter within and started to read it.

“Takahashi Ai-san, we are honored to welcome you back to the 10th annual Junshuu Tournament.”

Ai frowned at the mention of the event.

“The event would take place on the last Friday of the following month. More details would be sent on the day before. We wish you good luck.”

Sayumi finishes the last line and hands the paper over to Ai for further confirmation. “Well, that is a waste of paper.”

“You think?” Ai shrugged and crushed the paper under her hands. “We have to start preparing.”

“But I haven’t managed to get that girl into the tournament yet!”

“It’s not easy to get a completely unrelated person into an event like this, Sayu. Give it up, you’ll need a miracle for someone to want to place their life on the line for some stupid competition.”

“Nee-san…” Sayumi pleaded, always have been unaware of her own selfishness.

“Miracles, Sayu, that’s all there is you can hope for.” Ai sighed and handed her the student profile she had so painstakingly snooped for earlier.

“I can’t believe you wouldn’t help me.”

“I don’t see why you’re so determined to get her into trouble.”

”I’m not! It’s just… she seems capable enough to replace you… and…”

“You have my interest at heart? Is that it?”

“Maybe. You don’t seem to like your duty at all… so I thought…”

“I know. Just don’t get yourself into trouble over this, okay?”

“Fine. You’re like my older sister, how can I not obey?” Sayumi frowned and sat down on the couch that the room had.

“Good.” Ai pats her friend on the shoulder and left the room.

“Hm, I’ll just do things without getting into trouble then.” Sayumi smirked and opened the profile she was given earlier.

Note the "welcome back". Apparently this isn't the first time Ai has been in that thing. And then there's what Sayu said...

Quote
”I’m not! It’s just… she seems capable enough to replace you… and…”

Talking about replacing means that Ai is already in some sort of a position. Could she be the Bansho? But somehow my gut says no. She's important, yes, but in some other capacity, that's what my instinct's telling me. Of course, I could be wrong, but who knows?

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Reina was off for dance practice

Explains the nice footwork for her fighting style. But a gangster has to know how to dance, eh? :cool1:

“Something you might be interested in. You may have turned me down that day for whatever reason, but you can’t expect my little payback to be enough to forget about it, would you?”

So, Gaki-san could've defended herself actually......just that she didn't want Kamei to get involved....makes sense... :dozing:

My vocabulary died here, as did my plot ideas =A=

Chapter 5 - Step by step, one two step.

Junshuu Tournament in one and half month.
Got invited. Keep it from Tanakacchi.
Stop your studying and come back to the dorm, PRONTO!
-Risa

Eri frowned at the mail she had just received. Mostly at her best friend’s attempt of making her point straightforward and then there was the issue with the tournament. She thought that life would’ve been easier since last year’s mishap. As instructed, Eri quickly packed her books and returned to her shared dormitory room. Before she left, she sent a quick mail to someone else.

- - -

Reina was with her duffle bag in one hand and the other holding on to her cellphone. While waiting for her company, she happened to see Risa rushing off towards the dormitory. At first wanting to catch up and greet her senior, she soon changed her mind when her belongings promptly made her lazy.

Her phone’s mail alert went off suddenly.

I’m sorry Reina-chan, something important came up. Please forgive me, or I’d cook something for dinner instead.
-Eri

“Isn’t she supposed to be pleading for forgiveness instead of threatening?” Reina stared at the message and gradually began to frown, feeling completely disappointed. When she looked up from her phone again, she saw Eri rushing towards the dormitory as well and soon placed two and two together. She sighed heavily and dragged herself away from where she stood.

“What’s this? Is she upset?” Sayumi whispered to herself and wondered. She had been hiding behind a pillar all day while keeping an eye on Reina’s every move and expression. Noticing that Reina was leaving, she stealthily began to stalk the younger girl.

The girl in front of her was different from what she had in mind since they first met. No confidence, no intimidation, Reina appeared just like a normal adolescent and she was despondent and kicking cans and pebbles that obstructed her way. Sayumi on the other hand was growing tired…

She had slipped behind a thrash can when Reina first turned around with suspicion.

She had dived into a bush in a panic when Reina only bent over to fix her shoelace.

She had also bruised her forehead when Reina sneezed, since her first reaction was to hide behind the first large object she sees the moment the other girl had any unusual movement. Rather than rushing behind a lamppost then, Sayumi ran headfirst into it.

Finally, she bought a magazine specially to cover her face while walking behind her target. She was sick of hiding behind, or inside things.

“Hmm…” Reina hummed, having a hunch of being followed again and stopped, noticing a shadow coming up from behind her, which she had expected to come up if her intuition was right. She steadied her footing and waited. As predicted, something large rammed into her from behind and then she smirked at the surprised yelp. It feels good to be right.

“… Shit!” Sayumi cried at the impact and pulled down the magazine from her face. Realizing whom she had bumped into while she was pretending to read the magazine, she quickly dropped the object and was ready to bolt.

“Running away, are we?” Reina started and reached back to grab her stalker by the left shoulder. She was pretty sure a person wouldn’t run if it were just an incident or her being oversensitive. Either way, she wants to know why she was being followed.

On instinct, Sayumi immediately straightened her arm and moved forward, easily sliding out of Reina’s grip. Unfortunately for her, the latter was alert and tightened her hold as it nearly releases at the elder’s wrist. She pulled Sayumi towards her, intending to lock the girl’s arm behind her back.

Feeling herself stumbling back and about to trip over her own feet, Sayumi used some quick thinking and adjusted to the momentum Reina had to save herself from falling. When they were closed enough, Sayumi attempted to knock Reina off her feet with her back but once again being countered, Reina took a stride back and took charge of the situation.

As Reina stepped back and their arms stretching out to it’s full length, she managed to turn her opponent around in the process and they were now facing perpendicular to each other, Reina’s right hand having a vice grip on the elder’s left wrist. Sayumi immediately cursed under her breath for her clumsy counters, at the same time irritated by these never before experienced moves from the other. She felt like she was being led along in a dance.

Before anything else could happen, Reina smirked and pulled the older girl towards her, grinning in triumph as she watches the other stumble forward. Sayumi screamed until she fell against Reina feeling her seized arm bend to the back painfully and fingers wrapping tightly against her right elbow.

Tears of pain in her eyes, Sayumi peeked open her eye to find herself face to face with her supposed target, so close she could see the girl’s canines showing proudly. She shifted her eyes up and down and could only see the pale skin of the younger’s face and her facial organs clearly. Being this close in proximity with someone for the first time, Sayumi blushed in embarrassment and anger.

“Ow, let go! You’re hurting me.” Sayumi finally spoke up when she knows that she’s caught and trapped. Reina frowned in annoyance and turned her head to avoid the spit that might just land on her face any second now… but on second thought, a wet face is probably better than turning deaf from being yelled at directly in the ear.

“Just who are you and why were you stalking me?!” Reina yelled back, “I know you were stalking me!” She eyed the girl suspiciously with a piercing gaze.

Sayumi was sure to keep her face as far away from the younger girl as possibly least accidents happen. She gasped at the question and pouted, “You’re so rude!” She turned her head away with her chin pointing up, refusing to answer Reina’s question.

“Me? Rude?! I'll show you rude!” Reina growled at the person she held unwillingly close to herself.

The girls stood there intimately to any watcher’s eye, but they were like a bomb ready to blow. One wouldn’t say a word until she has an apology and the other was so very close to breaking the arm she was gripping on to. So much for not getting into trouble...

Knowing Sayu, she'd better be careful of how closely she follows her. No way to know how Reina would react if she caught her following her.

Wow. This is fun. I was thinking of story something like this as well XD.. Hmmm... a tournament. Is it like some kind of a Fight Club?? I'm starting to think of a chain love interest in this story; Reina - Eri - Gaki - Ai - Sayumi - Reina. But of course, some don't show any sign and Ai - Sayumi is a bit awkward. They only show sister love :P . Looking forward for more. Good work!! :D :D

It was suppose to extend into a gakikame scene, but it'll probably take another week or two if I went on, so Aichan takes the chapter.

Chapter 6 – Why do cheaters exist?

Ueno Zoo (because Tokyo Tower is too expensive for a student constantly needing a good place to think), a week after everyone was given plans for the next month and a half, probably less. Preparations spared them no time to be counting down after all, or at least throwing them into a nervous wreck took their mind off the upcoming event anyway. Details were vague, locations were assigned by random, opponents were kept anonymous and life would be grand if they weren't on the edge of their seat with anticipation.

Takahashi Ai threw a breadcrumb into the duck pond, wondering where all the ducks were. While in thought, she unconsciously began to eat the crumbled loaf of bread as well. Maybe the ducks were all sleeping, but who could sleep in such a nice weather? She seriously hoped they weren’t avoiding her, as the speculation itself made her sad. Why was she thinking about ducks anyway?? Sometimes she simply has no clue about herself.

She gingerly tasted the sandy texture of the bread and frowned, feeling bored and maybe a little restless. Sayumi had earlier left her to her own devices almost immediately after school with the excuse of doing a ‘project’ but Ai knew very well that it wasn’t really that. She herself kept track of Sayumi’s homework, for the sake of the girl’s academic survival in the school.

“She’s probably off pestering that girl, whatever her name was.”

Those two did nothing but reminded her of an event from a year ago, give or take a few weeks from the same date as today. It was close to midnight then, and she was in this very zoo after hours. How she came in was… unimportant to reveal.

As mentioned, it was almost twelve on that fateful night in a particular month with a beautiful full moon. Ai sat on the very same bench, waiting as instructed. What she anticipated for never did come, but a commotion downhill definitely caught her attention. Carefully, she headed towards what was going on. Past the penguins and the bears and some more animals that were trying to distract her with their cuteness. When she had finally found her place, she hid behind a signboard to observe.

Right smack in the center of open grounds, two people were fighting furiously and neither seemed too keen on stopping. There was obviously a large man involved, and someone else of a much smaller stature. The man however wasn’t all that he seems to be when he was struck in the head by the other’s shin and another in the abdomen when he landed on the ground, causing him to slide a few meters away. Ai was impressed with the amount of strength in such a small built. The man appeared to be considerably weakened from before she had even arrived.

Everything was looking good for the smaller one, until something unmistakable found its way into the scene. Even if it was traveling at light speed, she could recognize it. An explosive sound came from the dark and was aimed straight at the soon to be victor. Ai heard a scream of pain and a loud thump to the ground. Light from a street lamp shone on the figure and her eyes widened in surprise. There was a girl, slumped over in a pool of blood. She wanted to immediately rush to her aid only to hesitate when the girl’s opponent came back with a limp and a laugh.

“What do you know…” He was slowly regaining his energy. With what strength he had left, he took the advantage and picked the severely injured girl up by her shirt with his already shaking arms, almost desperate to come out the winner. Ai never felt more disgusted in her whole life after witnessing something as despicable as this. He began assaulting the body like a punching bag repeatedly, no mercy or space for sympathy in his mind.

Everything ended with a drop kick and a body slamming into a lamppost hard enough to dent it.

“Postpone the tournament.” Ai was already on her cellphone, giving a call to certain authorities. “No, I don’t care if the elders are going to flip… Stop the tournament. Now.” She ordered strictly in a whisper. She was young and hardly an adult yet, but her words held more weight to these so-called authorities than any other.

“Anything else?” She repeated what the other line asked. “Yes, look out for a limped participant in the Zoo's vicinity. I know you’re all over the place! Detain the suspect. Shut up, I don’t sound like a police officer!”

She started to argue with her phone, twitching at the giggles of her younger friend from the other line. “Be serious! I got to go.” She looked back up after cutting the line, searching for the two people.

The man was already gone, probably off to meet his next opponent for the night. Unfortunately for him, his cheating efforts were done in vain. Ai was about to check on the assaulted girl but someone had already beaten her to it. Someone was crouched over the body, and she had no idea if that was a friend or foe until she heard crying and begging from the arrival.

”Wake up! Don’t die on me… please.”

She heard fear and anxiety in the other’s voice and figured that she was a friend. Ai knew she shouldn’t be thinking like this, but she decided to leave the two alone, as she trusted the other to be able to handle things well. It was better if she had not exposed herself, considering how suspicious it would be for a girl to be wondering a closed zoo at night. There was also a condition that she must never reveal herself to anyone but the finalist of the tournament. Not about to stay and ponder over organization rules and codes, she turned on her heels and left.

A few days later, she found an article inside the daily papers talking about a school girl being admitted in the hospital half dead and suffering from a bullet wound. There was also something about juvenile delinquents being a bane of society and adults were advised to keep a look out for such adolescents. Due to that incident, there were no results for the previous year’s territorial tournament, which brings Ai back to present day.

It’s been a little less than a year since that day, and she never did find out who that girl was, whether she’s still alive and what ever did happen after that. That was the least of her worries though; she was afraid that the same thing would happen again this year. Everybody wants to be the winner, and there will always be the desperate ones that resort to underhanded means. Sure there are people like the yakuzas taking part, but they knew not to cross the line. Strictly speaking, Takahashi Ai wouldn’t tolerate those who won’t play fair, or quite understand why they wouldn't.

The zoo was almost closing now, and she figured that she had spaced out long enough. After some mental battles with laziness, she stood up to leave.

Wow, whoever's putting on this tournament sure is pulling out all the stops if they're planning on having multiple locations to hold the matches. Normally one would think it'd be simpler to just pick one big venue and have the whole thing done there.

Somehow, that's not surprising at all.

Whoa, so was this just a random fight, or had Aichan bore witness to a match from the previous year's tournament? :O

Gunfire!?!? :o

If this IS a tournament fight that Aichan saw, is the usage of those type of weapons allowed? Seems to me like it would be a cheap way to win.

So it WAS a tournament fight that she saw. Was it just coincidence that she was there? By the sounds of things, it almost sounds like she's supposed to be some sort of witness/observer/official for the tournament. How else could she know the number to phone to call for a pause in it or to detain (and possibly discipline/disqualify) a participant?

One major worry would be that the girl or her friend would/could somehow re-enter the tournament this year in some effort to take down the organizers in an act of vengeance.

Just finished chapter 5 and 6

Chapter 5 was so cute with Sayu the stalker XD I wonder who would win...I get the feeling that Sayu is probably stronger since she spends so much time with Ai chan but who knows in this case. lol I could tell that they are so going to be friends though

as for chapter 6.....woah...

At first I thought the fight was about Sayu..but seeing that Sayu was the one giggling on the phone, I guess it was someone else...doesn't seem like Gaki or Kamei either....or does it... :smoke: darn you for being mysterious (in such a good way XD)

hmm...so Ai chan doesn't like people that don't play fair....*stares at the title* :scared:

I get the feeling the badly-injured one was gaki and kame came to help her. That would explain gaki's reaction when she got the invitation again...

I like the interaction here  arguing with her phone! Of course you sound like a police officer...what 'detain the suspect'...

I worry that the future chapters wouldn't match up with the previous ones :/ I get lost easily after stopping for too long :sweatdrop:

Chapter 7 – Pain and Memories

“Let go of me, I don’t like being so close to people…” The older girl growled, reminding herself that she was close enough to smell Reina’s sweat, of all things, but still, it wasn’t as unpleasant as what she experiences in crowded trains.

“Fat hope Princess, not until I know why you were following me.”

“Why do you say I’m following you? Can’t I just happen to be walking in the same direction?”

“Oh really? Then where are you heading to?”

“Somewhere that is none of your business!” Sayumi started to struggle violently, her movements strong enough to knock Reina over.

“Oi, stop that! We’ll both fall!”

“Then. Let. Go! You bloody pervert.” Reina felt a twitch in her eye and promptly let go, lifting her fist to latch onto the other’s collar.

“Who’re you calling a pervert.”

“You’re going to ruin my blouse!”

“I don’t care.”

“Well, I do!” Struggling to release herself from the tight grip, Sayumi did something she never thought she would ever do except to perverts and sickening individuals. Without further thinking she swung her fist inwards, which worked well in returning her freedom.

Free from the painful grip earlier, Sayumi didn’t pay any more attention to Reina as she runs off down the road and into the dark, leaving the younger girl crouched over on the ground with one eye tearing.

“That… blasted…girl. Her punch is like a gorilla’s.” Reina grumbled, watching her offender’s shadow disappear through one eye. This won’t be the last time they meet, and yelling won’t be the only thing she’ll do when she sees Sayumi again.

“Michishige Sayumi, huh?” Reina allowed the words to roll off her tongue, only now remembering the girl’s name from her very first introduction. She had deliberately refused to acknowledged the other’s identity but now she was glad that they went to the same school.

Just around the corner, Sayumi leaned against the wall panting. She still felt the impact of flesh against her fist; a slight tingling feeling in her knuckles sent her gasping.

“Oh my God, why did I do that?!” She exclaimed, finally realizing that she had long allowed her plans to stray. Furious, Sayumi cursed herself for being stupid and easily distracted. That was her chance, probably her only chance to ever confront the girl and she had let her stubbornness to interfere. Sayumi was quite sure that she can’t go near Reina again now that she knows that the younger was potentially violent and cautious about being followed again.

“Nee-san’s going to kill me if she found out what I did…” She whimpered at the thought while making her way back home, forgetting that she had injured someone.

----

“I’m home~!” Eri finally got back to her room later than intended after some slight interruption earlier. A teacher had requested for her suddenly on her way back and also took up an hour of her time and she now felt terrible for being late.

“Gaki-san? Aye, why’s the room so dark?” She spoke to no one in particular and felt around to find the switch. When the lights were back on, she saw Risa curled on the bed snoring quietly with a piece of paper under her. This really wasn’t the time to be sleeping though.

Eri knelt down beside her best friend and blew on her face. It was terribly hard to hold down her giggles when Risa slapped herself to tame the itch, otherwise not even close to waking up yet.

“Risa~” Eri sang again, patting the other on the shoulder repeatedly. “Wake up, you can’t take naps or you’d never wake up on time tomorrow.”

Treating her roommates’ voice as an irritating buzz, Risa wriggled her nose and sniffed before turning to her other side. Being ignored like that made Eri frown, but she can’t do anything to get her revenge. She couldn’t bear to disturb the girl who was sleeping so darn peacefully. Carefully, she peeled the piece of paper that had plastered itself to Risa’s face off and moved over to her own bed to read it, assuming that it was related to what she wanted to discuss about.

It was pretty much everything a participant needed to know to prepare for the territorial tournament, the same as then, and Eri hated it. Or perhaps hate was too strong of a word…

The machine beeps steadily, and that was the only sound she had been listening to all night. Her eyes were growing heavy, fatigue bruising the bottom of her eyes but she made sure to listen to the beeping attentively.

Eri turns to observe her best friend on the bed, covered in plasters and bandages and looking like a complete wreck. The whole room reeked of bitterness and medicine.

Watching Risa breath steadily, the rising and sinking motion of her chest made Eri’s vision waver and blur. The girl was truly tired, having to fend off the press and deal with the police earlier on behalf of the older girl and her parents. On the second that Eri’s head began to fall forward and submit to sleep, the phone started to vibrate.

“Hello? Kamei Eri here.” She spoke tiredly, before noticing the nervous breathing from the other line.

“S-Senpai! Do you know where is Gaki- I mean, Niigaki-senpai?” The person on the other line replied, careful to sound respectful. She didn’t want the older girl to think of her in any negative light.

“Reina?” Eri addressed her junior, and then she took quick glances at the unconscious Risa. “No, I don’t know where she is…” She lied, wanting to keep the condition of their friend under wraps.

“Damn, I wanted her to help me with something.”

“I see. I’ll tell her when I see her then. Anything else, Reina-chan?”

“Uh, no… Thanks Senpai.”

Once the call ended, Eri rubbed her temples and sighed when there was another interruption at the door. Although she said nothing, the person outside took the initiative and opened the door to enter the room. The person was nobody that Eri knew and they wore a cap to hide their appearance, along with a jacket to hide their gender.

“Can I help you? Are you a friend of Risa’s?” Eri asked, growing worried if by any chance the person before her was here to harm her friend again.

“No, sorry but I think I’ve gotten the wrong room.” The figure spoke, giving away their gender by the feminine tone of her voice. Although she claims to have mistaken her destination, she had been looking in the direction of the patient quite seriously since she set foot in the room. The mysterious girl was observing Risa.

“Oh, then…” Eri on the other hand started to watch the mysterious guest with caution. The other was paying unnecessary attention to her best friend and she didn’t like how uncomfortable that behavior made her feel. “Perhaps you should be on your way?”

Despite Eri’s attempt to sound polite, the person was clear that she was demanded to leave. She pulled her eyes away from the unconscious body and there was a thin smile on her face.

“I should. I apologize for disturbing your friend there.” Turning on her heels, she reached for the door and promptly exited. Eri did not drop her glare until she was sure that the other had left...

“Kame… Kame-chan? Takeaway some takoyaki for me…”

Murmurings snapped Eri out of her flashback and she quickly looked over to where her best friend was. Risa was still asleep with a frown on her face, which quickly turned into a blissful look with drool by the corner of her grinning mouth. Seeing the happy expression made Eri smile as well, until she remembered the paper she held on to.

“Gaki-san, are you really going to take part in this? Again?" Eri whispered even though she knew there won't be a reply, for now.

So Ai will be angry with Sayumi once she finds out what she did with Reina? I don't know why, though... And poor Gaki-san! I think the stranger at the hospital was Ai, but I'm not sure. Keep it up! :)

See Sayu, this is what Aichan meant when she was talking about you "getting in trouble".

WTF Risa was in the hospital? What for? From that description there it doesn't sound like it was pretty.

Well...that was odd. Perhaps a relative or Risa's? From what's written there it's highly suspicious that it was honestly a case of stepping into the wrong room.

...

...

Wait a sec...don't telll me that Risa was somehow involved in last year's tournament, and that her being in the hospital is a result of that?

HOLY CRAP RISA TOOK PART IN THE TOURNAMENT!!! :OMG: Then...it was HER fight that Aichan saw! Aichan was the person that walked into her hospital room!!! :dizzy:

So then, that phone call from Reina in Eri's flashback, perhaps Risa was Reina's training mate?

Heh, it's been 3 months.. or so. I almost forgot about this :P
I hope you guys are still interested in it.

Chapter 8 - Adolescent vs Authority... probably.

Gossip weren’t nice.

’Does she know how ugly that patch makes her look?’

Nor were they ever true.

’I think she has a violent boyfriend. Poor girl!’

Or even flattering, in any case.

’She probably fell into a drain or something. How careless.’

And tolerance doesn’t quite come without a limit.

“Would you guys give it a rest already?!” A really pissed off growl traveled at light speed through the hallway, stunning clique after cliques of meddling young high school students of all size, age and gender.

Satisfied with the silence that immediately followed after her outburst and the scampering of frightened teens, Reina hurried up the stairs and into her classroom, out of sight from the rest of the school’s early population. She was glad that she had sacrificed an hour more of sleep to arrive early for once. Life would have been awfully grand if she had to face the other three quarter of the school that normally arrives on the same hour as her.

“Perfect, there’s no one else in class yet. Figures, I’m not in the most punctual class the school ever had anyway.” Gloating on the inside, she quickly sets down her book bag loudly, and next hoping to catch some sleep before the first period starts.

The moment she sat herself down on her seat, an ear piercing “Iyaaaa~” also identifiable as a scream of disbelief echoed into the classroom. Horrified by the cry, Reina jumped from her seat and reflexively turned her head towards the front entrance.

There, at the doorway was one girl she would hate to see at this hour of the morning, and already that emotion in her was struggling not to influence her body into immediately lunging at the girl with black hair tied up into two pigtails with both hands latched to the lower half of her face. The words regret was –figuratively speaking- written on the exposed forehead of Sayumi, Reina was sure she remembered the girl’s name this time.

“How careless of me!” Sayumi laughed nervously, pretending to be a stranger.

“Oh really?” Reina looked on with suspicion, murmuring to herself while waiting for what the girl would pull this time to get out of trouble.

“Wrong classroom!” The last few words blurted out almost frantically followed by the owner of these blabbering attempting to make a run for it. It wouldn’t hurt to skip school today, wouldn’t it? Sayumi thought as her legs began moving on its own. Unfortunately, they weren’t fast enough when she felt a cold grip on her forearm.

Shit! Out of reflexes, Sayumi turned around in hopes of being able to push the other down with her free arm only to have it caught as well. She found it ridiculous to be standing in the hallway with her arms crisscrossed.

“Sayu, it’s me! Have you gone mad?” A stern voice rang through the younger girl’s head while the freezing grip on her loosens gradually.

“N-nee-san?” Sayumi blinked carefully at the figure in front of her. Once she was convinced that it really was her friend, she took a deep sigh of relief and began laughing. “You scared me!”

Meanwhile back in the classroom, Reina was ready to chase when a sheet of paper caught her sights. It was a roster of this week’s cleaning duty and she found a certain name printed on it. It was a wonder how she had never noticed that such a pain was actually in the same class as her. Having a change of plans, Reina decided to wait instead. Her prey will have to return eventually.

“If you didn’t do anything wrong, you wouldn’t be afraid.” Near the end of the hallway, Ai released her hold on her friend and pulled out a proverb on the younger girl as well. “Speaking of doing something wrong, you wouldn’t happen to be out late the other night getting into trouble were you?”

“I’m an angel, I don’t mix with trouble. Of course not!“ Sayumi grinned innocently at her elder, and obviously lying. Still, Ai gave the girl the benefit of doubt and chose not to pursue.

“I hope not. First period is starting soon, shouldn’t you be in class?” Ai raised her eyebrow, eyeing her sister-like figure like a teacher.

“Pft, you’re going to be authoritative again aren’t you, Nee-san?”

“What? What gave you that idea?” Such accusations finally got Ai’s attention, pulling her out of looking bored and serious.

“Yeah, since you always follow with “I’ll book you if you’re still not in class after the first bell” or whatever.”

“No I don’t. Now get to class.” Ai began to head straight for denial and pulled a rambling Michishige along as they began to walk back to their respective classroom.

“But you do! Sometimes I wish you were just another student in the school instead of being in the council.” Sayumi quickened her steps to be on the same pace as her senior.

“Sure, me too.” Rolling her eyes, the elder girl soon paid no mind to her junior’s complaints.

“But that won’t do too. You’re more useful with authority than not.”

“How… upsetting. You see me as a tool?” Ai sighed, looking as despondent as she could.

“Of course not, I was just kidding. Nee-san’s more important than that!” Sayumi hugged her senior by the arm in attempt to comfort her.

“So I’m an important tool?” Putting two and two together, Ai sighed again.

“This is bad! Nee-san knows how to be sarcastic!” Sayumi faked a gasp at the elder’s response. There was a pregnant pause before both girls broke out laughing at their horrible acts, but that didn’t last too long.

“So, finally decided to come back to class?” A 3rd voice rang out from before them, interrupting the moment of fun the other two shared. Standing lazily at the classroom’s doorway was Reina patiently filing her nails, all this while being a patient predator.

“I don’t know what you’re going on about.” Sayumi frowned and pulled Ai along as she tries to continue down the hallway in order to convince everyone that this wasn’t her classroom.

“Nice try, but the class’ duty roster seems to have your name on it.” Reina went on, glaring at the girl just slightly older than herself with daggers in her eyes. “And we have a score to settle.”

“Sayu, what’s going on?” Ai had been watching all along, now stepping in to demand an answer for the commotion because she has the authority to know.

“It’s none of your business.” The adolescent girl remarked and reached out to pull her prey back into the classroom where they could settle the problem once and for all. Or from Reina’s perspective - revenge.

“If there’s going to be any trouble in this school, then it is my business.” The oldest of the trio automatically snatched the girl’s wrist and pulled it away from Sayumi’s direction, adding a little twist to her grip.

“OH FUCK!”

The scream was loud enough to break glass if anything.

“Nee-san!” Sayumi was surprised at the unusual act of aggressiveness from her elder. She then quickly held the tensed forearm of Ai and tugged at it. “Don’t do this, you’ll break her arm!”

“Yeah, get your hand off me you B-“ Reina winced even harder when the grip tightens, twisting her arm, which was already in an awkward angle, even further.

Watching Reina wince in pain with tears practically brimming by her eyes, Ai gave up and sighed, shrugging the wrist away.

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Ai quoted and backed away. She looked at Sayumi sternly, scolding the girl with only her expression.

“What the hell is with you?” Reina massaged her wrist thoroughly, more annoyed than afraid at the display of defense.

“Sayu, could you come with me for a bit? I’ll excuse you from classes until we’re done.” Ai ignored the agitated yankee and continued down the corridor expecting Sayumi to follow.

“I-…I’m sorry,” Sayumi apologized to her growling classmate. It’s time to face the music, especially now that Ai is aware of what ‘trouble’ her friend has gotten herself into. She gave up and made sure to correct her own mistakes, more afraid of her senior than the violent young girl before her now. “We’ll settle the score, I promise. Just... wait for me after school or something.”

The strength of the grip before was almost abnormal, the adolescent thought, rubbing the burning red finger marks around her wrist.

Reina fell back against the wall and watched the once bubbly girl jog down the hallway after her senior. She was both bewildered and angry at being humiliated like that. But nevertheless she couldn’t help but wonder who that ‘Nee-san’ was.

"They're both weirdos!"

Gossip weren’t nice.

’Does she know how ugly that patch makes her look?’

Nor were they ever true.

’I think she has a violent boyfriend. Poor girl!’
Okay, who are we talking about again here? This is Reina, right?

’She probably fell into a drain or something. How careless.’

The moment she sat herself down on her seat, an ear piercing “Iyaaaa~” also identifiable as a scream of disbelief echoed into the classroom. Horrified by the cry, Reina jumped from her seat and reflexively turned her head towards the front entrance.
This time...gotta be Sayu. :)

Quote
“How careless of me!” Sayumi laughed nervously, pretending to be a stranger.

“Oh really?” Reina looked on with suspicion, murmuring to herself while waiting for what the girl would pull this time to get out of trouble.

“Wrong classroom!” The last few words blurted out almost frantically followed by the owner of these blabbering attempting to make a run for it. It wouldn’t hurt to skip school today, wouldn’t it? Sayumi thought as her legs began moving on its own.
Geez Sayu, didn't you learn the first time your attempt at covert surveillance failed? :P

Quote
“Sayu, it’s me! Have you gone mad?” A stern voice rang through the younger girl’s head while the freezing grip on her loosens gradually.

“N-nee-san?” Sayumi blinked carefully at the figure in front of her. Once she was convinced that it really was her friend, she took a deep sigh of relief and began laughing. “You scared me!”
Oh, it's Aichan? Sayu caught a break there.

*AICHAN/SAYU DIALOGUE*
Sayu's pretty cute when she's trying to lie. XD

Wow. Didn't realize Aichan had this toughness/badass-ness streak in her. :o

Kinda hot, to tell you the truth. :inlove:

I have to agree, Ai-chan acted really cool in this last chapter (but a little too angry too XD)
I bet Reina is curious about this whole situation, and I bet she wants to get even with Sayu too

An update is long due...

Chapter 9 - Incurring the wrath of Narcissus I

The bell has rung and everyone else had already gone home leaving only a few teachers and students with nothing better to do. The skies were turning a hue mixed of red and orange, and the clouds drifted by in an ‘oh so carefree’ manner. It was a perfect setting for shy individuals to finally confess to their charismatic seniors, especially with the flock of crows passing by with their encouraging caws, but Reina didn’t care.

She tapped her foot impatiently, standing at the foyer of which everyone and anyone would have to pass through in order to leave the compound. Being the relatively intolerant type, it was a wonder that Reina could have been on her feet since hours ago, but fantasizing on various ways to traumatize her prey was more than enough to keep her occupied for so long.

It really wasn’t so much of Reina’s pettiness taking effect, but for all the humiliation that Sayumi had given her even if unintentionally, Reina wasn’t able to simply let it slide without at least giving the older girl a matching ‘eye patch’. Speaking of prey, here she comes.

“Well, I’m here.” The girl with two pigtails stood a safe distance away from Reina, looking uneasy with the other’s piercing eyes all over her. Well, partially that, and the fear that Ai would come strolling down any minute. Sayumi had been given a good lecture from the senior just this morning and made to swear never to even exchange glances with the yankii.

As if she would listen.

“Hmph, no ‘Nee-san’ to protect you this time huh? Lovely.” Reina smirked as though victory was already in her hands now.

“I hope not.” Sayumi murmured to herself before swallowing hard and facing the now perked up classmate of hers. “Let’s hurry up and get this settled… though I have one condition.”

“I’m not into bargaining.” Reina shot bluntly, but then logic came into play and that was long due. “But! I’d have to state my terms too then, if you must have yours.”

“That’s not fair. You’ll probably pummel me to death and you still want more?”

“Hey, first you stalk me, then turn me into a panda, AND have your friend nearly snap my wrist into two and you say I’m not fair? What are you? Senile?” Reina took an agitated step forward, causing Sayumi to take a step back as well.

“Fine. I just hope that we won’t see each other again after this.”

“What? We’re breaking up?” The yankii responded dramatically, because a break-up was exactly what it sounded to her. Regardless, “I wouldn’t want to see you again either. But before we go our separate ways, I demand to know why you were stalking me.”

“If I told you now, would you just let me go, and unscathed?” Sayumi started to negotiate, a little hope in her voice.

“No.” All that hope in the usually bubbly girl immediately got ripped into microscopic shreds by an answer so blunt that it could kill. “An eye for an eye, haven’t you heard?”

“Urgh… All right. How do you want to do this?”

“Me versus you, outside.” Reina pointed to the empty space, which separated the school building from the main gates. “You seem like a decent fighter, or at least your brute strength was useful.”

“I’m a girl. I don’t have brute strength.” Sayumi huffed and lifted her nose to the air in a dignified manner while making her way past her opponent. Not that the other gave a damn about it anyway. Reina too then made her way outside.

The girls both unbuttoned the first button to their blouse and had their sleeves rolled up slightly. Both being more or less experienced in combat did what they must to prepare, mostly being warms up and whatnot. Reina was quickly ready and she started by pointed a finger at Sayumi, clearly declaring a challenge towards her.

“You’re not leaving with your pretty face still intact today.” She mocked and launched forward suddenly in attempt to land a surprised punch on Sayumi.

“Oh, but I intend to!” Sayumi countered with a smirk and rushed towards Reina instead of trying to dodge the attack. Given the relatively wide distance between them, it gave her the opportunity of a second or two to notice her classmate charging at her.

As they both sped towards each other, the moment Reina’s fist was a mere inch away from Sayumi’s face, the older girl twisted her body horizontally and ducked down. The punch went through thin air and before Reina could even register it, she felt her opponent’s forearm followed by a shoulder ramming into her stomach. The force of the attack was enough to push her back by quite a bit as well, but a little alertness and a well-executed somersault brought Reina back to her feet along with her balance.

”Y-Yeah, definitely brute strength.” Through coughing and feeling the full impact of the blow, Reina still forced a smirk to her lips. She emphasized on brute strength on purpose simply to piss her opponent off. Talk about stubbornness.

“I’ve told you, I don’t have brute strength. I’m just better than-!“

So much for gaining the upper hand at the beginning. Sayumi had forgotten to take a step back after making her move, leaving the gap between her and Reina to be closer than before. Taking advantage of the distance, Reina was able to close in with a quick dash while Sayumi was busy making excuses. Crouching down the moment she was close to Sayumi, she launched her body up vertically with a slight twist and with the help of one arm while her legs were bent in. Once the angle was right, both legs sprung out towards her opponent, sending the girl flying and landing with a few skips on the ground.

Sayumi was left motionless on the ground for some time after that. Reina took the interval as a chance to prepare herself again. It wasn’t too long before the pigtailed girl stirred and struggled to push herself off the ground.

Eyes closed and body aching, Sayumi’s arms shook weakly as she tried to get up, her vision blurred from the dust that got into her eyes. She slowly attempted to compose herself again, blinking furiously in hopes to see clearly again. Her face felt sticky and as soon as she got to a kneeling position, she wiped whatever which was on her face away with the back of her hand. Something felt warm and wet. The girl who held pride in her very physique and appearance was bleeding, her face grazed and cut during the landing fall.

Reina wasn’t too far from the disfigured girl, and was quite capable of noticing the state of the other’s face as well. She winced, feeling that wounds would take days, or even weeks to heal and scars may be inevitable. But a fight is a fight and injuries were equally inevitable.

As one remained immobile and currently too shock to react to the unacceptable uglification done to her face, the other waited in her stance, ready to defend or attack at anytime. Meanwhile, a few stories above them, Ai was shutting down her laptop and ready to lock up the council room.

“I wonder if Sayu is still around…” She thought out loud, knowing that the girl would always wait for her but after the dressing down earlier, she wasn’t so sure. “Maybe I was too harsh today…” She reflected while sliding the door close and turning the key.

“Hey.”

A cheerful greeting from the side surprised Ai suddenly, leading her to pull the key out with a little too much strength. Feeling nothing apart from shock, the council president turned her head towards the source only to meet someone she wasn’t too familiar with but otherwise knew.

“You probably don’t remember me but… We met, the other day.” Ai smiled in relief after her quick realization. The other girl looked almost too happy as she introduced herself, but that quickly turned into embarrassment and anxiety. “But you probably don’t remember that day either. You must think that I’m crazy or something, talking to you for no reason… Oh God, I knew this was a bad idea-“

“I remember.” Ai cut in, afraid that the girl might combust suddenly or something of that nature. She didn’t say what she did just to humor the other though, Ai really did remember. Not just that day, but also the year before, and the times they’ve indirectly met in between. She even remembered the other’s name…

“Oh… Oh! That’s… good.” The girl appeared uneasy at first and indecisive as to what to continue. Ai herself wasn’t quite sure what to say either, to someone who would just go up to another suddenly in attempt to make a friend. Not that she would mind as long as there was no malice to their purpose. “I’m Niigaki Risa!”

Exchanging names, a great way to start a conversation. Even if Sayumi weren’t around to walk home with later on, maybe Risa would do the honors, even if only to the gates. That seemed like a splendid idea to Ai, if only she didn’t realize that she was planning things too far ahead. With an upwards heave of her belongings and a smile, she responded.

“Ai. Takahashi Ai.”

Woo~ Found this fic last night. I'm loving it. Like other people it reminds me of Ikkitousen.

Reina beating down Sayumi was good. But I hope they sort things out and I hope they manage to get Reina to fight :D Although Gaki would be a bit worried for her safety.

Hmm...Do I sense some TakaGaki???   *crosses fingers*

I'd laugh if Reina was standing and waiting there for so long, only to later find out that Aichan and Sayu had already left before she got there.

Ah, so Sayu came down and met her even though Aichan told her not to?

Hey, it IS only fair that if Sayu gets a condition, that Reina does too. Can't have one side being handicapped, you know.
