10 years, and amazingly this trailer has less actual gameplay than the previous one.

It's hard to imagine this being good after so long as vapourware.

Ohwow, it's still being developed. Only a matter of years now I guess.
But I'm looking forward to it.

I hope the "Forever" in the title isn't just how long it takes to make it, but also how long the actual game will be.

Wonder if they still use the original Q2 engine?

This game could be better called: duke nukem whenever.
Just because they keep delaying it. It's been years already they where developing this game

Wonder if they still use the original Q2 engine?

In the original preview it used sprite based graphics. Hopefully they've at least moved on to polygons. :P

Considering the amount of time this has been in development its probably gone through 3 shifts of engines,   Im expecting it to look something like 'prey' on the 360.
No doubt it will conatin the havok engine also,    this game is probably gonna suck though. :(

When this game entered development Bill Clinton was still President, no one had ever heard of Al Qaeda, 56K was the fastest internet already unless you really shelled out for IDSN, no one had ever uttered the phrase MMORPG, people didn't wince when you used the phrase 'hanging chad', Savage Garden and Boyz II Men were burning up the charts along with the Spice Girls...

I hope there's more idea than just doing the same as 10 years ago, but with better graphics. There's so much competition in the field now.

I hope that video is from an earlier version of the game. Looks like a crappy and boring generic FPS from late 90's.

Title: 'Duke Nukem Forever' release possible in 2008, coming to home consoles
Post by: Foxy Brown on February 07, 2008, 08:24:22 AM
Garland-based video games developer 3D Realms has said Duke Nukem Forever, the highly anticipated sequel to its revolutionary 1996 PC game Duke Nukem 3D, is projected to be completed in late 2008, with versions likely for Microsoft's Xbox 360, Sony's PlayStation 3 home video game consoles and personal computers.

"We haven't formally announced any platforms for DNF," wrote 3D Realms President Scott Miller in an e-mail exchange. "But, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360)."

Miller added a note of caution on the 12-years-coming sequel and its release window, claiming, "We can't make an official announcement. Frankly, we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on target this time. Its definitely an internal push."  (http://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/stories/2008/02/04/daily17.html)

Duke Nukem Developer 3D Realms Shuts Down

Update 3: 3D Realms webmaster Joe Siegler has commented on the shut down, stating: "It's not a marketing thing. It's true. I have nothing further to say at this time." Siegler's post also reflects the unexpected nature of the situation, as he was unaware of the impending shut down during an interview conducted yesterday afternoon.

Update 2: Duke Nukem Forever publisher Take-Two has confirmed to Shacknews that it was not funding ongoing development of the 3D Realms project. "We can confirm that our relationship with 3D Realms for Duke Nukem Forever was a publishing arrangement, which did not include ongoing funds for development of the title," said Take-Two VP of communications Alan Lewis in a prepared statement. "In addition, Take-Two continues to retain the publishing rights to Duke Nukem Forever," he added.

Update: Apogee Software and Deep Silver have issued a statement to Shacknews, confirming that the situation at 3D Realms has not affected the development of Frontline Games' upcoming handheld Duke Nukem Trilogy. "Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms," a representative for the companies told us. "Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned."

Original story: A very reliable source close to Duke Nukem Forever developer 3D Realms today confirmed to Shacknews that the development studio has shut down. The closure came about as a result of funding issues, our source explained, with the shut down said to affect both 3D Realms and the recently resurrected Apogee. Employees of both entities have already been let go.

Phone calls and e-mails to various 3D Realms veterans have thus far gone unanswered, with 3D Realms publishing partner Take-Two and Apogee partner Deep Silver likewise unavailable for comment. One 3D Realms spokesperson declined to comment when reached. 3D Realms was founded in 1987 by Scott Miller and George Broussard, and was best known for its Duke Nukem series of shooters starring the titular, bubblegum-lacking hero. The studio had infamously been working on Duke Nukem Forever, the next flagship franchise entry, for over 12 years.

A final push to release Duke Nukem Forever began in 2007, marked by a short teaser starring the in-game hero that was released late that year. As recent as January 2009, company steward George Broussard wrote on his Twitter feed that he was visiting Take-Two to show off the title.

Title: Controversial, Long Awaited ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ Will Finally Be Released
Post by: Foxy Brown on September 03, 2010, 07:16:15 PM
“Duke Nukem Forever,” a video game synonymous with never being released, is finally being released.

The first person shooter about a space marine with a penchant for off-color humor who battles aliens with increasingly destructive weapons, was to be the fourth installment in a series of games that garnered critical praise and generated controversy for its depiction of women. After 10 years in development, 3D Realms, the studio behind the game, announced it was shutting down in 2009.

The game is being finished by Gearbox Software and will be published by Take-Two Interactive, maker of the “Grand Theft Auto” series. The game is being shown to consumers and the press for the first time at a video game convention today. Gearbox hopes to release the game next year. That's generous, but yeah, it'll end up around that range from what I've seen from PAX. I guess it was inevitable that someone would shove something out the door to get money from the title. I think this may end up at the Snakes on a Plane of video games though - tons of internet hype leading to few people actually caring enough to spend money on it.

Title: Duke Nukem Forever release date delayed until June
Post by: Foxy Brown on March 29, 2011, 09:22:03 PM
The return of the Duke Nukem PC and console game has been delayed by more than a month, according to a video message from its developers.

In the clip posted on YouTube, Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford made a joke of the announcement with a member of staff changing the release date as he gives an update.

The game is now out on 10 June internationally and 14 June in the US. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/12849616)

So I've been playing a bit.
It's alright indeed, the beginning is a bit boring though, the vehicle part. Just driving around zzz...
It could also be better if they hadn't consolificated it.

I don't want checkpoints! I want levels.
I want to be able to save whenever I want and resume at this point.
I also want to carry all weapons and not just two.
It also needs more gore and it would be more fun if you could kill peaceful people but that's probably the reason why they didn't have to censor it here.

I saw a news article on the whole 4 weapon inventory option, saying they only had 2 weapons because of 'console limitations' and that there's not enough buttons to call up 4 weapons. Have they never heard of Bioshock or Ratchet & Clank before? Never heard of a weapon wheel , where you hold down a button and a radical menu appears to select a weapon? Or even use the D-Pad to cycle through weapons one at a time? Besides, the 2 weapons has never been a technical issue, but more of a design choice that deals with balance and gameplay in games like Halo and CoD. Seriously, Gearbox is just embarrasing themselves trying to defend the game.
