I looks like I'll have some time to play video games next weekend. I want to pick up something new for my Wii to help it justify itself.
I've narrowed down my options to a number of top contenders. I'm interested in what other people's opinions are.
-
I would say Mario Galaxy :)
-
DEFINITELY Super Mario Galaxy.
It's an excellent game and definitely one of the most fun ones I've played for the wii.
-
yep, I think Super Mario Galaxy is a must-have too ~
..... even though I don't even have Wii :P
-
Where's the option for Wii Fit (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/wii/rfnj/index.html)??
(I shit you not, it's HUGELY POPULAR here (http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/7144/youcrazyfy2.gif) )
-
That's all kids games man! How about Resident Evil 4?!
RESIDENT EVIL 4, if you feel like a raw, adult game ( I can't stand Mario games now, I probably I outgrew them). That said, if you like rocket launchers, crazy villager people, being on suspense while you play, stuff being blown up and feeling like a badass; this game is for you. Storyline, graphics, controls, gameplay and even the SOUND is top notch. You're not doing yourself any good if you own a Wii, and DON'T own this game.
After you beat the core game, there's also plenty of extras. Two "expansion packs"; Seperate Ways and Assignment Ado, along with a movie mode, and Mercenaries (the time-killing non-stop shooter). You'll have plenty of fun with the extras, I guarantee that. Plus, beating these extras unlocks more things like costumes, not to mention the CORE GAME ITSELF demands a reply in my eyes.
This game has been ported from system to system (including PC), so that should tell you something about the demands of this game. The Wii controls puts you in the action. BUY THIS GAME! With a $30 price tag, you can't go wrong with it!
Check out the awards it got:

I don't even have a Wii and I say Mario Galaxy. But Prime 3 looks great too.

That's not out here yet.
I already have Resident Evil 4, though it never grabbed me for some reason.
-
Voted mario galaxy. since that's what I chose. :P
And cos it's weird to have a nintendo console with no mario! XD
-
for a mature game, no more heroes is your choice.
-
It's between Super Mario Galaxy or No More Heroes.
-
Difficult question.
I'm one of the few who was kinda disappointed with Mario Galaxy. The camera view is annoying, some elements seemed kinda childish, controls weren't accurate enough for my taste (but that might be the case with all the wii games, which if you're used to playing on a wii shouldn't be a big issue probably). However, you can see that they spend a lot of time on this game and it'll entertain you for quite some time.. plus the resale value will be good in any case
Mario Strikers Charged is very boring, I wouldn't recommend it. There's some cool elements in it, but the whole game is highly repetitive. Even when playing with friends it gets boring pretty soon.
I haven't played the other games in your list, so I can't comment on those.
Actually, now that I think of it, I would recommend Super Paper Mario. I had much more fun playing this than Galaxy.
-
Difficult question.
" Oh, Barry! "

I thought I was the only one to think Galaxy wasn't all that great. I personally think it was a polished form of Sunshine or 64 with a few extras things included and excluded. The one thing that irked me the most was the fact that most of the game was linear, hence no free-roaming around the level. It would've been nice if we could fly on our own without preset path star trails. But what's been made can't be changed -_-
Oh yes, I would suggest Metroid Prime 3
-
I ended up picking up No More Heroes today. I'll try to borrow Mario Galaxy from a friend who has it.
Thanks for the advice all!
-
I'm not leaving this thread till you beat Resident Evil 4. And if you think I'm kidding; yeah- that's what this guy thought.

lol meow likes RE4??
Umbrella Chronicles is good too. gives u a quick summary of all the RE games.

Literally put your hands together! :w00t:
So how is NMH so far? O0
-
Pretty fun. I had to do a report last night, so I only played the intro part.
It's fast paced, good voice acting, nice modern art graphics and it uses the Wiimote pretty well. I'll post more fulsome impressions when I get a chance to play it some more.
@Meowchi: I suppose I should go and give it another try. I feel guilty about buying games and not playing them anyway.

no more heroes got delyaed in canada because of the damn french manual getting translated...dam frenchies!
-
I always throw out the French manual anyway. It seems silly to include when (a) 95% of the population in Ontario can speak English and (b) the entire game is English-only.
Are there really lots of French people who buy English-language games but complain because they can't read the manual?
-
you HAVE to get mario galaxy. its really good. you wont regret it.
-
Yeah, I may once I finish NMH, and maybe RE4 if I can get back to it. (I'm about 1/3 through Zelda, I should play that again sometime.) I just have very little time for video games lately.
-
im right there with you. i havent finished zelda or re4 either. i barely have time for video games and there's always a new game that i wanna play. the last game i started playin was mass effect. i dunno if im gonna finish it either. i really wanna finish all of them. oh..and FFXII too.
-
I only played FFXII for about a half-hour before quitting. It did absolutely nothing to grab me. The last games I played through were CoD4 and Crysis for the PC.

Lol @ meowchi. You sure knows how to pimp a game don't ya? :D
I think getting NMH was a good call. Galaxy is just one of those games you eventually will play, and you'll love, coz it's how it works. I myself are looking to play more Wii games, mainly coz i've been totally stuck with my 360 lately and my Wii needs to be dusted off a bit. From what you say Asmo, NMH seems interesting, and I've been wanting to try it since the first time I heard of it. Please give us more yummy details as you play, i need motivation to stay up all night, being a dick at work, for a game. :D
Though of course, I really should play through RE4 (Yes meow i know, i should've played through it ages ago) on the Wii since I just got a couple of hours with it on the GC and it is without a doubt one helluva game (not good enough to make me post lots of caps tho).
/me stares at meow
You RE fangirl! ;)
-
I'm also stuck in the middle of some games that I really want to finish. Like RE4 (up to chapter 5-1) and Mass Effect (finished all sidequests possible before starting main quest. And just when the main quest opened up new spots). And a lot of good games I just don't have time to play...
The next big Wii game should be Mario Kart. I never liked the original, and didn't play the sequel/s. But I want to give it a try. (unless Final Fantasy 4 on DS comes out before that, of course. Then I'll go full-time reminiscing :inlove:)

What can I say? I'm a resident evil fangirl! I think I get it from my aunt (I watched her beat the 1st resident evil when I was like... 11)
What parts are you guys stuck on in RE4?
-

yea, never liked it too. whats the point of doing that when they could jsut release it later with the french manual instead of jeopardizing the whole canadian gaming population. maybe ill try and get it when i cross over to the border this weekend
What parts are you guys stuck on in RE4?
at the farm in the village lol
i hate it u cant walk and shoot at the same time. i always have to run to a corner and let them come to me cuz i dont wanna get ambushed from behind lol
-
at the farm in the village lol
At the farm in the village, what in the world; isn't that like 7 minutes into the game? :O
Yeah it would've been cool to walk an shoot at the same time, but than again, it wouldn't be as scary. I think part of the suspense factor in the game is being in danger of getting attacked from any direction...
Oh, and if you play Resident Evil during the day with light, aw you aren't giving yourself the liberty of experience the true Resident Evil experience, which is playing at night with no lights on, and the volume notched up!
-
That is indeed like 7mins into the game :D, but that's we're i'm at aswell (in the Wii version). It's too scary! You gotta be patient meow maew yaow, RE4 so scary it needs to be played with caution. I usually stand completly still with the back against a wall, listening to the creepy sounds, ready to bust some heads. Shit, i really feel like playing some now that i think of it.
-
I totally remember the first time I did the village square area (before the farm) with room lights off.
I was literally running circles outside and hitting walls, like a chicken with my head chopped off. :banghead:
I took most of them out and was thinking "hey, this isn't so hard!!" :jerk:
Then the SECOND wave came in...
I had no bullets and low health so I tried to find the exit... which i did... :w00t:
...met the chainsaw guy XD guarding the exit door, LOCKED
(you guys should be able to guess what happened 2 seconds after :shakeit:).
Think i did everything the programmers scripted me to do in that area, perfect run!
Might get some time to finish it this weekend, cos it's my BD and I've already applied for 2 days leave! (= 4 days of gaming time)
^Asmodai
Back to Wii'ing, check out the interviews on how they got their ideas. It's a nice read. And might swerve your next buy!
SSBB:

Wii Fit:

SSBB and Wii Fit (if it ever comes out) are both on my 'buy on release day' list already. :)
-
at the farm in the village lol
At the farm in the village, what in the world; isn't that like 7 minutes into the game? :O
yea thats because i cant collect all the necklaces or w/e to open the huge door going to the next area XD
-
YEAH, the village part was pretty fun! The A.I is tricky as heck, especially the chainsaw dude; but that guys just the tip of the frosting, cause there's these one tyrant like creatures... that, uh, well I don't wanna spoil it for you guys.
There's a lot more cool stuff later on in the game!

What- no you don't need to collect all those blue things to go to the next area, that's only if you want to get a special gun...
-
Wii fit looks kinda fun. I think i'd like to try it before I buy it and I dunno when it'll be released here or how much it's gonna cost. It'll probably be a rip off and it wouldn't surprise me (too lazy to check) if it's out in North America in a month or so, Australia a week after and Europe Q3 2010. :( And it's not like i can buy it from Canada either since they region code Wii games. Them fuckers.
@ meow: You should make us a RE4 walkthrough. Actually i think i demand it. :D It's too scary for me to even take one more step innit. Not unless i have a solid guide to fall back on. And that's where you come in! Das right, it's time for you to step up. XD
-
all this re4 talk makes me want to get the game...
I haven't even beat code veronica on the ps2 yet(got killed by a boss a couple hours without saving and was just so pissed off I never wanted to play again) XD
I loved the series though.
I have seen someone play it before though and looks fun as hell.
But i haven't really played much video games lately... and when it comes to wii games I'm only like an hour into Metroid Prime and haven't beat Super Mario Galaxy yet.
-
meowchi, have you finished ada's assignment yet after beating the game? ada is so awesome. finding the vials were pretty easy too. :yep:
what was even scarier was those vicious dogs in the garden.
-
What- no you don't need to collect all those blue things to go to the next area, that's only if you want to get a special gun...
wat? really? LOL
im so stuck on Veronica, im at the boss fight with the tyrant or nemesis like guy on the plane. i ran out of ammo and i cant push him out off the plane -.-
-
Haha, they made that boss harder in the later versions of the game, I think it's more a battle of survival and you have to hit him with the crate a few times no matter how much you shoot him now.

I'd recommend GHIII. I've had a ton of fun with it.
-
so did you finally get a game or are you just waiting on smash bros?
-
so did you finally get a game or are you just waiting on smash bros?
I picked up NMH, about 20% into it. I've already pre-ordered Smash Bros.
-
Just got my wii a couple weeks ago. I want to get No More Heroes and Smash Bros. for sure, but finals are in two weeks. :sweatdrop:
Okami looks like a winner too. (to be released in the middle of next month) I never really heard much about it when it was first released on the PS2, but the videos I've seen are just freakin' awesome. The gameplay looks like it's a total match for the wiimote, but I guess since the wii wasn't out yet when it was released, they had to go with the PS2.
-
^Okami is one of the best games ever. My problem with the wii has always been that the controls aren't accurate enough for my tastes. That's why I'm not sure how good Okami will work on the wii.. but it should be cool nonetheless.

I picked up Okami and Mario Kart yesterday. Mario Kart seems only OK. I haven't had a chance to try out Okami yet.
-
Been playing Okami for the last couple weeks, and damn is it good. Yes, there are some occasional control issues with brush stroke recognition and the timing of the motion-controls, but I've never been really frustrated with them. Aside from that, the only minor niggle I had was that the opening exposition cinematics take a good while before you're actually running around and fighting. I guess this is why this version has a "skip movie" button, which I heard was missing in the original.
The real treat to me has been all the freedom you're given to move around, and the colorful little details sprinkled throughout the game world. Seeing all the amazing character designs and art style combined with some stylish twists on familiar Japanese mythology and folk tales is a real treat.
Yes, there are some real similarities to the Zelda games, and the designers have said they were inspired and influenced by them. But I'd say that Okami is less puzzle-oriented than the Zelda games, and more exploration-oriented.
Btw, there's a somewhat apologetic promotion from Capcom (http://www.capcom.com/artredemption/) to have them send you one of three new box art inserts to replace the IGN watermarked one the game shipped with. I haven't decided which one I want yet.
-
As a social game i highly recommend monkey ball(the single player bits cool too but the multiplayer part is the best part of the game)
-
Thanks for the heads up on the inserts Slack! Ordered mine.
-

True. I spend 15-20 minutes watching the intro movie
However, if you completed the story mode once, you do get a 'skip movie' button.
