Post by: Tuffty on February 14, 2008, 07:39:10 PM
Al Pacino is to make a cameo appearance in new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace.

The Oscar-winning actor, 67, agreed to star opposite 007 Daniel Craig following secret talks in LA.

According to The Mirror, he will play the head of the international terrorist organisation featured in previous film Casino Royale.

Only a cameo by the sound of things, but still, PACINO!

he can play a pretty good badass, like in Devil's Advocate or Carlito's Way.. I'm still waiting on who is going to sing the theme song.. I've heard rumours about the Killers and Amy Winehouse

Amy Winehouse probably has the most suitable voice and seems the most sensible. The Killers is just...not. Yeah I can't really think of anyone else that could do a Bond tune.

that poster is bad ass.

^^ though the vocals of the killers isn't very suitable. A collab with whinehouse and the killers could make a kick ass song.

thanx for the teaser, it looks like the movie is going to pick up right where Casino Royale left off.
Since we were talking about the song, what's your fav and least fav Bond theme song?
My fav has to be "Nobody Does it Better" by Carly Simon from "The Spy Who Loved Me" and the Madonna one from Die Another Day ranks as my worst  :bleed eyes:

‘James Bond: Quantum Of Solace’ Plot Revealed!

What is “Quantum of Solace”? James Bond screenwriter Paul Haggis might not have any idea, but if MGM was kind enough to cc him on their latest press release, the Oscar-winner will gain a drool-inducing insight into the film’s plot, right alongside the rest of us. Below is the spankin’ new, studio-approved plot summary of Bond’s 22nd flick. Does it leave you shaken, or stirred? Oh, and at the risk of sounding like a cheesy guy in an IROC is driving past us: “Spoiler alert!”

“‘Quantum of Solace’ continues the high octane adventures of James Bond (Daniel Craig) in ‘Casino Royale.’ Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (Judi Dench) interrogate Mr. White (Jesper Christensen), who reveals the organization which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined. Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a woman who has her own vendetta.

Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organization. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world’s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). Using his associates in the organization, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene’s sinister plan and stop his organization.

Since we were talking about the song, what's your fav and least fav Bond theme song?

My fave Bond theme songs:

For Your Eyes Only
Nobody Does It Better
Live And Let Die
All Time High
The Man With The Golden Gun
________

I'd like to see Pacino wig out in this new role like he did in "Godfather 3."  He's at the age where it would feel totally plausible.

Short behind the scenes video of Quantum of Solace (http://forums.gametrailers.com/showthread.php?t=351139)

It's not mentioned in the video but I believe the opening credits of the next movie don't even appear until 20 mins, making it the longest time that's happened in a Bond film, or indeed any movie.

Can't wait to see this!  Daniel Craig is dreamy too, haha.

And from what I've read, Amy Winehouse is a go for the theme.

The artists behind the theme song have been revealed, and it isn't quite what you expected:

Quote
Alicia Keys and Jack White of the White Stripes will record the theme song for the new James Bond film Quantum Of Solace.

'Another Way To Die' marks the first duet in the film franchise's history. The song was written and produced by White, who will also play drums on the track.

Quantum Of Solace will arrive in UK cinemas on October 31, with the soundtrack released on October 28.

Numerous other artists, including Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Duffy and Beyoncé Knowles, had previously been rumoured to be recording the new Bond theme.

Great voice on one, great guitarist and songwriter of the other. Should be good!

James Bond theme gets first play

Jack White and Alicia Keys' theme for the new James Bond movie has had its first airplay.

Radio 1 DJ Jo Whiley debuted Another Way To Die on her morning show. The track will feature in Quantum of Solace which is out on 31 October.

The song, which is the 22nd Bond theme, is driven by White's trademark fuzzy guitar riffs and thunderous drum rolls.

The pair were announced to score the track in July despite Amy Winehouse being hotly tipped for the role.

The track sees the singer trading vocals with Keys over a horn section with White singing: "Another tricky little gun giving solace to the one that'll never see the sun shine."

Keys responds with: "Another inch of your life sacrifice for your brother in the nick of time."

Sample of the song included in this link (http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_7622000/7622911.stm)

Thoughts? Will need to listen to the song in it's entirety but it sounds just ok. Didn't really like 'You Know My Name' at first but grew to like it. I imagine this might be the same.

Bond's famous catchphrases are dropped

The director of Quantum Of Solace has dropped some of James Bond's most famous catchphrases as part of a move to bring the secret agent into the 21st Century.

In his 22nd screen adventure, the operative will not make his classic introduction "The name is Bond, James Bond". Nor will he order his martinis, shaken not stirred.

Director Marc Forster told The Independent: "There was a 'Bond, James Bond' in the script. There are several places where we shot it as well, but it never worked as we hoped.

"I just felt we should cut it out, and Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson (the film's producers) agreed, and Daniel [Craig], agreed too. It's nice to be open-minded about the Bond formula. You can always go back to them later on."

Editor of the online 007 Magazine, Graham Rye, said that Craig is much closer to creator Ian Fleming's vision of the British agent.

"The Bond films had become tired and needed reinvigorating. Rather than going away from Fleming I think the producers have gone back to him," he said.

The movie will get its first public screening at the BFI London Film Festival at the end of next month.

007’s winning streak continues in ‘Quantum’

Much has been made of the sadism of the James Bond character, particularly in his original incarnation in the fiction of Ian Fleming. But as played by Daniel Craig in “Casino Royale” and now “Quantum of Solace,” there’s a case to be made for 007 as masochist — unlike earlier renderings of the character, Craig’s Bond lets the audience feel the impact of every blow to the head, every bullet to the shoulder, every face-first landing into the side of a building.

This isn’t Roger Moore or even Pierce Brosnan we’re dealing with here — this is a 007 who bleeds and aches, both internally and externally. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27667220/)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
New Bond girl is a polydactyly

A six-fingered spy seems a natural fit for a James Bond film, right in keeping with other odd-bodied henchmen such as the metal-mouthed giant Jaws or Tee Hee, the assassin with a hook for a hand.

But the supernumerary appearing in the latest 007 adventure, “Quantum of Solace,” is no quirky Bond villain. She’s the new Bond beauty, Gemma Arterton, a 22-year-old British actress who was born with six fingers on each hand, a condition known as polydactyly. Quantum of Solace was a big disappointment after Casino Royale.

Spoilers:
There was a lot of action, that's not bad. But fast cuts, swinging the camera randomly and being out of the focus made it difficult to watch all this action.  The plot was way too simple. There was no twists at all. Having read that in this movie Bond goes totally Rambo and kills in rage avenging his dead girl, I was somewhat surprised that Bond didn't really kill so much. All the killings that M ranted about, were pretty much "kill-or-be-killed" kind of situations. And when Bond finally had his chance for revenge, he just gave up. I wanted to see rage! RAGE! Ok, he killed the bad guy. But being the final boss fight, the match was so uneven --and uninteresting. Bond vs. squeeky nerd. The Greene didn't have a chance. A cool henchman would've been great, but instead of coolness he had went with the guy who wore a collar half of the movie and had an awful haircut.
