Post by: Foxy Brown on February 19, 2008, 10:18:47 AM
Fidel Castro announced his resignation as president of Cuba and commander-in-chief of Cuba's military on Tuesday, according to a letter published in the state-run newspaper, Granma. (http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/02/19/castro/index.html)

Good riddance. Unfortunately his brother seems to have a firm grip on power so we can only expect more of the same. With luck though, the Cubans will be able to rid themselves of these bums before too much longer.

It's about time.

Much as I respected the man for his integrity in ruling his country, he chose the wrong path. And as communism collapsed in the USSR and was changed in China he too should have changed. But by holding on to a failed ideology he did real damage to Cuba.
A real shame.

I agree that his brother will probably be the same. But the fact that Fidel is gone is a HUGE step for Cuba. It's history.

However, as powerful as he is: Castro is giving up the title, but I assure you he is still in control. The only way someone like Castro will give up his power is when his eyes close in death.

Yeah I was thinking the same. Who ever takes over will probably still be largely influenced by Castro.
