Health officials in the Philippines have issued a warning to people taking part in Easter crucifixion rituals. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7305522.stm)

Yes, please be careful when you're nailing yourselves to crosses. We wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.
I'm sorry if that offends anyone. But really. It's like warning the man jumping from the top of a building to wear a neck brace to protect his spine from injury.

Meh, logical thinking won't really do much when you're dealing with Filipinos (particularly ones that are really religious ones) during this time of year.
-
hahah, some really make it a yearly ritual as part of their beliefs,
but some local authorities turn into a crucifixion festival spectacle to entice tourists who are
looking for more than just the usual Holy Week celebrations.

Well I guess it could be a way to repent for their sins... since it is supposedly what "jesus did for the people"...
but to give thanks for their mother's recovery of tuberculosus? I think it would be more appropriate for you to take care of your body and not give it a easier chance to actually get disease or injure it.
If you really wanted to thank Jesus and God, maybe you shouldn't deface God's creations... even if it is yourself.

Kids, don“t try this

Yup, logical reasoning and all that just pretty much goes out with the window when it comes to most Filipinos and religion :-\

AHAHAHAHA
I'm surprised they weren't warned when they started this custom like a billion years ago. XD
Just don't tell my Lola I ate meat on Friday.
