But a childhood favorite of mine is RoboCop.

Not too up on American films, but these 2 are my faves from the 80's.
Repo Man (1984) - Original Theatrical Trailer in HD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLGrXGEMOSo#ws)
80's Trailers - "The Breakfast Club" (1985) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkX8J-FKndE#)

My favorites are pretty standard I think. I don't really remember going to the movies or anything till the early 90s stuff, I think Home Alone was the first movie I can recall going to see  but I do have a lot of nostalgia for a lot of 80s movies.
Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
Raiders of the lost Ark and Temple of Doom
Dark Crystal
The Princess Bride
The Goonies
E.T.
Glory
The Elephant Man
Ghostbusters
Predator
Batman
Airplane
The Shining

Beetlejuice
I love this movie and desperately miss the cartoon. I really love how Winona Ryder portrayed Lydia, even if it was a little darker than the cartoon, I loved it.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Breakfast Club and Adventures in Babysitting are some other movies that I favor.
