Title: Ugly Images of Asian Rivals Become Best Sellers in Japan
Post by: Foxy Brown on November 19, 2005, 08:24:00 PM
A young Japanese woman in the comic book "Hating the Korean Wave" exclaims, "It's not an exaggeration to say that Japan built the South Korea of today!" In another passage the book states that "there is nothing at all in Korean culture to be proud of."

In another comic book, "Introduction to China," which portrays the Chinese as a depraved people obsessed with cannibalism, a woman of Japanese origin says: "Take the China of today, its principles, thought, literature, art, science, institutions. There's nothing attractive." (http://www.nytimes.com/2005/11/19/international/asia/19comics.html?ei=5090&en=b0d32e601cb39284&ex=1290056400&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=all[/i)

And have you heard that comment from the Japanese Prime Minister that the relationship between Korea and China with Japan are very good because they admire jpop and animes.  After I heard about that comment, I pretty much was thinking should I switch to listening K-pop.  I am glad there are more K-pop stuff hosting in jpopsuki these days.

Just goes to show that people will be more interested in things that make themselves look good. If these comics had the opposite message, making Japan look inferior to Korea and China, they probably wouldn't have even made it to bookstore shelves.
