Title: R.I.P Majel Barrett Roddenberry [1932-2008]

KT sent me the news about this. As a Trek fan, this hurts a lot. Not only was Ms. Roddenberry a real classy lady, but she and her late husband (the late, great Gene Roddenberry) knew, believed in, and NEVER forgot the passion the fans had for the franchise.

LOS ANGELES – Majel Barrett Roddenberry, "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's widow who nurtured the legacy of the seminal science fiction TV series after his death, has died. She was 76. Roddenberry died of leukemia Thursday morning at her home in Bel-Air, said Sean Rossall, a family spokesman. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081218/ap_en_ot/obit_roddenberry_1)

Sad day for "Trek" fans.  The original crew is joining the Great Bird of the Galaxy in his eternal voyage.

Anyone saw the original pilot, "The Cage?"  Helluva show for the mid-60s, and Barrett was poised to be the first woman portraying a character of such high influence.  Of course market research showed that even WOMEN viewers thought that notion unbelievable.

My thoughts go out to her family, friends and all of us who are fans...

I just found out at another site.
Damn, a real loss for the Star Trek universe Nurse Chapel and Lwaxana Troi are classics!
And she's the freaking computer of the Enterprises!!!
At least we'll still get to hear her in the new movie.

That's sad. She made a huge contribution to Trek, but she was also huge in bringing other shows - like Earth: Final Conflict - which were great and would never have seen the screen without her.
