Title: PETA's campaign to rename fish 'sea kittens'
Post by: JFC on January 11, 2009, 05:39:05 AM
Now while I find their desire to bring attention to, and eventually end animal cruelty to be a rather noble one, someone REALLY needs to tell them that it's stunts like this one that lead to the problems they have with their public image.

PETA's campaign to rename fish 'sea kittens' - news.com.au

A CAMPAIGN to rename fish as "sea kittens" in order to improve their image has been ridiculed by the Federal Opposition.
Outspoken animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is using the "sea kitten" name as part of its push to restrict fishing.

"Nobody would hurt a sea kitten!" the group says on its website.

"People don't seem to like fish.

"We're going to start by retiring the old name for good.  (http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24891309-29277,00.html)

Silly. Fun website, but it's still awfully hard to emphasize with fish.

Especially when they go so well with lemon, butter, and/or tartar sauce. :)

In China they like to skin the animals alive.

maybe PETA is pathetic as well, I mean "sea kitten" = kitten living in sea, but kitten =/= live in sea since it will down. So does that make PETA an animal cruelty group since they want to drown kitten in sea?

Their cause is respectable, but the ways the present themselves and attempt to do things are such an easy invitation to ridicule. This is no exception. I did like that Cooking Mama, Mama Kills Animals though. Haha

Mmmm I love to eat sea kittens. I don't like PETA. I'm all for treating animals humanely, but they're so hypocritical... they'll put animals down (in non-humane ways, and dump the bodies in dumpsters afterwards!) but pull stunts like this to try to draw attention away from their corruption. Actually I don't really eat fish since it all just tastes like ocean to me, but it's still silly. Red Lobster should rename itself Sea Kittens!
