Maki doing a lesbian rol! :shock: (<- this is how I am right now). I guess she has no necessity to do this kind of rols unless as Masa said, her acting career is planed to get a push. I mean, it's a controversial rol and it wouldn't be given to anyone. Just imagine Aya, Nacchi or Rika with it, it just wouldn't fit. Maki is totally capable, matured and talented enough to manage this kind of complex characters. Even she as a person is complex!

I'm glad her acting career is getting developed again, she's an amazing actress and definitely one of the best in H!P and one I've ever seen; she adapts to different roles very well.
as Masa said, it's quite a controversial role which adds to the awesome-ness factor. I can't wait to download the episodes :heart: I have a feeling 2006 will start of very well.

Haha, judging from that clip, I wont be watching this for Goto's superb acting skills. That quick little dialogue scene was horrible. Hopefully she didn’t think this would jump start a serious acting career. It does look hot, though.

As I said, I can only come to a conclusion after watching the complete version. I can't judge without knowing the context of the scene. :P

By the way, I found 2 things. One is that I felt pretty cheezy when watching the scene of that girl getting her ear cut off (3:11). I feel like "not much feeling of pain is put in". Second is at Gocchin bed scene (2:35) that older woman looks like she is going to take off Gocchin's shirt (if you look carefully at her left hand she is reaching onto Gocchin's shirt and tries to pull it off).
Don't know if something good will happen in that scene??

i think the show was great, the story seems sad to me. and i dont blame Yumiko being superficial she had her reason. she already suffering a lot, u think going thru all that wil bring happiness? she admit she is lonely, and i can understand y.... :(
what i dun like its the reporter, does she have to do all this to her, yes, yumiko did sth wrong, but hey a beauty committing a crime is always forgiven hahahaha
b4 watching another show w/that reporter as one of the cast, i liked her becoz she was the cutest in the show, but now i need to re-think, any1 compares to gocchin equals zero for them. i don't want to talk so much about the show as yet, coz i think lots of ppl dun watch it as yet. so i dun want to spoil the fun like wat happen to me during R.P.G. i accidentally read the ending of the show and it spoiled my fun.. :evil:

i think gocchin really improve in acting once again, bcoz when she become "the famous Yumiko" she really gives me the feeling of a very cold person, very mean and its not becoz of the way she dressed, its a feeling given out. and "the normal not famous yumiko" gives out a feeling of innocent to begin with and then a want to get famous feeling given out. so i really enjoy her acting, its great! Bravo.
i have to admit the beginning of the show, where yumiko just ignore whatever that report said, and said I'm busy and walk away, it really scares me a bit :(

I was busy eyeballing gocchin's super tight jeans/pants on first half of the drama then freaked out by the bartender and glad gocchin didn't have a bed scene with her....second half...busy looking at gocchin's whole "package" :lol:
An hour and a half is too short for the story, a 3 hour movie would have been better, hope the DVD release has extra scenes. I gave an 8/10 on gocchin's performance, some scenes she nails it like a natural, some she misses. Her look, 10/10, as she becoming rich and famous, she glows :w00t:

The plot is nothing to write home about and the execution is very uneven, but the theme appeals to me and the central characters work well enough. Against my better judgement, I liked it. It starts out weak and goes on being so until about halfway through, but comes together fairly well by the end, and the more I think about it afterwards, the more it seems to me that its treatment of the theme wasn't all bad.
I think the way the beginning is set up is meant to convey a feeling of something big starting to unravel, but it didn't work for me. Instead, it felt like an overly long introduction of background material. The latter half pulls it into focus a bit, but not enough to justify devoting that much time to it. All of the really effective scenes are in the latter half, too. It is good to have an appropriate climax, but not at the expense of the greater part of the work.
And, yeah, the sexy Gottsan content definitely gets a 10/10.

I finally watched it today :D Alone, locked up in a room, without lights on. YEAH!!!
I dunno, I heard some complaints about the story, but I think it was e.g. much better than Koinu no Waltz (which doesn't make any sense to me, except for Nacchi's cuteness). And Koinu was a whole series :lol: So um. It kept me entertained, but I really, really need subs.
Gocchin was pretty awesome. I think I figured out her character pretty well. Except I'm unsure at what point or why did Yumiko turn so cold and selfish. I mean, she didn't seem like that when she was with the old woman for the first time... Uh huh, that's another thing. The timeline got kind of blurry to me x___x so I'm a bit confused because of that, too. Which woman was she with at first, the oldie or the hot short haired one?
OH WELL I LIKED IT MAKI GOTO IS VERY SEXY AND LIFE IS GOOD WHEN STUFF LIKE THIS COMES OUT.

I think the scene where she does the old woman chronologically follows the one where she picks her up from the rain (notice the bathrobe, and she does say it's her first time touching a woman), at which point she still lives with her boyfriend, whose dumping of her later drives her to the arms of the actress.
I'd say she starts to grow cold when she starts on her road to success. It's a happiness built on the misfortune of others, as one of the characters indirectly remarks later, I just don't remember which scene that was. She's been stepping over bodies to get where she is, starting from her mother, and copes with her guilt by killing her empathy.

I disagree. She's definitely shown leaving her boyfriend's apartment before she gets caught in the rain; it's the exact same place she enters in the breakup scene.

About the bath robe scene, I don't think they went beyond the gropping for that night. (My guess. LOL) So I still think that she slept with Miho first. The following scene, we see her looking up Tsuneko followed by another bed scene (2 of waking up together). That's how I see the sequence.
Well, if you consider the gropping scene as one, then I suppose you could interprete it as Tsuneko before Miho. :D

i waited until my mom and dad went to sleep at night, then i lock myself in my room, and lie on my bed to watch it. but on half of the show, i heard my dad woke up and went to the kitchen, so i quickly turn off my room's light and turn low the speakers volume, and watch in silent and dark, hahahaha
anyway watching the the show wasnt that confusing, but reading all these asking and explaining questions here makes me go dizzy~ @_@
the show was unexpectingly easy to understand, b4 watching the previews i thought i definitely need sub for this, but since i understand most of it, its kinda ok for me, or maybe bcoz i have repeated a couple of times every single night thats y i understand it (gosh im acting like pervert here) hahaha, well if there is subs im glad, if not its fine for me :P

I KNEW I had seen the old lady somewhere before! She's veteran dorama actress Manda Hisako. I've seen her as a guest on the classic Iron Chef. :lol:
She was a guest on that end-of-year speacial show (can't remember specifically which it is) where Maki did the Jitensha Otoko skit.

The numbers of the ratings today can't really be compared with the numbers from back then, as the demographics/tastes/preferences of the Japanese have changed. You have to remember too that two things have greatly changed since the older versions of this was aired:
1.) The population in Japan has increased greatly
2.) Chances are, the amount of choices on Japanese TV have also greatly increased.
Let's say that this modern version was/is aired in a time where the Japanese have a choice of, say, 50 different channels. The earlier versions were aired when the choice the Japanese would have had would have been, say, perhaps 10 channels. Bottom line, this version undoubtedly faced a lot more competition for veiwers than did the earlier ones. With so much more variety to choose from, you're bound to NOT have as many viewers for this version than was had with the earlier versions. With fewer choices back then, of course the older versions will look like they've "done better" in terms of ratings (at least when you look at the percentages).
The increased population, combined with the increased number of choices of channels/programs will make the averages look like they are smaller. Looking at the actual total number of people who watched (which in this case, adds up to about 10 million people) would be more accurate than looking at the percentages.

I think Yoshitsune mean, "Yoshitsune", which aired less than a year ago and snagged about 15%-20% of the raiting for its time slot each episode. But it was a period piece so no wonder it got a lot of ratings.
A lot of dramas can easily get 12-17% of the ratinsg each ep. "Nobuta wo Produce" got 17% shares on average. "1 L Namida" ended with 20% and got 14-15% on average. I thought that 9.5 was mediocre for ratings. Koinu Waltz stayed within the 8-10% and everyone said it did poorly. Considering the media following "Yubi", it could have done a lot better.

I don't think 9.5% was that bad. You can't really compared it to the previous one that draw 28.8%. At that time, the lesbian theme might be a taboo..so it draws alot of attention. But at this time in Japan (or anywhere) I don't think it is such a big deal anymore, so less the hype factor.
And also the fact that Gocchin is probably the only draw in the cast...(maybe also Hoshino Mari ^^) ....so I think 9.5% is decent. If they subsitute the cast with better choices, perhaps that would have help to boost the viewership. My 2 cents.

Nope. Most Japanese DVD do not contain subs. I don't think an English sub is avaliable for this drama yet.
