The Conference Finals hasn't even reached Game 1 and THE HYPE MACHINE began. Kobe Or Lebron?
NBA Legend Jerry West weighed in (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-random19-2009may19,0,4594265.story), Vitamin Water (http://www.facebook.com/vitaminwater) and Nike too, with these hilarious Muppet ads:

... so who is better KOBE OR LEBRON?!
Debate away! Talk smack about skill, personality, paychecks, etc.
-
I love 'em both. Kobe is def on top if you look at past achievements. What he done as a whole is pretty much epic. Hats off. Currently however. I'd give the edge to Bron. He's pretty much unstoppable. Gotta give it to him.
BUT! You know what the real truth is. Fuck 'em both. There's only room for one guy. My boy Wade. He eats Kobe's for lunch and shits Bron's for dinner. Anyone feel otherwise can kindly unzip my pants and enjoy the fine taste of greek schlong.
Nuff said. ;)
-
I'm not an NBA fan (i.e. I watch "Inside the NBA" just to see if Barkely will say something funny).
That said, I voted for LeBron. He's younger, prolly more marketable, more appealing, and more upside potential. LeBron is only 24 or 25 but damn he's been in the NBA for what seems like a LONG time and he has the aura of a veteran presence.
OT: Kobe is fun to watch in highlight clips too but boy there's a LOT of people out there who hate him. I wonder how Bill Simmons (ESPN.com's "Sports Guy") is going to profile him in his upcoming NBA tome?
-
I've always been more of a Kobe fan, but I gotta put my hands up and say at the moment James is the Man..
He's numbers speak for themselves.
I think Kobe as a whole has improved to a more team player, but when the going gets tough, he reverts back to his old ways, and that means a stat like 35 points with 1 assist...
U will win a scoring title like that but not a championship ^^
-
almost picked Fuck 'em both. not a big sports fan in general, less so NBA. Then I havent heard much neg about Lebron, Kobe comes off as an arrogand dickhead, so points to Lebron.
-
If i had to form a team around a player it would have to be LeBron. And its not only because of his in-game skills but also what he does when he's off the court. Dude seems mad chill and funny and just overall a cool guy, someone you would enjoy to be around.Like this for example. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x_FohpwRMM#ws-lq-lq2-hq-vhq-hd) Even tho they're a pro team it seems like they can just mess around with him and vice-versa, they kinda look like just a bunch of highschool buddies playing ball Lol.
Respect for both of em :thumbsup

LOL they working hard taking down Vitamain Water ads:
Comparing Kobe in his Legendary Prime is like comparing Larry Bird/Magic Johnson to a Michael Jordan losing and losing to the Pistons. Will they win titles? Who knows about Lebron.
Quick numbers:
- Kobe has played in 948 games
MJ played in 930 games (Chicago)
Magic played in 874 games (Pre-comeback)
Karl Malone played in 1476 games
Kareem in an incredible 1560 games.
and
Kobe became only the 2nd player in NBA history to drop 500 or more points 4 times in a single post-season.
The other? Jordan.
-
I like them both, really do. But Kobe all the way. You try to downplay Kobe's 3 rings. Until Lebron gets a ring, Kobe will be the best player in the NBA without question. And even if Lebron does get that ring, unless Lebron makes leaps & bounds in playing ability, Kobe most likely will stay as the NBA's best until he retires.
-
After seeing the Cavs get pretty effectively wiped out by the Magic, I feel a lot better about voting for Kobe.
I appreciate Lebron's freakish athleticism for what it allows him to do. Kobe himself thinks some of that stuff is plain ridiculous. I will not deny that Lebron's avg stats have been better than Kobe's, and all those who say Lebron > Kobe will be the first to bring that fact up.
What kind of gets me though, is that the same people will then also say Lebron does all this with less talent on his team. To me, the two facts are completely related. BECAUSE he has less talent on his team, his stats HAVE to be higher for the team to be at a competitive level. From what I understand, their entire offense runs through the man. No surprise then to me that he has higher PPG and APG than Kobe. As for RPG, I just want to say "shooting guard vs. forward". Is it easier to dominate your team's stat sheet when you're a great player on a so-so team or a great player on a good team? i.e. would Lebron have the same numbers if he had an in-his-prime Shaq on his team? I don't think so.
That's why I say you can't go just by the numbers here.
What about defense? Sure, Lebron's picked up his D by leaps and bounds since last year, but that's only after he saw the Black Mamba put on his boa constrictor act in the Olympics. Kobe's been All-Defensive first or second team 9 years out of his 13. That's only 3 years as a starter that he hasn't been All-Defensive selection. Meanwhile, Lebron has had 5 out of 6 years.
Just comparing the two right now is made harder by so many factors: differences in age, body type, position, team composition, etc. But until Lebron's achievements and not just his stats surpass Kobe's, Lebron might even gain the title of "Best in the NBA", but Kobe will have "Greatest in the NBA" for a looong time. (MJ notwithstanding)

Lil Dez Has a Word With LeBron About D12 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-63R0T6N1k#lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
People hate Kobe because he wants to be like Jordan. Did he jack his number? jack his chalk powder routine? Does he continually fail to be the most popular athlete in the world? If Kobe did what Lebron did, abandon his teammates at the press conference, he woulda been lynched.
LeBron doesn’t want to win more than Michael Jordan did, but Jordan could stop and shake a winner’s hand. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird could, too. Julius Erving did. Kobe Bryant(notes). Isiah Thomas led a walkout after losing to the Chicago Bulls after winning two NBA titles, but Joe Dumars never followed him. He stayed and shook Jordan’s hand, the way Jordan had always shook his when the Pistons had beaten him.

However. NBA.com don't agree:

-
Well there's your problem.
"Scoring Leaders: Points Per Game"
When they were all on the Olympic team with Kobe, everyone was inspired to step up their game.
D-Wade, Lebron, Carmelo, they all got to see firsthand the intensity of Kobe. He just does not accept weakness anywhere in his game and always finds something to work on.
-
is that last years stats  Kobe takes over a game when he needs to.
Lebron is such a douchebag now, god. The whole "I don't wanna talk about Free Agency anymore" when he always brings it up, when he shows up in a Yankees cap wanting to suck Jay-Z's dick. <insert shirenu's attentionwhore pic>
Now this:
LeBron wants all players to surrender 23
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4650907 (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4650907)
"He can't get the logo [Hall of Famer Jerry West's silhouette adorns the NBA's logo], and if he can't, something has to be done. I feel like no NBA player should wear 23. I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it."
What?? Just because Jordan came to see Dwayne Wade play, he wants EVERYONE to give up 23? What will The Queen do about his logo?
What's 6 mean? 2 x Dwayne Wade? Dr. J really got dissed man
Bottom line: Lebron can't stand that Kobe beats him in jersey sales.
-
6 = LeBron's Olympic team number.
Why not retire 32 or 33, huh?
-
My vote goes to The Mamba.
Kobe's the more proven one, IMHO, the rings notwithstanding.
When it really comes to taking over a game, Kobe knows how to get it done, but he also knows that he has teammates he can trust to get it done, as well.

No help from Kobe
(http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/4138/kobebryantandlebronjame.jpg)
If LeBron James(notes) is looking for advice on how to play with Shaquille O’Neal(notes), he’d be wasting his time asking Kobe Bryant.
“I clearly know, but I’m not saying nothing,” Bryant said. “That’s something that I had to do.”
So what did you do?
“I figured it out,” Bryant said. “That’s something that [James] needs to do. I won’t give him advice.”
Did James call you for advice on O’Neal?
“I won’t give him none. I’ve given him enough already.”

For the past few days I have been thinking about this comparison. Is Lebron better? Then I read this article about him at ESPN.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100120&sportCat=nba (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/100120&sportCat=nba)
And this article peaked my thinking. LeBron has similar size as Karl Malone, athleticism is amazing and he is only 25. His long range shooting has gotten way better over the years. And so spending too much time thinking about this, I have come to a realization. It is a scary and exciting thing to think how much better LeBron will get. He seemingly gets better literally every game.
While I maintain that Kobe is still the best player in the NBA, LeBron is the 2nd best player in the league but these past 2 seasons, he has closed that gap a lot for numero uno. (It pains me to say that, since Wade is my favorite player in the NBA.)
I would like to mention one thing. Wouldn't a LeBron/Wade rivalry make more sense? Kobe is older than the both of them and has more success than the both of them combined. It's more likely that Wade & LeBron are going to competing against each other longer than Kobe would against either one of them. Yes I did say that Kobe and LeBron are 1 & 2 in the NBA respectively but there is more to be had with a Wade/LeBron rivalry than a Kobe/LeBron one.
-
Even though Kobe has been in the league for 12 years, he's still only 30. There's still quite a few years left in him, and unfortunately for Wade, I think the conversation won't move away from Kobe vs LeBron until one of them retires. By then, we might be raving about some new talent that might be "the next Kobe" or "the next LeBron", or maybe someone else like Carmelo will be part of the next big "rivalry". As it is, while there is a bit of overlap between the SF and SG positions, Kobe and LeBron play different games, and comparisons are mostly for the sake of pitting #1 vs #2.
If you want to talk about what rivalries make more sense, I would argue that the best players who play the same position, i.e. Nash vs Paul vs Williams, or LeBron vs Carmelo, or Kobe vs Wade are more appropriate comparisons. Still, "more to be had" is a tough thing to pin down. In the end, #1 vs #2 will always capture the public imagination more than #2 vs #3, as well as sell more tickets and merchandise. At least from the league's and sponsors' points of view, isn't that what this is all about?

nothing new. Lebron whining like a bitch.

Kobe wouldn't be so classless.
-
Kobe.. hands down. I can't deny that Lebron is a good player but I can't stand his attitude.. too childish. He acts like a sore loser when he loses and when he wins he acts like he's the shit. Not to mention he acts like a goofball and dances around during games lol.
-
both are equally great, I would side with the Lakers more than the Cave based on supporting crew
Overall I hate Lakers so GO CAVS!
I voted can't decide
I vote LeBron because I don't like Lakers too! :)) In my opinion, LeBron is better than Kobe. Just look at some stats in their games. Kobe would score sometimes a lot in a game but the field goal attempts are a lot too =)) the ball is almost 90% in his hands. no offense to kobe fans XD
-
I'd say Kobe and Lebron are pretty close in terms of overall skill, talent and ability but I would say that Kobe is still a bit better than Lebron at least till Lebron wins some rings. I love Lebron and not taking anything from him but he hasn't won a ring yet, if you're that good you have to have a ring at least and Kobe currently has what 4? Lebron is like 1b if Kobe is 1a, they are close but Lebron hasn't overtaken kobe for the top spot yet, maybe if he wins this year's championship by knocking out the lakers in the finals, he'd be no1 in my rankings over Kobe. Till he wins though Kobe is still a bit better than him imo.
-
Kobe = Championship rings, nuff said.
-
Can't decide - Personalities aside, I think both players are very good.

Kobe all the way. I'm from Cleveland originally, so now Lebron can go away. Plus Kobe passes spellcheck, Lebron can't say that.
-
lebron. Lebron now has the same number of finals mvps as Kobe and surpasses him in MVPs.
-
Lebron all the way better :thumbup
-
I think both players are good, but i think Lebron a bit better :thumbup
-
lebronn is da best !!! :thumbup
-
kobe all the way, except the attitude :P
-
Kobe is too inconsistent... and never shot over 50% from the field so inefficient too. Lebron for those reasons (and more)
