Pop star Michael Jackson was taken by ambulance to a Los Angeles-area hospital Thursday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The singer was reported to be in cardiac arrest and paramedics had to perform CPR in the ambulance.

Later reports say he had stopped breathing.

Police in Los Angeles have blockaded streets around Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

The singer was preparing to begin touring again, including a concert series at London's O2 arena — in his first tour since 1997.

Jackson, whose hits include Thriller and Billy Jean, has been rehearsing in the Los Angeles area for the past two months.

There had been recent reports that Jackson was in poor health and his London concert series, billed as a farewell to London, was postponed by a few days.

However, the concerts quickly sold out, a testament to the enduring appeal of the singer known as the King of Pop.

Died :(

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Jackson had 13 number one hits during his solo career

I'm super in shock. Just got home from a group meeting, and suddenly find out he died... Somehow it felt like someone like him would never succumb to anything... =/

After living his whole life in the eyes of the media, I hope now he can finally rest in peace.

I was thinking...  his mom is still alive, right?  The first sibling (and youngest?) from the Jackson clan to die.  What a tremendous loss this must be for the family matriarch.

RIP.

I was at this concert, although I only heard most of it from outside.  I got in for the last 25 min though - a load of people smashed down one of the barriers and I managed to get in.  In front of me the police were hitting people in the face but I managed to get past unscathed.  I was just googling for information about the concert and found this - "By the end of the night police had made 11 arrests - for vehicle damage and ticketless fans trying to storm the fences."

It's gratifying that the tributes coming forth are of his musical legacy and his impact as a pop culture force.  I just hope people can also deal with the inevitable dredging of utter muck that may surface in the next several months or even years.  'Cause it's gonna happen.

Did you draw it on paper then scan it in, or draw it on the computer?

Anyone who's seen a news channel in the last few hours will know that they released a clip of the final rehearsal 2 days before he died.

Nifty site... and strangely hypnotic, I spaced out watching it for the last 10 minutes. XD

Some of the moonwalks are really clever.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty sweet.

Too many people seem to think the moonwalk is just walking backwards though XD  I know the moonwalk is not easy to do, but come onnnnn, at least slide the feet somehow XD

I thought the remembrance service was well done, considering how much time they had to organise it, get guests etc. Was more personal than I had expected, I just thought it was going to be a series of artists performing songs. Though by watching it, you'd think Michael only sung ballads, but then you have to remember the tone of the ceremony and besides, the Ushers, Justins of the world couldn't do justice to one of Michael's faster songs.
