Poison Ivy looks pretty good too, for obvious reasons
Don't forget, you've got the voices from the 90's Batman cartoon in this e.g. so Kevin Conroy reprises his role as Batman, Mark Hamill as the Joker etc. It's like living through my childhood all over again! Paul Dini, was also a primary episode writer for the 90's animated series and he's penned the story for this.
After the demo, I'm more interested in this game than ever.
-
I played the demo and man I'm anxious to play the full game now. If anything seeing Harley like that damn Joker has it good to have her. Though idk if the game will be 100% like the demo cause listen to the voices i only think they have Kevin Conroy as Batman I can't detect Mark Hamill in this Joker maybe a few more listens will be good. But I'm liking the game and the controls it's pretty good I can't wait to get my copy. I kinda wish the collector's edition with the batrang wasn't made out of plastic.
-
Yup after re watching the opening scene yeah it's Mark Hamill alright I guess age has caught up with him the laugh just isn't the same but he still got it.
-
Harley, Ivy, and Oracle are the same voices as well. This game looks so good, and mixed with Paul Dini (my mother-effing hero!), this = a total batgasm.
I can't WAIT.
-
just played the demo, its pretty awesome
-
I also just played the demo and I can't wait for the full game
-
waaaah, I've been waiting for the Demo and now I gotta wait another week since I'm no XBL gold member :banghead:
-
Demo was kinda monotone game play wise in my opinion. I hope the story and variety will be bigger in the full game.
Then of course. It's still Batman. It's still cool.
-
I've already pre-ordered the Collector's Edition for Xbox360!
-
Found this ultra sexy vid of how fluid and badass the combat can be in this game:
Combat Walkthrough (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MqpGj8OI0A#ws-lq-lq2-hq)
-
Finally got my hands on the demo - badass!
The german version has Christian Bale's voice which is a plus, also the other voices are really good.
Now I only have to decide if I go with the Normal Ed. or the Collectors Ed. ... that Batarang is so tempting XD
-
if only it wasn't made of plastic I'd get it instantly lol
-
I am late to the party but I got my hands on the demo and really enjoyed it.
The Detective view is badass
-
I got the latest "Game Informer" in the mail and the review was like 9.5 out of 10. They stated that ending was kind of a let down :nervous.
-
Awww snap, IGN reviewed the game and gave it a 9.3!
Batman: Arkham Asylum is the greatest comic book videogame of all time. This is an adult Dark Knight story that is well-told, packs some truly fun gameplay elements, has topnotch voice talent, and feel like it's part of Batman cannon. If I have to nitpick, I wish the cutscenes looked better as they can distract from the tale and that the AI was a bit more responsive, but those are tiny flaws that shouldn't distract from the big picture.
Rocksteady nailed what Batman is supposed to feel like. Fans, rejoice.

I'm so playing it when it comes out Tuesday..from what I read, everyone seems to love it too :)
-
I know I have said that 2k has the best promo items, but Eidos is giving that statement a run for its money after seeing this:

^That's so cool. I want one. Well here is the pictures to the collector's edition for the xbox360. I am a little disappointment in the quality of the batarang. Instead of a 100 it should have been 80 bucks.I shouldn't really complain I only paid like 20 bucks for mine :nervous

took the batarang out of the case and its pretty scratched up. You can't really remove the batarang from the stand.

The game itself, including the game manual (for some reason it wasn't inside the game case) and two stickers (on the back it has the two codes for Dem Bones and Crime Map)
The game play so far is fucking amazing.
-
I'm seriously thinking about reformatting my computer just so I can play this NOW.
Otherwise I need to wait a couple of weeks until I get a new one. But man, everything I've heard about it so far is GREAT.
-
Just got mine on the 360 and man it's freaking sweet!!!
-
^ me too..I'm glad they got the voices of the Animated Series(Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill) to do the voices..it's so awesome!
-
I bought the Collector's Edition today and playing the game now. It is so freaking sweet!
Note - The Batarang is supposed to be scratched up. Also my game manuals are outside of the box too.
-
Now that I made up my mind for the CE it's sold out everywhere or only available for out-of-this-world high prices, meh that's what I get for being so undecisive.

that's what happened to me for Street Fighter 4 CE. If you have the cash to spare, you should always buy the Collector's Edition but don't open it. Decide your mind if you really want it or not, and if not then sell it since usually someone is willing to pay for a higher price if the product is out of stock.

HOLY CRAP!!!! :w00t:
I definitely need to finish the first game! It has to be out next year..BRING IT ON!!!
-
FUCK YEAH! :cow:
-
YeaAaa glad they're making another Batman Arkham Asylum!!! I just finished it like two weeks ago lol.
-
I am the World's Greatest Detective, or so the achievement says.
-
Yay, finished it today (storymode only)
I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to the sequel. AA is such a great game, I fear they might screw up in part two introducing new, innovative ideas for the gameplay or stuff like that.
Well, let's hope for the best.
-
I love this game, I must say :D
-
After I was playing the demo I thought completing these combat challenges and even the main game itself would be easy. But that's not the case it seems. I either mistime my counters or don't react fast enough to keep the combo flowing. Which I like, the challenges should be hard like that, and the combat system is much more refined than I thought. So smooth too, the transition from punching to countering to throwing a quick batarang is practically seemless.
Great game so far, tons of atmosphere, liking the Riddler challenges too. I keep wondering what the riddles would sound like if Christian Bale's Batman said them. "Tweedledum SAW it, can you SEE it?" XD
How do you unlock more challenges? Is it as the story progresses or do you have to collect particular Riddler trophies or find a number of them?
-
The more Riddle's you solve the more challenges you get. Though Story Progression is also needed as some of the areas in those challenges you must have been to that area in the story I assuming. I can't wait for the 2nd game.
-
Well I got over 10% of the challenges so far so I would have thought they would have given me a new one by now. Must need to progress further into the story.
Gotta say, when you try to rescue the doctors, I planted two explosive gels, one right behind a guard, the other on a raised platform. I made an inverted takedown on one guy, waited til a mate of his ran up to see what's wrong when what do you know, walks right over my explosive gel. Detonate it, taking out him and the other guard I had planted the other gel to and finished off the remaining two, by glide kicking onto one and straight up beating the crap out of the other. At that moment, I was Batman, and it was awesome :batman:
-
Just finished it! It was awesome!! :w00t: Massively impressive game, the way they kept introducing new gadgets, the number of 'Holy shit how amazing is that?!' moments, combat, stealth. Loved it. Really looking forward to the sequel.
And I cleared the first playthrough getting all 240 riddles, plus the Arkham diaries, all without using the internet (despite what the Riddler thinks ). It was a game that was paced really well, you could just follow the story or decide to chill out and collect the trophies and audio logs. Hope they do the same for the next game.
Though the completionist in me doesn't want to stop. Want to do it again on Hard mode (just not right now), pick up a few achievements attached to the story that I missed and get full medals for all the challenges, preferably without video walkthroughs.
-
I still can't get the fighting parts, everything else, done lol
-
Arkham Asylum 2 now titled, Arkham City
(http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6435/bat11280x.th.jpg) (http://img5.imageshack.us/i/bat11280x.jpg/)(http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/640/bat21280.th.jpg) (http://img444.imageshack.us/i/bat21280.jpg/)
"Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security 'home' for all of Gotham City's thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds.
"Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight."
Hells yeh.
-
 I just jizz my pants expect nothing but greatness.
-
can't wait
:twothumbs
release is set for late 2011 so lots of time for the folks working on this game to make it as super dope or even better than the first!
what I want in this game:
- more gadgets
- more stealth
- more kickass villians(sp?)
what I don't want:
- GoW like fighting controls
i liked the fighting the way it was, simple and smooth, but I heard a lot of ppl complained about it for being too simple
-
Those people are quite frankly idiots as the combat system in AA is perhaps the most fluid battle system I've played, that at times you forget there's animations involved and it's all one effortless combo. And it's anything but simple when you aim for getting 3 stars in the combat challenges. Rocksteady needs to avoid listening to these fools and just keep doing what they're doing. If anything, I'd say the boss battles could be a little more interesting, but guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Catwoman seems to suggest there could be co-op? That would be pretty good if maybe it was like SC: Conviction, where you have a single player that's focused on Batman and co-op side missions to tackle as well.
-
Yeah!! even though I can't pass the hardest fighting challenges for the life of me I still want it to remain the same!
Plus if I had to learn a whole new system, that would suck XD
-
What if the Catwoman stuff isn't co-op but rather a 2nd playable character in the single player in the same way MGS 2 did except if that happens, I hope its a 50/50 split
-
Some new tidbits I found
- all gadgets from the first game are available from the beginning
- there will be more puzzle's
- Batman can interrogate some of the prisoners
and storywise
- Two-Face wants to execute Catwoman!!! (to gain respect among his fellow prisoners)
-
Oh snap! :o Man, with those little tidbits of info sound amazing. Batman interrogation, gotta like the sound of that. Can we do it like in The Dark Knight and smash their heads against a window? Where did you get the info coachie?
*EDIT*
Nevermind! Found the source, as well as a few more tidbits here (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=259460)
When's this out? Next August?! :banghead:

First thought that comes to mind would be something like RE5, where you have an AI partner accompanying you, or have a friend jump in. Except, that's fine for RE5, where the game's almost tackled into levels, or missions. Arkham Asylum had no such clear cut between acts, and I don't expect the new one to do the same otherwise it could be a bit of an atmosphere killer. So if that structure's kept the same, I wonder how you would get a friend to join in.
That's the only reason why I still think there will be a seperate co-op section if that's the case. :)
-
I was playing The Punisher on Xbox recently, and you could interrogate everyone, that was a cool feature :D
Where did you get the info coachie?
I'm totally picturing that interrogation scene from TDK with Coachie (Joker) and Tuffty (Batman) right there XD

Hey, that's cool.
I always had the suspicion there was more to this area, but I never tried blowing up the walls.
Where did you get the info coachie?
I only had a german source and was too lazy to search for an english one XD
Thanks for the link, they mention more stuff and more detailed than in my source.

LOL Pika
at least picture me as Harley and not the old, ugly Jokster :smhid
Autumn 2011 is a long time to wait, but they will put the time to good use and bring us an excellent sequel!
-
LOL Pika

That sits better in my mind too, you'd be a cute Harley!
(I only said Joker because of the scene in the movie <3)

Some leaked details about what happens early in the game as well as a few gameplay improvements. Obviously some early spoilers, but I found it not too bad. Having said that, I don't think I want to hear anymore about the story til I actually play it...a year from now :bleed eyes::
- Arkham City is four or five times larger than Arkham Asylum.
- The game starts by being briefed by Alfred, he explains the Two-Face vs Catwoman situation and you start heading to the area where the two are located.
- Batman is now much more agile, he is now able to plunge into a dive mid glide to accelerate flight.
- Two-Face has a gang roaming Arkham City, you will find them wearing face masks replicating their boss'.
- Criminals who aren't connected with any super villains roam the street.
- Story suggests that Professor Strange has been kidnapping Gotham citizens who are opposed to Arkham City.
- One and half years after the original game.
- Use new detective mode to discover a thugs super villain boss. This will be used to find The Riddlers men.
- The Riddler is in Arkham City, they hint you are almost certain to come face to face with him.
- Jack Ryder has been put into Arkham City due to him becoming to close to the truth on the city while working on an expose. Rocksteady were hesitant to reveal what Ryder had uncovered.
- Your first meeting with Two-Face is early on in the game. You are greeted with him displaying Catwoman tied up side down to a baying crowd of criminals. His two conflicting personalities being voiced out loud.
- Two-Face decides Catwoman's fate with the iconic coin toss. She gets lucky this time.
- The first confrontation with Two-Face results in Batman getting shot in the chest only for Catwoman to slip out of her chains and hit Two-Face into the acid she was about to be chucked into. A flirtatious conversation is then held between Catwoman and Batman only to be interrupted by a smiley face sniper dot rolling up Catwoman's suit. The shot is fired and misses her by a whisker.
- Your first detective mode experience is finding the bullet hole on the floor and figuring out its trajectory.
- Trajectory reveals the location of the shot. A bell tower housed by the Joker.
- Joker has a potentially fatal desease.
- Calendar Man is confirmed.
- The date and time effect your interaction with Calendar Man, set your console of PC's time a month ahead from last and you will receive a completely different conversation.
- Batman's launcher has received an upgrade, you can now stop at anytime instead of being forced to the end every time.
- You are pitted against a lot more thugs at once compared to the original game.
- Increased amount of combat animations.
- Phone booths ring only for thugs to stand by it, afraid to answer. Rumours going round suggest anyone that answers these calls end up dead.
- The mysterious caller ends up being Victor Zsasz, this starts one of many side quests in the game.
- To start the side quest you must follow a number of ringing phone boxes only to greeted with him at the final one.
- Co-Op seems to be hinted. Catwoman has very similar combat techniques to Batman when in game.
- Rocksteady suggest Crime Alley will make an appearance.
- Rocksteady insist that the only confirmed villains so far are the ones you have seen.
-

I got every star for the combat challenges :) Now for the last predator mission, which is really tough to get all 3 stars for. Can't work out how to engineer a scenario where I can drag away 3 guys over a railing.

I got my issue of Games tm recently which has Arkham City as the main feature:
(http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/5614/games103.png) (http://img251.imageshack.us/i/games103.png/)
Some really interesting facts which you can take out of it:
“When we started out on Arkham Asylum, our two real touchstones were to make a game that was as authentic as possible, and also a game that was great fun to, and to combine these two things. And out priorities are the same for Arkham City”
“Every decision we make here is based around Batman, and what Batman would do in the situation: does the game totally reflect who Batman is? Also, coming in to Arkham City, we wanted to make the same step up that we made with Arkham Asylum. We wanted to challenge ourselves. Internally, we wanted to make that same step up again, and the big thing we wanted improve really was this wish-fulfillment of being Batman on the streets of Gotham. How does it feel to glide through the streets of Gotham, taking on supervillains? That’s the thing that got us excited.”
“As a studio we’re not really driven by doing technology for the sake of it. We are a gameplay studio, so our first goal was always to ask how we can release a better Batman game. It’s always about our desire to make a better Batman experience.”
Sefton Hill on vehicles
“This is a funny one. There aren’t any playable vehicles in the game because what we’ve really focused on is Batman himself. We see him as the ultimate vehicles, if you like. Our drive has been to focus on Batman’s ability to get around. Obviously, you’re now in a much more expansive play area than you were in the first game, so a part of our development has been expanding Batman’s navigational abilities, adding different ways to glide around, new ways to use the grapple-boost from the top of buildings. That’s been a massive part of development, to give wish-fulfillment of feeling what it’s like to be Batman inside the district of Gotham City. Our focus was to expand Batman as a character rather than give you lots of different vehicles to go in.”
Sefton Hill on combat
“We’re not trying to completely revise the system because we had a lot of positive feedback from people who played the first game, and something that we wanted to do was create a system that was easy for people to get into but still had that depth to it. We wanted to expand and build upon that system, and make the second iteration of Freeflow rather than make a complete new combat system. So it will definitely be building on the sold structure that’s already there.”
“We’re adding a whole load of new moves for Batman. We have beatdown, which is the ability to do a quick, focussed attack on an enemy without knocking him down; we have environment counters where you can smash enemies into walls; we have combo counters where enemies can attack multiple times in one movie, multiple enemies can attack at once and you can take them down; you can do aerial attacks where you flip up off enemies into other enemies; you can do projectile counters where you parry thrown objects back at enemies. So we’re really expanding the number of moves that the player can do, but still building on the core system of ‘strike, counter, stun, evade’ that we had in the first game. As well as that, we’re also allowing the player to combo in all their gadgets. Something we didn't do completely in the first game was to totally integrate the different gadgets that you have into the Freeflow system.”
Sefton Hill on factions
“The different criminal factions are really interesting. When all of these people escaped from Arkham Asylum, you would think that it would leave to chaos, but what actually happened was that order formed as the Joker managed to recruit a number of inmates to follow him. It’s the same with Two Face and other characters within Arkham City. So the way it will work primarily is the that all these people will be working to support their own boss and their own criminal supervillain that leads them. But the player’s actions in the main story events will affect that. You’ll definitely see Batman and the player’s actions really affect Arkham City, and the structure and hierarchy of the gangs. That;s something that we though was really important.”
Sefton Hill on side-quests
“One of the key things we wanted to do more of was the idea of taking in optional side-stories as you play through the game. That;s a big new element of Arkham City, that while you do have the main narrative you also have these optional side-quests which feature different villains who have been locked up inside Arkham City. We tell their story, how they got there and how Batman interacts with the. How different people - for example Zsasz - how would he react when locked up here, and how Batman would interact with him? You can jump into those quests if you want to find out more about the world, as well as earn extra XP and upgrade rewards when doing so.”
Sefton Hill on Villains
“We’re really spoilt. We’re the cliched kid in the candy shop because there are so many great villains to choose from. But the story and characters are so important to us, that instead of picking villains we want to put in simply because we like them, we’re asking ourselves what is the best and most interesting story we can tell, and we’re picking villains who can challenge Batman and give the best dramatic beats for that story. It’s a great position to be in because we’ve got such a great Rogues’ Gallery, and that’s why we’re no introducing our own characters. Once we’d got a story and framework in place, we look at which villains can challenge Batman based around that story.”
“We are making the game for Batman fans, but also as a great introduction to Batman for those people who aren’t familiar with every aspect of the universe. We always provide the bios for every character and, when we introduce them, we always make sure that the player understands who they are, what motivates and differentiates them. That’s something that we’re always very mindful of, and we do a lot of testing just in case. We’re not just throwing a lot of faces at the player without them understanding who they are. They motivation behind these characters is so important to is that we’ll always spend a lot of time focusing on those elements. We’re not just trying to squeeze as many characters as we can into the game; we’re picking the ones that will tell the best story. Each of those characters will be there for a reason.”
Sefton Hill on boss battles
“Boss battles were interesting in Arkham Asylum. They were started quite late in development, so the first thing we wanted to do for Arkham City was to start them really early in production. Our focus this time is that each of these villains is going to try and challenge Batman in the way that they’re strongest. Batman is a great all-rounder, but these people are going to use what it is that makes them special, and use those abilities to take Batman down. So the main thing in terms of how we’re going to develop these, in terms of production, is that we’re spending a much greater proportion of our time on them. We’ve got some great boss fights lined up and some really surprising ones too.”
“Since everyone's inside Arkham City is technically already incarcerated, Batman can’t really arrest people and lock them up. So that creates an interesting dynamic between Batman and the villains. There are some friendly people there that you’ll have to help, such as the triage group that;s in there offering medical support to people, but at the same time there are also people in there who have their own agenda, and there are some fragile alliances that Batman will have to form in order to get through the night and survive. There will be some people in there whose objectives might temporarily line up with those of Batman,, so I think there’s an interesting dynamic there.”
Sefton Hill on Robin
“Yeah, I think you definitely can. There’s a checkered past for him, but I really feel that some of the latest iterations of the character in the comic book universe are really interesting and exciting. I don’t really want to say much more than that, but I definitely feel that, if ind right, he can be a fascinating character.”
Sefton Hill on Batman
“You never saw Bruce Wayne himself in the first game but I do feel that we still touched on his character, and that’s also something we’d like to develop for Arkham City, it’s something we’d like to develop for Arkham City. It’s really important to us that we let the player feel the drive, motivation and origins of what makes Batman who he is. For us, that’s what Bruce Wayne needs. It’s not about being this unstoppable fighting machine; it’s about understanding why he’s doing this, and what his limits are. There are obviously a lot of things we did in the first game to show that psychological aspect of Batman, and show who this man behind the mask is. That;s something that we’ll continue in the game because it’s something that really interests us. It differentiates Batman as a character.”

I think they can do Robin justice, definately. Certainly looking forward to see how the boss battles turn out.
Also, I got 100% complete on Arkham Asylum. Golds for combat and predator missions. Only need to complete it on hard for all the achievements :twothumbs

No vehicles is a defenite plus imho, but I'm still a bit concerned about the new combat system.
Still I will get this game, no matter what XD

I saw it yesterday. looks great~
Kinda scared. Anyone that can say the Joker is perfectly normal must be dangerous. :panic:

Looks like Robin may be a playable character in Arkham City (http://www.shoptonews.net/2011/06/13/robin-playable-in-arkham-city-limited-to-best-buy/)
But only for the challenge maps...and if you buy it from Best Buy.
-
Over 10 mins of gameplay including Catwoman. Looks incredible. Could do with fewer one-liners from Catwoman, but it's no big issue. Interrogating people as Batman seems to fit so perfectly with the character that you wonder why it wasn't even in the first game.

OMG! I just read that Castle's Detective Beckett aka Stana Katic will voice Talia al Ghul in AC!!! Just one more reason (at least for me)
to look forward to this game... errr let me rephrase that: GO CRAZY WITH ANTICIPATION!!!
-
It does look great, but the fact that both Catwoman and Batman did PERFECT fighting combos annoys me because I could never pull that off, and couldn't win the harder fighting challenges in the first game, at all
-
Everybody chill and allow me to break the ice. Mr.Freeze is in Arkham City. That's pretty cool.
Batman: Arkham City Mr. Freeze Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18LSLIbFV80#ws)
At least he doesn't seem like Batman & Robin's version of Mr.Freeze XD Actually looks and sounds good, looks like that boss battle could be pretty interesting too.
-
^ nice one XD
As cool as character introductions are I wish they would keep at least one character a secret so that there's still some surprise waiting when you encounter him/her/it XD

Something for the UK folks
Batman: AC Joker content Tesco exclusive (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-08-26-batman-ac-joker-content-tesco-exclusive)
-
See, now I think Arkham Asylum's getting too crazy with it's pre-DLC stuff. Not only are the Batman costumes retail specific, but so to is the supposed Robin costumes as well. Now I'd be missing out on a decent portion of the game, 4 hrs worth if the developers are to be believed, if I didn't buy it from Tescos?
I know Arkham City's not the only one, Red Dead Redemption and LA Noire have done the same, but when will publishers learn that this isn't the right way to entice people to buy their game? No wonder they bitch about new sales in decline when they do stuff like this, it just makes me feel like I'm not getting the complete package if I buy it somewhere else just because it may be cheaper. No wonder people don't buy games on Day One of release and just wait it out until it drops in price or a GOTY version, rather then shell out more money for when they eventually make all this pre-order DLC stuff become available at some point in the future. Feels like I'm being cheated out of it. Character skins is one thing, but additional gameplay is something different.
The best way to stop this kind of behaviour is to vote with my wallet and not buy the game, but I do want to play Arkam City for sure.

Batman Arkham City - the album (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-09-07-batman-arkham-city-the-album-announced)
Wonder if these songs play in the actual game or if this is more of an Image album to get you in the mood.

There's a bunch of previews out there now of journalists playing a cut section from the game. If you care about the story, don't read any of them. The amount of reveals that the marketing team has done previously has spoiled some of the bosses for me which sucks, but the one, massive tidbit of info from that preview is just beyond ridiculous to put out there now. Granted, it's from an early section of the game and developers are protective of releasing really key plot points in their story so I guess that it doesn't affect the story all that much before release, as crazy as that sounds. But still, it's a huge spoiler that's ruined any shock impact it would have on me (and it would for you too). I'm on a complete media blackout on this from here on in to prevent myself reading any more info.

Here is some pictures of my collector's edition. I haven't put up the rest of the pictures yet. (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.213170278749024.51091.100001681598094&type=1&l=08fdc39184)
-
^ a Batarang Controller :shocked how fucking awesome is that????
-
^ The controller didn't come with the collector's edition. I made the purchase like two days before the release of the game :nervous
-
I just plummeted down to the ground from a tall building into the middle of a gang of thugs where I proceeded to kick the crap out of them and then used the grapple gun to get away from there.
I'm the fucking Batman! :w00t: The beginning was very impressive, the place seems huge! So huge!! Playing it on Hard too as I'm up for a challenge, makes the fights more engaging than they would be if on Normal. Once I was in combat I got right back into the swing of things :D
-
Oh man I can't wait, game arrived yesterday, but I won't be able to play until tomorrow, too much RL stuff happening atm, waaaaah I want to be Batman NOW!!!!
-
Just beat the game this morning. I didn't expect that ending to happen is all I am going to say.
-
BATARANG RAGE (Batman Arkham City) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIBaZ-r1lA8#ws)
lol rage quits
-
Oh snap! Found out that the voice behind Two Face is none other than Troy Baker (Kanji from Persona 4, Yuri from Tales of Vesperia, Snow from FFXIII) and Penguin's voiced by Nolan North (Nathan from Uncharted, Desmond from Assassin's Creed, any voice in any video game you can think of). Didn't recognise them at all!
Did some exploring last night and kicked off my first side mission - Zsasz's. Seriously cool presentation for what is effectively a race to a location against time. It's more effective with the music, the premise and the fact that Zsasz sounds genuinely creepy.
-
Oh man I can't believe it!!!! The stupid, stupid post person delivered my game to the wrong parcel station!
That means no Batman for me for a few more days or however long it takes for the post service to correct that mistake and send my package to the right station or my home adress
-
^sorry to hear that. Are the challenge/hunter missions better than Arkham Asylum?
-
^ So much better. Not only are there twice as many combat/predator missions as in AA but you can also take them on as Catwoman or Robin (assuming you bought the game from the store that gives you Robin). Only unlocked one combat challenge so far but the score to get all 3 medals seems rather high, but it's possible. Just need to time things right and with the combat refinements (double counters/quickfire gadgets/beatdowns etc) it makes the combat scenarios more compelling and interesting than before. Also, and I've not unlocked one yet, but there's something called Riddler Campaigns. From what I've read they seem like predator/combat challenge rooms strung together but each time you clear one, they get more challenging by setting different handicaps against you (e.g. disabling special attacks).
It absolutely adds more value to the game, I can't wait to try and get every medal possible XD I'm talking with a friend at the moment playing the game. He thought the game was set after The Dark Knight  Now he's just asking me question after question. 'What do I do?' 'When do I get the Batman suit?' 'I've been told a bullet was shot and I have to scan it. What do I do?'

Some gems from Vinny 'Italian Stallion' Caravella on the recent Giant Bombcast on Arkham City
On the Batman comic bridging the story gap between Arkham Asylum and Arkham City as a pre-order bonus:
"They released a Batman comic?! What the fuck is all this co-marketing shit?!"
On Batman himself:
"He's kind of a dick, just a real big dick to a lot of people...you know for a guy that doesn't kill people, he hurts with his words."

Badass! I might get this when it becomes a deal someday :)

Collecting all these Riddler's trophies is a pain in my ass. I am almost done collecting them 80 something to go. Woooooooo :sweatdrop:
-
I just plummeted down to the ground from a tall building into the middle of a gang of thugs where I proceeded to kick the crap out of them and then used the grapple gun to get away from there.
Did the same for a side mission it looks like: resqueing the political prisoner (on my way to Cat Woman) :)
the place seems huge! So huge!!
It almost looks like a free-format map (probably not) but it sure looks not linear.
-
As a reminder to everyone, make sure to visit Calendar Man in the Courthouse today! It's one step towards getting that achievement. Want to know what happens?
*SLIGHT SPOILERS*
Not much really! He just tells a story and....that's it. Tells you to come back for Thanksgiving. Bit disappointing. I wasn't expecting an item or anything, but even a side mission opening up where he tells me he has a victim held somewhere and you have to find him before the day (in realtime) is finished. That would be cool. I dunno, maybe I'm expecting too much cause the game is already so good.

damn, these Riddler trophies are such trouble to get! I haven't even got to the ones where you have to glide onto them either.
Right now, I'm about to face Strange near the end of the game. My question is: when I beat it, do the trophies I have roll onto the next game or I have to play it all over again?
-
Supposedly, yes they do roll over. In fact, I hear when you beat the game you're dumped back into the city as you were, there's just no story missions this time round so you can clear any remaining side missions or find trophies.
-
^ haha, that was just what I came here to ask about as well :)
15% overall game progress and I haven't even met a boss yet and Bats looks already so beaten up, when I continue like this he'll be naked by the end of the game XD
-
Damn AR Challenges!!! Tuffty did you need help to pull them off or luck with the flying?
-
I was able to do the AR challenges without help but I did need a lot of perserverance! One in particular caused me no end of grief though, it's the one in Amusement Mile where you have to dive bomb and then pull up to fly through Joker's mouth and down a tunnel. Best bit of advice I can give there is that when you come out of the divebomb, don't flick on the analog stick to adjust yourself, just do nothing and the momentum should carry you on through.
-
Oh gaaawd, that AR Mission at the Steelmill was a royal pain in the ass!!!!
I have to admit, I watched a youtube vid, to get some hints how to do it (after hundreds of failed tries), but it still took me hours to do it.
All the others I did by myself.
Has anyone managed to get all the Riddler Trophies without help? I still have some left where I really have no clue how to get them.
-
Finally completed it. Wrapping up side missions now.
-
At 7% of the main missions currently, seems I now need to do some Cat-walking while Batman is 'down for the count' in the Riddlers office.
Beeting that one armed guy was problematic, took me a few tries to know what to do with him, on the final try I used him to knock out some of the other first, way easier then having to do it yourself :)
-
Completed it tonight. Holy crap those credits are long. 20 mins of boring black background, quiet music and a slow text crawl. Was waiting for the end until the last Catwoman episode started playing right there and then but I felt burned out for the night so I just called it quits. Great game, gonna get the remaining Riddler trophies, get all medals for Riddler Revenge stuff and maybe even try out New Game Plus while I'm at it.
-
Maybe I'm just being a dumbass, but can someone help me with something? When I beat the game it says I unlocked new costumes for Batman. Where are they? I heard they can be used in the Riddler Challenge maps (I can select Catwoman's alternate costumes just fine) but they're not there. Tried starting New Game +, not there either. Am I missing something?
-
Managed to take down the Riddler last night. There seems to be a misconception that you have to collect all of the Riddler trophies to find his hideout but I found it with trophies and riddles still remaining on the map. Granted, there are maybe 30 or so left for me to find and there are still challenge maps and campaigns still locked until I get them so I'll need to collect those.
For all the time and effort you need to do to collect the trophies, the final hideout is rather disappointing. Takes maybe 2 minutes to complete. It doesn't even require you to use gadgets in the same way that the other challenge rooms did. Was hoping for a boss fight or something, instead it winds up being the easiest challenge room of them all. Oh well.
-
^ the Catwoman Trophies also count towards the sum needed to unlock the riddler hideout.
-
At 75% of the Riddler side quest I have 80 more trophies/riddles to collect... nah this is getting to repetative for me to like.
Did all other side quests (except for the last part of the AR training), time to move on.
-
Unless you're an achievement freak or completionist then I would advise you not to do it. Watch what happens on Youtube, you'll see how much I was disappointed by the end of that quest.
-
Oh my god, the riddler's trophys were not worth collecting vs time in my opinion for an achievement. Some of them were incredibly hard to obtain without a youtube walk through or something.
-
Out of force of habit, I got all the Riddler trophies. Want to go back and clear the campaigns as Batman/Catwoman and then maybe go into New Game +. Just not right now.
Anyone got the new DLC yet?
Batman: Arkham City - Harley Quinn's Revenge Official Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXkuaCEXmiY#ws)
-
^ I bought the DLC on Monday. The campaign itself was super short and I felt that I didn't play as Robin for very long. It would switch between Batman and Robin.
-
Rumours have it the followup will be a prequel, back when Batman and Joker meet for the first time. (http://www.gametrailers.com/side-mission/21074/batman-arkham-city-followup-will-be-a-prequel-slightly-more-light-hearted)
Gotta say, if this is true, it sounds like a cop out. Don't know whether the team realised they wrote themselves into a hole after AC, or if it's fan backlash or orders from on high, but it feels like a let down. I just...why? Why prequels? Why, why, why? Pointless.
-
Ok, so the prequel Batman: Arkham Origins will already be out in October this year.
Also not Rocksteady is developing but Warner Bros. Montreal (wonder what Rocksteady is working on then)
Somehow I'm not feeling it yet, maybe after a first trailer, but prequel... meh.
Story
“Batman: Arkham Origins features and expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline set several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, the first two critically acclaimed games of the franchise. Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous criminals, the game showcases a young and unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight. As the story unfolds, players will meet many important characters for the first time and forge key relationships.”
-
Because if any character needs an origin story, it's Batman...

I'll believe it when I see it. Let's be honest, games don't really do a great job telling origin stories for established characters. There's that disconnect between narrative and gameplay that you see in games like AC3, Tomb Raider or the new DmC where logically, the character you are playing as shouldn't be this all powerful badass from the beginning but they are. Take Tomb Raider as an example. After killing a man for the first time and grieving in remorse over what she had done, Lara didn't have much problem popping headshots into a whole team of bad guys straight afterwards because the game forces you too.
Don't get me wrong, I think it'll be a solid game, but I wouldn't hold my breath about showing off a more inexperienced Batman because I can say with most certainty that you'll be able to fight bad guys just as flawlessly as you have done in the previous two Batman games from the get go.
I'm more hyped for the other game,Arkham Origins Blackgate personally. A 2.5D Metroidvania created by a studio founded by those who worked on my favourite game ever, Metroid Prime? You know there's pedigree there already and the setting and character fits the genre perfectly.
-
There are plenty of early Batman stories they can work off of, so that won't be a problem at all, watch Batman: Year One on Netflix or something, there's plenty they can work from..... but it's going to suck anyway because it's an entirely different team who have made 0 good games.
Which is a relief for me, as Rocksteady are a good developer, and Arkham City was full of problems as I have ranted about before, despite being a good game, leading me to never want to play a 3rd game by them, because it would be a bloated hell of annoyance and silly missions and find 100 of something, even more so than Arkham City.
So, now that this new dev is on board, it's going to suck, and I may play it once, then never again \o/
-
Is Arkham City a 3D glasses-only game? (mine is the Win7 PC version)
When I start it up, it's in red & cyan so that it's 3D when with 3D glasses, but I can't find anywhere the option to turn this off
-
There has to be an option because if I remember correctly, the 3D was added later as part of the GOTY edition I think. It shouldn't be compulsory. Wonder if your PC is maybe automatically detecting that somehow? I know you have done already, but just go through the menu again under gameplay or video because you should be able to turn it off.
-
New Bats gameplay over at gt... which I would like to embed, if it would let me, grrr.
http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/cuyg9t/batman--arkham-origins-e3-2013--walkthrough--stream- (http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/cuyg9t/batman--arkham-origins-e3-2013--walkthrough--stream-)
So basically it looks like AC, which I think is a good thing. I also like the high buildings and larger gameworld. These dynamic world events sound cool, that is if they're done right. I tend to take my time with games and explore everything and if I would find the same gang of thugs trying to break into the same bank for the third time in my playthrough, that would just feel stupid.
On the other side I can't see how they want to make Bats seem younger and more inexperienced, when he has all the same gadgets (and more) and fights as badass as in AC.
I have a feeling this will turn out like with the TR reboot, the gameplay not reflecting the cutscenes.
-

I'm glad someone else feels the same way I do. When this game got announced and they said it would be an inexperienced Batman, people were like 'Aw yeh! It'll be awesome! Always wanted to see a vulnerable Batman!' but that was never gonna happen. I even said as much in a topic here, saying that you're just gonna be just as good as beating up bad guys just the same way as before. That gameplay/narrative dissonance has really bothered me of late (this, the Tomb Raider reboot, Assassins Creed 3..) and I just wish there was a better solution.
Anyone want to comment about Nintendo's conference? Some decent looking games there like Bayonetta 2 (*drools*) and Project X but on the whole, I just felt they were playing really safe. It was disappointing to see Retro working on another Donkey Kong game. They've made one of my favourite games of all time in Metroid Prime and I wish they could do something new. Hell, even an HD Metroid game would be amazing. So while this year was ok, there might be good reason to be excited for next year where they will most likely show off new HD 3D Mario game and new HD Zelda game.
