We all love Scandal for who they are and what they do. However! They are still at the beginning of their career, and I expect them to develop musically. I'd like to discuss the things you feel they can improve in the future? In addition, what would you like to see them do?
Some of my thoughts:
- One thing I'm really missing is guitar solos! Their songs tend to have pretty normal structures and a nice guitar solo would add some variety. They have some lead stuff here and there, but I think they could develop it some more. I'm not asking for harmonized arpeggios
- I'd like to see their 'dark side' a bit more. That's probably my metal roots talking, but some faster parts or dark sounding parts could be cool. On the other hand, I guess they're not that sort of band.
- I don't like acoustic stuff, so I'm hoping they'll keep rocking for at least the next two years before doing some sort of acoustic set.
So, what do you think/like to see for Scandal in the future?

Hi there! I'm a new member here. I agree with you that they should do more guitar solos (although I like Mami doing it because for me, she's the one with the "rocker attitude" and she seems to really enjoy it.) Maybe we won't see the "dark side" anytime soon as they are not that kind of band but who knows, maybe they'll decide to do it for the LOL of it. As I have read from your post, you seem to know a lot about music (instruments or how they work or how they are played and how to sound good), well me on the other hand don't know that much. I'm just a listener. Sometimes I'm critical sometimes not. Maybe you'll find this reply dumb, you know I can't blame you.

^Welcome! be sure to fill out your profile (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=21449.0).
Yes, I don't expect to see their dark side any time soon. They do have some awesome drums parts in some songs, so that's good.

No reply is dumb, any input is appreciated. It's ok to just enjoy the music without thinking about other stuff, that's what I do as well :)

Things I hope~
- Same here, I hope they don't do acoustics and keep rocking. Their fast rocking songs was the one that attracted me in the first place.
- The choreography in their PV's never end. It always makes me smile seeing them move and dance around all at the same time.
- I want to see them perform in Rock In Japan Festival, I have many favorites performing there so it will be really cool to have them as an addition. =D
-
I've heard some acoustic in their songs. I'm not sure what song. I haven't seen the live acoustic performance yet so I'm going to download it now. I totally forgot about the choreography in their PV's. I'd definitely want to see more of that. I hope so too that they'd keep on rocking. It's just so amazing when they perform.

Hmm.... very interesting thing going on here~ :)
~Well, I'd love it if they could keep on making awesome rock songs, like DOLL and Shoujo S, and I hope they don't keep making ones like Yumemiru Tsubasa. :smhid That song let me down a bit. I know they really were just trying to change things up, but I think it's too early to make a move so drastic like that. Whatever they do is cool, but I'd really love to see more awesome rock songs.
~I actually would like to hear some acoustics, though. Like, acoustic versions of songs they've made. Kinda like the acoustic songs of Ayumi Hamasaki. She releases the regular versions, and then records acoustic versions. I think it would be cool just to have various versions.
~REMIXES! I know j-rock type songs aren't really remixed too much (I think...?), but it would be fantastic to see some remixes of their songs. After all, The Veronicas are really punk rock type artists, and yet they've released techno remixes~ >w< ;)
~Maybe.... less limited edition releases. I'm really sad that I can't get a limited edition of Shoujo S, because I would have loved to own the SCANDAL/Bleach poster that came with the one limited edition version. But alas, it's already sold out and out of print. I would gladly pay extra if they were to revive these, but that wouldn't be likely.
And that's it. Overall, I hope they try to maintain their status quo, yet... remixes would be nice. They would be really nice.

Regarding acoustic music I think they should do what YUI has been doing (every YUI single has an acoustic version of her previous single). Frankly speaking I'm not a big fan of acoustic rock but I would still love to hear Scandal doing an MTV Unplugged kinda concert :)
Oh yeah! I've been wondering how long will they keep wearing school uniforms. I really love their outfits but I guess they can't dress up as school girls forever...
-
^ Haha, I can just picture them now.... 35 years old, still wearing too-short skirts, married, with kids.... I dunno. That would be funny if they tried to keep it going.
Personally, I think they ought to drop the schoolgirl look sooner than....well, they have to. I would love to see them in regular clothes more often, like those cute outfits they had on at Shiroten~ But their whole "thing" is kinda schoolgirl uniforms, as someone had said on Jpop music, was it? But yeah... it's kinda their trademark, and I don't think they'll be too quick to do away with it~ ;)

They can and will! Don't take away my precious seifukus :nervous
+1 on the choreography. I really like that and it sets them apart from other girl rock bands.
edit: I want more limited editions :P I don't buy CDs if they don't come with any bonus items anymore.
-
Maybe keep the uniforms for 2 or 3 more years (I know its kinda long) until they switch to some other uniforms they'd like.
Yumemiru Tsubasa was kinda off with their "Garage Rock" genre. I don't know if I'm right about the genre.
The choreography there made the difference.

maybe they can start using wireless guitar lol
they're too old fashioned :P

I Think wireless guitars might cause alot of problems..imagine playing the music halfway, and then *Poof* no more sound..Lawl

About the uniform. I think also they won't go with that outfit for too long, maybe after Rina graduates its time also to graduate from uniform outfit. I like the uniform outfit but whenever I see their pics in their Shiroten days, I want to see them in casual wear or maybe similar outfits like in some of the Shiroten pics.
I still don't want some acoustics. Yeah YUI has many acoustics, I like it but I hardly listen to it, I like fast-rocking more. But it's up to them, who knows I might like them anyways. :D

So, 2009 is almost over. It's been a great year for Scandal! First album and good national exposure. Pretty good cd sales. it's definitely their break-through year.
What do you think will happen in 2010? I think 2010 will make or break their career. They need at least two kick-ass singles.
Based on the mature vibe of the album and the clothing line and stuff I'd say the record company is willing to invest in them, so I'm expecting to see some cool releases. I'm not expecting the second album in 2010. The main question is whether they will develop into a overproduced / electronic / poppy rockband or that they will stick to their roots with 'simple' but effective rock songs.
-
well, is good if SCANDAL can introduce more different types of rockbands as this will mean they r very dimensional but to be honest, i would rather them to stick onto the current way now. is simple, the songs are all directed from their hearts. when i listen to their songs, can imagine how they feel also. :P
-
2009 was a pretty good year for SCANDAL. I imagine they can only get more popular in the following year. In 2010, I can see a lot more TV exposure. I would expect a few more singles and an album towards the end of the year. As far as their music goes, I think the formula is good as it is for now. However, I think they should start experimenting with different sounds a little bit.
A big thing for me that I would like to see are live performances. Something like a big tour that hits major venues would help boost their popularity quite a bit. What would be really exciting is if they can land a spot at a stage in the Rock In Japan Festival.
-
or make a live at budoukan would defitnely boost their reputation to the max~
-
I just wish them continued fanbase growth and success. I've decided to add SCANDAL to my list of artists I try to buy stuff from as it comes out. I've always thought of them as a cool group, but their last few singles have totally won me over. As for their clothing, I admit that I hope short skirts remain in their future. The only thing that matches their awesome band skills is how hawt they are. XD
-
Yeah, imo the clothing is a big part of their image. I hope they keep it like that.
Hitting some big venues would be best. Show the nation the power of ROCK :D
I just hope the record company isn't gonna 'milk' them. I.e. too much releases in a short period of time, which would lead to overkill.
