Bayonetta (ベヨネッタ, Beyonetta?) is an upcoming action game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (PS3) game consoles, directed by Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe series creator Hideki Kamiya at Platinum Games in cooperation with its future publisher Sega. Set in a fictional city in Europe, the game will center on its title character Bayonetta, who can wield four handguns—among other weapons—and perform magical attacks to defeat various enemies. The game will have five difficulty settings; its two easiest ones will contain a game mode playable with only one button, similar to a mode Kamiya used in Devil May Cry. Its characters were designed with modern style and fashion in mind, while its music is largely upbeat and feminine.

The game has been promoted through a television commercial with Japanese pop singer MiChi, look-alike searches, a theme for the Google Chrome Web browser, and an upcoming photo book and soundtracks. Critical reviews of pre-release versions have praised its easily learned moves, fast pace, boss battles, "Witch Mode" slowdown mechanic, and character and stage designs. However, they lamented inconsistent frame rates, duller graphics, and technical issues in its PS3 port, as well as its use of camera angles in both versions.

From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayonetta)

Found out about it from a post Tuffty made. I thought she looked hot, but wasn't in a video game mood so I didn't check it out. Recently I've been looking for a game to play and checked some videos of this and now I want it bad. It looks really fun and Bayonetta is hot (Long black hair, glasses, gun heels ). I spent a lot of last night and this morning looking at stuff. I'm wondering how I'll take it though. I've tried to play Devil May Cray 3 like three or four times and always had trouble getting into it. I love how crazy stuff is.

Some hotness...

Awesome!

Giant Bomb have an interesting video preview based on the demo too (http://www.giantbomb.com/quick-look-bayonetta-demo/17-1480/)

Based on other people's comments though, it looks like it's really unpopular with a majority saying it's not sexy or it's too OTT. Speaking as someone who had a big smile on their face when watching Dante from DMC surf on a missile or ride a motorcycle up a building and then swing it around like a sword smacking demons mid-air, I can safely say the crazier the better. They had me sold when I saw an attack was a dragon made of hair. Admire Hideki Kamiya's work too, so it's all good. I thought games were meant to be fun anyway. The less brown/grey first person shooters with bald space marines and a 'realistic physics engine', the better. Same guys bemoaning this probably whooped for joy when they heard Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the PS3 had sixaxis control to shake women's boobs. It's double standards once again, Dante can act suave, confident and throw in a little sexual inneuendo here and there and nobody cares, but when a female character does it, then she's branded a slut.

Anyway, rant over XD It looks like the exact sort of game I could just go back to again and again.

...I can safely say the crazier the better.
YEAH! FUCK REALISM!:P Me and my brother were talking about that last night. We to see totally crazy things instead of shit that's just trying to imitate real life. I kept getting more and more excited for it with every video I watched. The giant hair dragon, Heaven Stiletto Stomp (I don't know what it's actually called), and the fight on the Falling Clocktower were all really crazy. I've been sick of all these tough guy characters and dark, serious games for so long. I think her sexiness is there, but it's more done in a fun way, not so serious. The game is rated M and there is some brief nudity, but this seems different to me. Like when other games games have thrown in lots of gore, swearing, or nudity, it just feels like their only reason is to make the game tough or cool. I think I was going somewhere with this, but I got distracted and lost it.

Whatever, here's some real life Batonetta-ness

This game is awesome! Almost everyday I play the demo on my PS3, it's like DMC times 10, it's that good!
It has already scored 40 in famitsu (Xbox version and 38 for PS3). The only reason I won't be importing the JAP version is because it's priced at 7900 yen, so I'll wait until January when it'll be 59 dollars.

I put a reserve down for mine yesterday. I want the posters that come with it. I'm thinking about getting at least the art book too. I've seen two other guides, but I don't know about getting them. I've heard people talk a lot about the soundtrack, but I've only clearly heard one song, I did like it though.

Some screencaps of Bayonetta's alternate costumes you can unlock in the game (http://kotaku.com/5390604/bayonettas-secret-costumes/gallery/)

Only briefly glanced over them to see what they look like, but leaving them until I actually get the game, which looks incredibly likely.

Any details on why the PS3 version is allegedly inferior? I remember when there were clear and decisive differences between the SNES and Genesis versions of multiplatform games. So I'm rather impressed at how well some of the third parties have made their multi-platform games indistinguishable between versions in this generation. It seems very sloppy to leave one version clearly inferior to another when the standard has been set so high.

^ I think I read somewhere that it was due to a small framerate issue.

I just realized that this will be the first game I am going to buy in over a year. The last one was Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia last September.

There was an article back during E3 where the Platinum guy said they had just sent the game assets to Sega for the PS3 version and I remembered thinking "Holy shit they can do it that fast?". Guess it needed more time than that to get up to snuff.

Anyway I tried the demo a while back and it seemed like it could be pretty good even though I'm usually more into the adventure like action games rather than "pure" action games. It's one of those games where there's so much going on so fast that you can't tell what the heck is going on but there are enemies everywhere getting eviscerated in a flashy manner. :P

V, the Japanese gonzo adult video maker behind titles like Would You Like To Get An Enema Until You Poop? and I Saw A Bowel Movement!, has dubbed Bayonetta as the "Number 1 Erotic Actress of 2009".

The site's official blog calls Bayonetta's revealing hair moves "erotic".

"This right here is high-grade peeping!" says staff blog. And if anyone knew high grade pooping, it would be V — make that peeping.

It seems very sloppy to leave one version clearly inferior to another when the standard has been set so high.

As mentioned, the framerate wasn't as smooth (as high) as teh 360 version, and some textures weren't as detailed.
But some people have been saying that since the famitsu review, only the textures that are a little worse, but the framerate has been issued.

I have the demo and personally, the ps3 versions looks better than Devil May Cry 4 if it helps in any way.
I am a sucker for graphics, but in these kind of games, I'd rather use the PS2/PS3 controller over the Xbox.
I think you can't go wrong any way, only if you don't get the game !  XD

Taken fromEurogamer's review: (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/bayonetta-import-review)

Quote
Rather than attempting to merely recreate Devil May Cry's successes in Bayonetta, Kamiya's bravely stripped away all of the dead weight from his initial template, ruthlessly streamlining the form and function to deliver something at once fresh and familiar. It's also, unquestionably, the greatest game yet to spill from this niche.

I hear the PS3 version suffers from some technical issues, even after post-launch, which they're trying to go out of their way to fix.

As far as I know it is true, but from what I've heard it isn't as bad as the demo available in the Japanese PSN.

This is mainly the reason I'm waiting for the US release to buy this game, maybe they fix same of the issues, and of course, it's 20 dollars less, compared to the 79 dollars japanese version.

Maxim held a contest for those to dress up as Bayonetta and the best one would receive a HD set up. Well they just found their winner: (http://www.maxim.com/gaming/bfg/85229/bayonetta-contest-winner-announced.html)

About the game itself, it's receiving high score reviews all over the place, most notably with Famitsu giving it a perfect 40/40 and EDGE magazine giving it a perfect 10. I can practically hear the naysayer's sharpening their knives to prove otherwise. "Ugh the wall textures don't look realistic so it doesn't deserve a 10!"

I was going through the forum in Gamefaqs and in the forums of Platinum Games (creators of the game) and they said they are using the time waiting for the US/EU release to address the issues present in the PS3 version of the game !

I can't guarantee this is confirmed, but it came from too sources, and a guy received an e-mail from SEGA saying they are working on the game, so if you didn't import it, like me, chances are you'll get a better product !

The game's getting crazy reviews at the minute, reaching a 94 average on metacritic. Seems reviews for the PS3 version highlight that not much, if anything, has changed from the Japanese release so you're going to see some performance issues.

I'm hoping they do finalize some of the performance issues. The IGN review criticized them for that, but it never said what version of the game was being reviewed.

Platinum games is Shinji Mikami's new company, and the Bayonetta producer is the DMC producer, so that could have something to do with it :D

Plus DMC1 was made from the prototype game for RE4, so that's why it's my favorite of the series

Good to see that this is getting TV advertising over here in the UK, I saw it first this morning:

TV Ad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8strvZ404Y#ws)

Though I'd like to think the games drought over the past few weeks will cause a huge demand for this, I don't think it will sell very well. Certainly not here in the UK where it's dominated by either Modern Warfare or casual Wii games.

Ran into one RE reference and a Viewtiful Joe reference today. I meant to play for just a about 20 mins before The Office came on but ended up playing for about an hour and a half. There's never really a good place to quit playing since there's always so much ass to be kicked.

Edit: Just got another reference. [bgcolor=#ffffff]Capcom ladies: Claire, Trish, and Sylvia.

Finished my 1st play through of bayonetta on normal difficulty yesterday.  Seemed quite difficult actually, lol.  Going through on easy now for some halos to buy some of rodin's stuff.

Man I love this game. But sadly I'm not playing it regularly, for two reasons:
. it's hotter than hell here in my city, over 40 ºC most days, so it takes my mood away, especially when I'm scared of my friend's xbox dying on me.
. I also bought FFXIII, and since I'm not only an RPG fan but even more an FF fan it definitively is a hard competition.

But regardless, this game is a blast to play, it already made me forget about all the other of its genre coming: GoW3, Dante's Inferno, and the one that were released. Only after playing the demo of Bayonetta made me not want to buy anyomore Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Even though I have a ps3 I'd recommend anyone to play it on the Xbox 360. I wouldn't be able to play on it if it weren't for a great friend of mine who was kind enough to lend me his console. (It had a x360 but it broke 3 times, so anyone can understand how scared I am of simply turning it on).
But after seeing and playing the two versions, I'd say go with the 360 one, way smoother, visuals are clearer but most importantly the loading which is non-existent.

And like arun.yothin said, I just can't get enough of her voice, it's so sexy and charming. Rodin is pretty funny too, everytime I enter at hell's gate and he says something I star laughing!

It's already January and this one may be one strong contender for game of the year!

Oh man I love this game! I've fought angels on a clock tower as it's hurtling down a cliff, summoned a dragon made of hair to eat a large enemy and fought a two headed dragon in the sky as it ripped a temple off it's foundations. And it's only at Chapter 3! :o Bayonetta's a great character, that moment when she kicked a rock into the dragon's face as it was apologising to her, just because she wouldn't accept it, was complete badass. I just grin from ear to ear when playing it.

I'm noticing references all the time. The halos being the most obvious, but then I hear Magic Sound Shower in one cutscene, and Rodin telling Bayonetta he's not willing to put a chainsaw on her arm (Madworld). And there will probably be more to come which I'll totally miss. Also I didn't realise that the weapons you get after collecting the Hymn disks were just given to you, I thought you had to buy them, which means there's so many combat possibilities already and I'm still flexing out the options with Scarborough Fair!

I can't get enough of her voice.

It's pretty sweet. "Bust a cap in yo ass" XD Also, managed to get a Platinum trophy in the prologue (don't ask me how) and genuinely laughed out loud when she said "I should have been a pole dancer!"

For sheer ridiculousness, nothing beats the endgame (spoiler): you kick God's ass, then hurtle the pieces of its body into the sun; and you get to CONTROL the flight path of God's body through the solar system as you do so.

I haven't played this much lately (so many other games right now, and besides, I've already beaten the game three or four times), but it's so much damn fun. Like, it's so much sheer fun that my brain doesn't even process the fanservice (like the alternate costumes, or any of that stuff). Right now it and Mass Effect 2 are my candidates for Game of the Year, though I'm still waiting on Final Fantasy XIII.

As for Rodin, I think my favorite line of his is when he says, "Yo, check this out: 'Whaddaya buyin'?' Hah! I heard that in a game once!"

Oh man, I just completed chapter 4, the boss battle with Fortitudo, and it was sick! Bayonetta running her mouth and when she lets her hair down, she means business! Tossing that dragon around like it was nothing! I wondered why whenever I dodged a few of his attacks at his final stage that it wasn't going into Witch Time when I noticed, the whole fight at that point is in Witch Time. Badass, that was a great boss fight.

Gotta learn to be patient though, I keep getting my combo broken and I get frustrated when it happens, even though I'm fighting new enemies and trying out new weapons and moves all the time. Maybe it' cause I spent a lot of time with DMC4. Shouldn't let it get to me now, I can try aiming for Platinum medals later.

Right now my preferred weapon set is Scarborough Fair for Set A and the sword with the shotgun boots for Set B. I tried the whip but it keeps getting blocked from these new monsters I'm fighting.

I got today in chapter XIV, only two more to go. I gotta say I LOVE this game! These last boss battles, and stages were simply fantastic!
since Uncharted 2 and Bayonetta I didn't have that much fun, and "sensation of AWE" in such a long time. If I were to point, I'd say Shadow of the Colossus.

This game is one that's worth every minute of my time. I'm already checking some guides on how to replay the game making lots of Halos.
Something about 500+ to 5millions in 10 minutes, of course, depending on your equip and all.

If you don't know there's this one super easy, right in chapter 1

My favorite set is the sword with Odette. I've seen numerous people swear by the Sgt. Kilgore combo, but that's a bit too slow for me.

One thing I love about the game is its replayability. I had more fun going through and unlocking crap, and then using that stuff to go through the game over and over again. And I haven't even cheated to get some of the higher-end weapons and accessories!

I know what you mean! I'm at the last stage, and yet can't control myself to start replaying it.
Comparing this game to Devil May Cry 4 makes DMC4 feels like slow motion.

It just made me lose interest in God of War 3, just for how great the fighting and controls are.

Sad thing, the infamous "convert to ps3 problem" may have made an impact on the game sales. While they are not bad, it's nowhere near as DMC4 and this game is many times better.
If Sega would've just waited and released it a month later, with the ps3 problems fixed (like the patch did now), it wouldn't have had this reputation, that I believe not only hurt PS3 but 360 sales as well.

While I'm playing both versions, one original and the other pirated, and the differences are noticeable, you can have a blast with either one.
I do hope Sega releases a "Special" version by the end of the year, more level, and better porting should help this gem to sell more, because I want so badly a sequel to it !

You filthy pirate!! :P

I'm a massive fan of DMC4, it's one of the only 2 games I've got full Gamerscore for, but even I'll say that Bayonetta, at 5 Chapters in, is crazier than the whole of DMC4. I mean, she just had that boss battle with Jeanne in the rain, and she can now transform into a panther.....dude...what?

Also, I really struggled on that Chapter! I've never died so much, those Grace and Glory enemy types are an absolute pain, especially the one who screams and stuns you. I really must learn to take the time, lay back on the combo thrashing for a while, and dodge at the right time before wailing on them. I came across my first Alfheim portal in that Chapter too (which I'm sure I've missed others in earlier chapters), it's where you have a limited number of punches and kicks. Couldn't do it. I think I'll have the sword equipped next time and charge it up when I activate Witch Time.

Get used to hating them...especially if you play on the harder difficulties! Those are one of the few enemies I'll equip Lt. Kilgore (messed up the rank in my last post); I'll just jump up and launch projectiles at those fuckers.

I started to use a guide to find some of the Alfheim portals because I couldn't for the life of me figure out where many of them were -- I never thought to backtrack! I think I've completed just over half of them now. (And yeah, I think your proposed strategy is what I used for that particular Alfheim; Witch Time + charged sword attack.)

The most recent Alfheim I tried was one where you had to do 5 successful torture attacks, and there are three or four rounds of enemies. One time I was, literally, one hit from succeeding, when the enemy got a cheap shot in on me and I died. I was sooo pissed. But I can't stay mad at this game forever; I'm sure I'll go back to it once I'm done with my current backlog of games.

lol I love and hate the Alfheim portals. I love having the conditions to mix things up, but I hate how playing them can really mess up your time for the level. I spent about an hour trying to do one where you could only use Wicked Weave attacks.

While I was playing, I was already looking forward to playing again to go back and buy everything else. I bought two costumes (I actually bought all the others, but never actually saved it and accidentally wrote over my last checkpoint so I lost my costumes and about 5 levels i beat on Hard) and a few accessories, but I've lost most of the interest in buying everything. I'm still playing just to play though. I was playing on Hard at first, but I've been playing some of the levels on Normal to get better scores since I understand the game more.

Come on, you can't blame me ?  :P Since I got one version original I though, well, I'll just play the better version for free  :D

But about DMC4. It's not that I didn't like but after playing DMC3, which is so damn good, I felt like DMC4 was a step down.
The controls in DMC4 are better, much more fluid and all, but the game itself is so repetitive. I think I only didn't beat it because the game kept giving some weird errors on my PC, if I took too long to finish some stages the game would start giving many bugs and than freeze not just the game, but the PC itself.

In my old 360 I ended up not playing it. Then when I bought my ps3 I borrowed from a friend, and downloaded a save to go to the stage I had stopped but it wasn't the same anymore.

But this is the Bayonetta thread, not DMC, back to Bayonetta, I've just beaten it!
This game just got in my book of all time favorites. The final boss battle, OMG it's incredible!!!! The characters are so fun, I really hope Sega makes a sequel, together with Kamiya.

Isn't it, though? I mean, it's a fairly old trope (fighting God), but it's so well-done, and just a great fight -- very epic. Plus I got a kick out of the fact that after you beat the game you still aren't done, because there are the bonus fights during the credits sequence itself! I also thought it was kind of neat that the credits started rolling -- and then stopped so you could get rid of Jubileus once and for all.

(Obvious warning: spoilers about the endgame are above.)

Just saw the ending too! :twothumbs

Don't know if you guys did this, but I kept reading the Angel's book everytime a new one was updated.
It was really interesting how the angels sounded like such good guys, while your summoned bunch are described like monsters from hell... oh, wait! :P

Some of my fave moments of the game was:
1. Of course the boss fights! I said before I didn't like the trend of quicktime events in recent games. But Bayonetta really found a great balance of epic scene/timing/and control, making some pretty memorable stuff!
Well, I still died 2-3 times over in most of those cheap '2 button press or Game Over' spots. but it's 97% FANTASTIC!!

2. When finishing off Golem, the Summoned arms started playing volleyball.. and failed. Totally unexpected!

Hee's their developer blog, it might be an interesting read:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kamiya-san(Director): Hey Kudo, when Bayonetta gets damaged…
Kudo (Effects Designer): Yeah.
Kamiya-san: …We should do something special with that.
Kudo: Yeah, we should.
Kamiya-san: Maybe something like Okami’s hit effects, where flower petals flew off.
Kudo: Yep! That’s a great idea. So Bayonetta would use…
Kamiya-san: A rose, of course.
Kudo: OK. But it’s damage, right? So isn’t there supposed to be blood?
Kamiya-san: If it isn’t pretty, then it isn’t Bayonetta!! Even the blood that flows out of her body can be turned into a rose with magic!!
Kudo: Whoa!!

Not yet, I just completed that chapter which I think is no.13. How many chapters are there in all? I imagine there can't be that many left. I almost feel like I don't want to reach the end cause the game is so good! I'm calling it, I will not stop playing this game until I clear all difficulties, get all achievements and clear all chapters with platinum. Unless the game decides to smack me down for being so foolish. God knows I struggle with the golden versions of Grace and Glory on Normal. Are there achievements for clearing it on Easy/Very Easy?

Yeah, Gracious and Glorious are a pain. I think there is reward for beating the game on Easy, I'm pretty sure there's an achievement for it too. I started an Easy game shortly after the first play through and quit. I'm all for having a range of difficulty in games so those who don't care enough to really learn a game can still experience the mage, but Easy mode was kinda boring.

And yes, I did love the concept stuff. :D

Yeah, if you beat Easy mode it unlocks the medallion so you can buy it in Rodin's shop. There's also an achievement for beating the game on any mode, but you get additional achievements for going through Normal, Hard, etc.

I started a game on Hard mode, and for the one battle where you have to execute three torture attacks within three minutes, the enemies are replaced with Grace and Glory...ugh. I hear they're all over the place in Hard mode.

Started this yesterday and it's no joke. I thought from your description that it wouldn't be so bad considering I had witch time to rely on, only to remember that the whole fight is in witch time...And if Grace and Glory can string a combo against you, as they did a bit on Hard, then you can say goodbye to nearly half your life. Needless to say a bit of patience for this is necessary, and you can't really afford to get hit otherwise your magic meter drains. And remember, taunting the enemy fills up your magic meter, don't neglect it!

Not playing it as much as I would like (damn studies) but I'm still enjoying it even now. Cleared Chapter 8 on Hard mode right now and it really is a different experience. You're naturally fighting Grace and Glory and Joy monsters an awful lot more, but even the lesser enemeies you see at the beginning of the game pack more of a punch and are just more agressive than they are on normal, so much so that you just have to be on as soon as the combat starts, and don't let up until you see those camera shutters start to click. One thing I need to work on is my dodge offset. Maybe it's because of how little space and time I have to evade enemy attacks at once but I always seem to mess up my combos when using dodge offset. I know for a fact it's because I'm holding down the right trigger as opposed to Y or B but it's just instinctive, I can't help it. If I could teach myself to do that then I'd be fine!

The aim is to be as good as this guy :o :o :o :o :o

At first, since I already have the hang of the game it's already easier and I've been getting lots of platinums in fights, so guess what, I'm playing with the Gaze of Despair, which is making the enemies a lot harder but at least gives me much more halos.

Today I'm gonna try to farm some halos in chapter 7. Already got the Durga, Durga Alt., Gaze of Despair and Selene's Light. Can't wait to get to the end of the game and buy everything !

I loved the hell out of this game, and it's one of very few games I'd actually like to try and get all the items in. Being able to replay every stage whenever you like is definitely a bonus for me, haha xD

I have to admit that I'm a bit lazy (and very easily excited) so I tend to button mash instead of actually learning combos XD;;; I think I got through the game on normal knowing, and consciously using, maybe two different combos, hahaha xD I absolutely hated the Grace and Glory battles, aaaah (but in a good way).

I just completed this on Hard yesterday! What amazed me however was that on my first playthrough of the Epilogue, on Normal, I got a Stone award. Tried it only once on Hard and guess what? Platinum!! Quite the turnaround XD Got a sweet new LP for it but it still leaves two which I haven't found. Again, I'll work getting past Non Stop Infinite Climax (what a difficulty name btw XD) and round up the remaining achievements as there's only about 3 or 4 left.

Just to note, the Queen outfit is hot! XD

Guys I'm so excited about this game all over again. As I said I was gonna try farming some halos and read some guides for chapter 7.
At first I was a little disappointed because on my first try I only got about 150k, Ok, not that bad.
But on my 4th run on the boss, over 500k and to boost my combo went almost to 5 millions! 500k in seven minutes, I'm just buying everything I can.
But I'll probably do this only a few more times, so I can buy some extra clothes at end game and on hard in chapter 2, I'll do the Durga/Kilgore glitch on the boss, people say if you do it bad you can net 7MILLIONS halos, doing right, about 13 millions.
Title: Re: Bayonetta

Dayumn! 500k is pretty big in itself but 7million?! :o :o

You know how some things sound good on paper but when put into practice it's less desirable? For example, if I were to say, Non-Stop Infinite Climax you might think oh wow, a climax that never stops, what could go wrong? Until you realise that doing so will undoubtedly leave you feeling very tired, sore and dehydrated. Well a same thing happened to me when I tried the difficulty of the same name. 'Oh', I thought, 'this sounds like fun, don't expect it to be too bad though'.

Wrong.

I knew something was afoot when just as I was about to tackle an enemy, a tutorial came up asking me to do witch time. Did it successfully with a prompt then coming up informing me that witch time is disabled for this difficulty. :o :o :o Kind of difficult in itself, but then you take into account the type of enemies I fought that I had to rely on Witch time to defeat like Grace & Glory and especially Joy's. I got hit twice by Grace and Glory when trying to execute a torture attack and I think 1/2 of my life bar was depleted. And yes witch time is disabled even for the artificats too. I countered with the Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa and it didn't work either.

Despite how difficult it sounds, I'm twisted enough to enjoy the challenge. Thing about it is, if you can do well in this, then there's no reason why you can't go back and dominate the earlier difficulties. Better hone my dodging skills. Secretly dreading what the boss battles will be like :nervous

It's not that hard to net 7mi, all you need to know is hot to do the Durga/Kilgore glitch and you're good to go! Kill the boss on chapter 2 on hard using the combo from the glitch and don't miss the quicktime event!

Not even Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa worked ? It must be near insane!  :inlove:

Oh good lord, I had 3 Red Drop Shots, and after playing through Chapter 1 on Infinite Climax mode I now have...0 XD

Just remembering about this now, but has anyone ever heard Bayonetta speak in Japanese? Seems to me that it's triggered after getting Pure Platinum medals, but it rarely happens.

Post by: Tuffty on June 21, 2010, 01:17:34 AM
Just keep at it mate. The more time you play it the better understanding you will have of dodging at the right time. For example, when you're fighting the lowly guys with the staffs you'll notice just before they start to attack there's a flash and an audio cue, that's when you should press on that right trigger. And when you eventually build up enough halos, you can always buy the Selene's Light accessory, it activates witch time automatically if you get hit. Pretty handy til you get the hang of it. The more difficult part comes with Dodge Offset, I still can't quite master it, I instinctively keep holding down on the wrong button I think.

I just played Chapter 2 of Infinite Non-Stop Climax and I just realised something. I'm gonna do terribly when fighting Jeanne  :bleed eyes: Witch time helped a lot and now I can't rely on that! I swear enemies definately do more damage in that mode too.

Bayonetta game director Yusuke Hashimoto has promised to share "new information" related to the acclaimed beat-'em-up this week.

Could this be a sequel?

"Good morning," tweeted Hashimoto, cheerily (via andriasang). "It looks like we'll be able to share new information related to Bayonetta this week. Look forward to it."

SEGA offered a flat "no comment" to Eurogamer when approached earlier.

Supporting the sequel argument are comments made by SEGA West boss Mike Hayes in March this year, who said the publisher could "sequel-ise" Bayonetta.

The andriasang report added that Hashimoto has apparently expressed interest in developing a spin-off game set in the Bayonetta world.

Bayonetta was released in October 2009 in Japan, and in January in the West. Eurogamer bloody loved it.

Please be a sequel. Please be a sequel.  Please be a sequel.  Please be a sequel....

You know that news about Bayonetta due for this week? Well it's arrived and...no sequel. Instead, it's the announcement of a new 'Greatest Hits' version in Japan. Same game as before, only with a lower price tag and a new reversible game cover

I cleared Infinite Non Stop Climax mode and got all the achievements! :w00t: I never had to rely on lollipops as much as in INSC mode. I once had 5 red shots going into Chapter 15 and ended up using them all! And it even made the Space Harrier section more difficult considering you can't go into witch time as you dodge the fireballs, if a shot hit you, then you could have expected about 1/4 of a life bar taken away :o It's made easier if you use those rosary beads, the ones that drop a bomb if you successfully dodge rather than witch time. I don't think I could have handled the game without it. And the achievement is just given out no matter how bad you do, so long as you clear it, and seeing as you have infinite continues, then it's somewhat easier than you would think. But still hard, believe me getting anything more than a stone statue at the end is not easy. And the reward for clearing this mode? Another angel LP which is a freaking lightsaber! :w00t:

And yet I'm not finished with the game. There's one more angel LP to get, 3 more accessories and fragrances to get (not sure how though), those crows to collect though I might not bother and perhaps most excitingly, a lost chapter to play through. To get it, it seems you need to clear all Alfheim challenges and you get it unlocked when you clear that chapter you're on. And the lost chapter itself was something I thought was missing in Bayonetta, a gauntlet mode. Starts off normal, then gets progressively harder as it goes on. Can't access the item menu either so you have to really manage your health, though small health gems are dropped at the end of each round anyway. And it seems long! I got up to 10 fights, a battle with Jeanne and those angels shaped like wheels that go on fire and that circle around before I even cleared Verse 1. And no continues. You die somewhere and that's it. Love it, I'm gonna play the hell out of this, it may get crazy the more fights you get into! :w00t:

*EDIT*

Proof if ever it was needed XD

I finished Chapter 12 yesterday!!!
Never thought I'd even get this far  XD
I only earn stone statues though, Verse medals are the complete range, yesterday I got my first stone medal though, didn't know you could get stone XD

I love this game, the story, the characters, the action and style, the music, everything just fits together perfectly.
Bayonetta's bad-ass as bad-ass can be and still able to show a human side. Cereza is soooooo cute!!!!

I'll never play it on the hard modes though, that's for sure.

Oh since your the true Bayonetta Expert here Tuffty, can you tell me if the Alfheim Portals are any different on different difficulty modes? Or are they always the same?
I haven't managed to finish any of the ones I encountered yet.

I never played any of the DMC games, but since everyone says Bayonetta is so much more crazy and over the top, then DMC must be a real sleeping-pill
Title: Re: Bayonetta
Post by: Tuffty on September 14, 2010, 07:58:08 PM
Surprising to me, yes the Alfheim portals do change slighty depending on the difficulty you're in. Their goals are always the same like Execute 5 torture attacks or Defeat enemies using only witch time, but the enemies you face do differ and are obviously harder. But luckily if you want to get the achievements tied to Alfheim portals, you only need to find and clear them on Normal or lower to get them. Also, the reward you get for clearing them doesn't change either, so there are no Broken Witch Heart or Moon Stones hidden away in these upper difficulties.

I never played any of the DMC games, but since everyone says Bayonetta is so much more crazy and over the top, then DMC must be a real sleeping-pill

Well if Bayonetta is the most over-the-top game, Devil May Cry 3 and 4 are a very close second! Killing demons with pool balls or surfing on a missile is still pretty crazy. XD But yes, somehow Bayonetta manages to become a lot more OTT than those, something which I once thought impossible. But I love them both for being like that! I hope it never changes.

Here's something I found that was interesting. A character deconstruction on what makes Bayonetta one of the best female game characters yet, no spoilers.

Hey Tuffy, I'm on my way on hard to later NSIC, I'd like a suggestion from you.
I didn't get all the hearts and moon pearls on my first playthrough as even though I had already beaten it, since I was from scratch on another system, I wanted to just go as I felt it the first time. Anyway, did you do the Alfheim portals you had left on hard ? Or you think it's better to do them in normal mode and then keep on hard ? The same thing for collecting the other stuff, what would you do ?

I've done the first two Alfheim of chapter 2 on hard and man, is it a challenge! The 3rd one I tried so much but simply could not do it, within a reasonable 30 min time frame. So I just went on to finish some other time.

Oh, and just a simply question: Have you tried using the Bracelet of Time (the one you activate Witch Time as you want expending magic) in Non Stop Infinite Climax ?
Title: Re: Bayonetta
Post by: Tuffty on September 30, 2010, 10:10:14 PM
Well if it's any consolation, I didn't get all the witch hearts and moon pearls either when I completed INSC. I'd say a full bar of health and half of another should help you out. I'd even say it's really up to you and your playstyle on how you want to approach hard and INSC. Are you wanting to get through INSC without using many items and trying to clear the stages without hitting a continue if only for that extra challenge? If so then maybe you should got do all the alfheim portals and get that health bar and magic meter boosted up. Or would you just play through it without really caring and using lollipops to back you up should you need it? Then I'd say you would be fine enough without clearing all the alheim portals for now and stock up on some items. One thing you must do eventually though is actually find and clear those portals on normal, cause I think that's how you open the lost chapter. It's great.

Haven't used Bracelet of Time cause I haven't got it! Not sure how. Have you got it? I imagine it works the same way as Moon of Mahaa Kalaa or Selene's Light in that it completely disables witch time apart from when the story or level progression demands it. Really, your best friend in INSC mode is the Rosary beads, I feel dirty when using them, like it's an exploit of the game that the developers didn't want in there cause it can remove a lot of the difficulty. Oh well! Ain't gonna stop me using it!

The lost chapter is brutal, 10 fights including a battle with Jeanne and then you start Verse 2, where the enemies swing faster and hit harder. And you can't regenerate health apart from picking up health drops if you kill an angel with a torture attack. Though you can rotate between weapons, you can't use items or switch accessories, but, whatever two accessories you were wearing in the story chapters before playing this, carries over into it. So to help me out, I equip the Star of Dineta, which regenerates health if you taunt and enemy, and it works. So sometimes if I'm in a bad way, I leave one pithy angel left and taunt him over and over to get back that health

Got some quick questions again? ^^

I'm almost finished (only need to beat Jubileus)
Do the Halo's, Item's and in general the stuff you bought at Rodin's carry over into a new game?
The things in the Rodin's Good's section, are they just costumes or do they have any effects?
Title: Re: Bayonetta
Post by: Tuffty on October 03, 2010, 01:14:46 PM
Yep, everything carries over! Bayonetta's structure is a little different from the norm, but similar to other action games in that you can replay any level at any difficulty anytime. In fact, if I remember, you don't even have to progress through the story on later difficulties in a sequential fashion. When you open Hard mode up you could totally play at the end level and work your way back to the Prologue if you wanted to! But yes you can buy say, 3 Green lollipops while playing Chapter 5 on Hard, never use them and then play the Epilogue on Normal and still have those green lollipops for you to use.

They are costumes with no in game benefits yes. It's a little strange the way it works though. If you want alternate costumes you can choose to wear, then I suggest you buy the Super Mirror first. Doing so then unlocks other options in the menu which are just different outfits to purchase. If you actually want to change costume you go out into the menu before you start a Chapter and open up your submenu (by pressing the right bumper) and there will be an option there called Costume Change. But there are other things as well known as 'Essences', which are tied to certain Angel LP's you collect. These also change Bayonetta's look if you're just wearing her default costume. I think they're only made available once you beat the game and you've got the appropriate LP e.g. you can't purchase Essence 1 if you don't own the whip. To wear these you have to be wearing Bayonetta's default costume and go into your item menu during your gameplay and then actually 'set' the essence from there. When you go back out and you say have the essence for the ice skates equipped, you'll see that Bayonetta is wearing a tutu like a figure skater. It's a little thing that can be toggled on and off which is pretty neat. I like the essence if you have Durga equipped on both feet :D

Oh and good luck against Jubileus! :D

PlatinumGames has offered the strongest indication yet that Bayonetta fans will get the sequel they crave.

Co-founder Atsushi Inaba told Eurogamer the Japanese developer "would love" to make Bayonetta 2 and will do so "when the time is right".

Inaba, who was the producer of upcoming science fiction action game Vanquish, responded to questions surround a tweet from fellow PlatinumGames co-founder Hideki Kamiya.

"Will there be a Bayonetta 2?" a fan asked the Bayonetta and Devil May Cry director on Twitter last month. "I believe so," he replied.

"She'll be back if you believe so," he said to another follower.

"There is no concrete plan or schedule that we can talk about," Inaba told Eurogamer. "It's not like Kamiya said, 'Okay, we're going to make this.

"But Bayonetta is definitely a special IP for us. We loved creating that game. We think it was a really good game.

"We would love to make a sequel to it when the time is right. That's all we can say."

Bayonetta met a warm reception from hardcore gamers and critics, and respectable sales, when it was released late last year in Japan and early this year in the West. Publisher SEGA has indicated it may be up for a sequel.

Hmmm not sure how they want to top Bayonetta with a sequel, but I'd be in if there ever comes one along.

Btw has anyone bought the guide book from FuturePress?
Didn't know there was one, saw it at amazon, still thinking if I should get it, those extra pages of Artwork are very tempting, and as long as there is no official Bayonetta Artbook...

There is an official Bayonetta book, in Japanese. I don't know how much text there is though. I wanted it so bad even before the game came out. I still haven't even looked into much though once I got caught up in the game. I'd love to see the art, but only if there are more sketches and paintings than models.

Oh boy, there are even two books.
One is a sort of photobook with only CGI stills and the other is a real Artbook with mostly the concept art that's in the game's art gallery but also a lot more.
The Eyes of Bayonetta Artbook Review (http://parkablogs.com/content/book-review-%E3%83%99%E3%83%A8%E3%83%8D%E3%83%83%E3%82%BF%E8%A8%AD%E5%AE%9A%E8%B3%87%E6%96%99%E9%9B%86-eyes-of-bayonetta)

I started playing Bayonetta last night and the first thing I've got to say is... Wow, I never knew I could die so much in each part of a game :nervous

Just playing through the prologue, I could tell I'd die a lot, but still, I was hoping I could do better in normal mode. Oh well, this game is such fun!!

I actually started laughing in the prologue when Bayonetta's priestess/nun-type clothes got cut in those places and the sounds she made. Oh, the fanservice XD

I'd love to use all those nice combos, I assure you, but in the heat of battle, I tend to forget most of them. The closest I get to thinking coherently is "Hmm... Let's press buttons at different speeds, that way we can make a different combo!" Truthfully though, planning out combos to use just doesn't work for me because then I get too caught up on using it then take more damage than I should. Boss battles are so fun because all the wicked weaving you do. I still don't really get the concept of my magic power meter because I don't do anything differently, although I guess wicked weaving depletes it. Not that I notice :P

May I just say, although I'm sure many of you have said it already, that Bayonetta is one sleek and sexy witch? The voice <3 I'm usually not the biggest fan of the English accent, but she makes me want to me a nice English girl. I tend to look at her more than the attack when I activate a wicked weave.

I'm starting to see little point in lollipops. I made green lollipops with concoctions and bought a few, but they're the only ones I use. I have some of the other colours, but I never really want to use them. Even with the green lollipops, I don't feel like getting them anymore because I have a tendency to die anyway. It's alright, I'm used to getting Stone awards or whatever they are at the end of chapters. The best I got was a silver award and then a bronze award. I've been stoned ever since.

I'm not sure whether I ought to be saving up for accessories and weapons, but I just save up for techniques at the moment. They're handy enough. Heel stomp makes me feel pretty badass. Haha, I used it once when fighting against Grace & Glory for the second time in the game and immediately regretted it. I just had to do it when they were both together and only one was down on the ground... Heh.

The first time I fought Grace & Glory, I was thinking, "Oh shit, these are the two that everyone was complaining about" but then I beat them easily and was kind of confused. Then my ass got kicked a few times the second time around. I have to say, though, my most proud moment so far was beating them in our third fight. I took down Glory in the first few seconds. It helped that I still had my chainsaw from my previous encounter with Harmonies. After that it was just Grace against me and I was on a roll. Kicked his flaming ass and didn't take one hit in the whole battle. It may have been my first platinum medal for a battle ever, but that just made it feel so much better.

I don't think I've found out the name of the lady with white hair, but I'll guess she's Jeanne, judging by Bayonetta's flashback. The last thing I did before turning off my PS3 today was beat her and finish chapter V. I had no idea how I was going to beat her at first because I was using Scarborough Fair and the shotguns on feet for my set A weapons and frankly, I didn't have shit on her. By accident, I changed to my set B that has Shuraba and Scarborough Fair on the feet. Before getting killed again, I noticed that I managed to take a large chunk of Jeanne's healthbar, so I used the katana the next time around and kicked ass. Somehow, I started timing my evades a lot better and getting quite a bit of witch time in, which undoubtedly sped up the process... for me, not Jeanne, I guess :P

A panther, huh? Bloody amazing 8D

As things are now, I'm definitely impressed by the gameplay, though it kills my eyes. The story is a little lacking in the way that I have no idea what is happening or why it's happening. I just figure that it'll all come together later. The music is fantastic!! I love that it's so upbeat. I remember in other games how tense the serious, urgent music in battles made me. The music in Bayonetta's battles really helps you enjoy the combat more. Also, I love the smooth music in Hell's Gate. I miss hearing that cover of 'Fly Me to the Moon' though :(

So yeah! I'm going to be starting Chapter VI when I start playing again. Looking forward to it!

It's really not a problem if you're 'button mashing' early on. I consider Bayonetta to be so perfectly balanced that you can absolutely do that in the game should you wish. It's just that it only get's you so far. You cannot do that to Jeanne for example. You'll quickly learn that Y -> B -> Y combo is your best friend :D

I'm starting to see little point in lollipops. I made green lollipops with concoctions and bought a few, but they're the only ones I use. Don't get discouraged! Bayonetta can be challenging, I died aplenty on Normal and still get my ass handed to me in later difficulties. If you feel like you are struggling a little, then why not use a Green lollipop? Or a red one to boost strength? Or yellow for defense? As you say, you're not really interested in the awards, so it won't affect you so much. You can always go back and play the chapters for perfection once you got the mechanics all nailed down.

The first time I fought Grace & Glory, I was thinking, "Oh shit, these are the two that everyone was complaining about" but then I beat them easily and was kind of confused. They're certainly annoying in the beginning. No, I think that the uh, 'evolution' of those guys are the hardest. You'll see why lol

Heh.

Yeh spend it on techniques first. Weapons and accessories you can forget about til later.

I miss hearing that cover of 'Fly Me to the Moon' though :(

lol don't worry about that. Honestly. XD

Hehe, that's exactly how it was for me XD and somehow I made it through the game.

I random button mashed through that entire game!  AND IT WORKED!

I never learned the combos much, just perfected evading. I bought all the dodge abilities first thing. There was one combo I would always use in witch time that destroyed, I think it was xxyyy.

That's pretty much how I play all action games though. Dodge/jump/roll around like a mofo.

I'm back to having a blast all over again. I started playing again a few weeks ago and was getting really frustrated. I keep doing really well, then I get hit once and then get my ass kicked from there. I finally beat Hard mode and once I started Non-Stop Infinite Climax, I changed the way I play, using the Dodge Offset and fighting strategies. I was still getting my ass kicked, by I went back in to Hard mode and started doing a lot better, getting Gold trophies in levels I got Stones in the first time. I still start out doing well, only to get messed up in just one or two verses (Usually it's one combo that ends up taking all my life).

Impressed with Bayonetta? How would you like to have a sequel of the game? If you're a fan, then you'll be glad to know that there's going to be a Part 2.

The official confirmation was made via Hideki Kamiya's Twitter account, where he confirmed that Bayonetta 2 is in fact in development. A fan asked if there will be a sequel, and when it will be shown to the public first.

"In next year's TGS will we see a first look on the new Bayonetta? Or at least when are we going to?" To which Kamiya replied, "You'll see soon." He also later on divulged, again via Twitter, that they've already got DLC plans for Bayonetta 2.

Now all that fans have to do is keep their patience and wait for the official reveal of Bayonetta 2.

DLC before the game is even officially announced? Sounds kind of fishy to me, though.

Fuck! I tried out Bayonetta again after some time and retried the Angel Slayer chapter. Got through Verse 1 ok, then totally forgot that they ramp up the damage and speed of the enemies for Verse 2 so I struggled a bit XD But I went the furthest I had ever gone, had about a quarter of my life left and then I reach the next stage, and I have to fight two Jeanne's :bleed eyes: I didn't last long.

I heard Bayonetta speak in Japanese once or twice but now I know what it means! It's a reference to Akira from Virtua Fighter and one of his win quotes :D

Wesley Burt (concept artist) drew this concept art when the game was still in development. As you can see, it's a more Western approach on the character.

I just saw these this morning and thought the librarian look was way better too. I think these designs make her look tougher, but less feminine. The more feminine look fits better with her sexy style.

Hold onto your glasses, Bayonetta 2 could be unveiled this week.

Quote
Platinum Games could be about to go public with a follow-up to its acclaimed action title Bayonetta, judging by a Tweet from director Hideki Kamiya.

In response to a question from a follower as to when a sequel might be announced, Kamiya replied "This week... in a game magazine...", according to Andriasang's translation.

Of course, he could be pulling our legs, but with Tokyo Game Show kicking off in just over a fortnight, that timing doesn't sound too far-fetched.

This isn't the first we've head of a Bayonetta sequel. Last October, Platinum founder Atsushi Inaba said "We would love to make a sequel to it when the time is right". A month prior to that, when asked whether we could expect more from the franchise, Kamiya said "I believe so".

We've asked Sega for comment, and will update if a confession is forthcoming.

I'd be very sad if Kamiya turned out to be trolling us.

Turns out, Kamiya was trolling us!

Quote
The game magazine he's apparently referring to is Famitsu, and contents of that publication have already leaked onto the internet. No Bayonetta 2!

Atsushi Inaba, a producer at Platinum Games quickly hoped on Twitter, to put out this fire, saying that there is no Bayonetta 2 reveal this week.

"We aren't showing anything new, guys!" Inaba wrote, adding that Kamiya likes to "skirt the line with his jokes on twitter" and added that he was going to flick Kamiya in the ear.

Damn you Kamiya!! Though I think he may have announced the sequel earlier than the publishers would have liked. :P

Publishers: TGS hasn't started yet!
Kamiya: Oh... It hasn't? {innocently twiddles fingers}

[publishers turn around and leave]
Kamiya: {evil grin}

No word of a sequel yet but she will be included in Platinum games brawler, Anarchy Reigns, as a pre-order bonus:

Here's something interesting I just found out, Hideki Kamiya, the creative mind behind Bayonetta, did his own gameplay commentary on the Platinum website. Some pretty cool insight if you can afford to rewatch another playthrough of Bayonetta (all 50 parts and ongoing!!). The link to the first set is here (http://platinumgames.com/tag/developer-commentary/page/5/)

BAYONETTA 2 BIATCHES!!!!!

BAYONETTA 2 Trailer - Wii U - Nintendo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hirJAOc2D3k#ws)

It was officially unveiled today by Nintendo, surprisingly, at their press event for the Wii U. More than that, they've got the publishing rights, so Bayonetta 2 will be a platform exclusive. It's an announcement that has me equally giddy with excitement as well as disappointed. I don't see enough on the Wii U at this moment in time to convince me to buy it at launch, and even then I don't think it's justifiable to buy a console for one game.

But then I should be glad and excited that it's coming at all. People forget that Bayonetta 2 was cancelled and SEGA didn't seem to want anything to do with it despite it being Platinum's highest selling game thus far. So I'm hugely excited it's coming and am also incredibly thankful for Nintendo in having faith in it. While I wish it wasn't a platform exclusive, I definately will play it at some point, because IMO, Bayonetta is not only the best game of it's type, but one of the best games this generation.

...I'm excited. I'm gonna play some of the original again tonight for kicks. :w00t:

As much as I liked Bayonetta, I won't go out and buy a Wii U for this. I'm not going to make the same mistake that I made with the Wii.
I wonder though how they will incorperate the tablet controller into the gameplay, or if it's going to support only a normal controller.

I like how people are so pissed off about this that they'd rather there was no Bayonetta 2 at all XD

Nintendo is the only reason there IS a Bayonetta 2 since your best buddies Sony and Microsoft wouldn't help out with publishing/development costs, but Nintendo did, so kindly shut the f up :)

I was pretty freakin' excited about the news, especially since for once a game I like is on a console I own though the Wii U's price makes me want to cry. But at least, I can just save up to buy it instead.
