In Star Trek Online, the Star Trek universe will appear for the first time on a truly massive scale. In this massively multiplayer online game from Cryptic Studios, players can pioneer their own destiny as Captain of a Federation starship. Or, they can become a Klingon Warlord and expand the Empire to the far reaches of the galaxy. Players will have the opportunity to visit iconic locations from the popular Star Trek fiction, reach out to unexplored star systems, and make contact with new alien species. With Episode Missions, every moment spent playing Star Trek Online will feel like a new Star Trek episode in which you are the star. Immerse yourself in the future of the Trek universe as it moves into the 25th century: a time of shifting alliances and new discoveries.

I know we have some other Trekkies here, but you all can't act like you don't like some Star Trek. I'm pumped about this game, shat bricks when it was first announced. After being disappointed with the initial development, I'm starting to like how it's shaping up under Cryptic. I'm hoping the game does Star Trek justice (and ST could really use a good game for once). Haven't done an MMO since I quit WoW 3 years ago, but I'm thinking I might jump back into the grind with this bad boy. WHO ELSE IS PUMPED? Anyone gotten in to the beta? Share your experiences (if you can, lol NDAs)! Can I expect to see USS Rikas Ass? :jphip: Totally playing a Klingon (my favorite with Romulans and Cardassians) UFP always holds a special place
DS9 was here, bein the superior Trek

This and The Old Republic are two MMOs that look like they have a chance in this post-WoW world.  I have a lot of hope for this one, being a Trek fan since I was 5 years old.   My main problem is that I'm not so sure how willing I am to invest the time into another MMO, I JUST kicked the WoW-habit this week and I'm not quite ready to give up my life again~

The major points of this video are:
  • Basic strategy is to use energy weapons to focus fire down one section of the shields, and then fire photon torpedoes to take out the exposed hull.
  • Three basic types of ships:
  • Cruiser - Tough ships. The tank.
  • Escort - Really fast and maneuverable. The DPS.
  • Science - Buffs teammates and debuffs enemies. The support.
  • You can customize both crew and components on the ship. Items / "components" of the ship make it unique and provide specific abilities and strength of abilities.
  • Different equipment which you can equip include: weapons, deflector dish, impulse engines, and consoles.

Lookin pretty good :yep:

Hailing Frequency, a fansite devoted to Star Trek Online, unearthed an interesting piece of news a few days ago: an upcoming Star Trek Online tie-in novel.

Details are a bit sketchy, but the important ground is covered. The author of the book is none other than Michael A. Martin, an old hand at writing Star Trek novels. The title will be "Star Trek Online: The Needs of the Many", it will have 340 pages, and the release date is set for March 30th, 2010.
Could be awesome, already have a large collection of Star Trek books, been a while since I bought any so this could be a nice addition :yep:

As a Klingon commander, players control the boar-like Targ, a beast found on the Klingon home world of Qo?noS.
* Amazon -- Amazon is offering an exclusive Liberated Borg Bridge Officer. This bridge officer, who comes with unique nanotechnology augmentations, assists in missions and gains experience as the player does.

* Target -- Target customers who preorder Star Trek Online receive a unique ground weapon ? a TR-116. This rare projectile weapon is used in dampening fields and other challenging environments; it is also modified with a micro-transporter which beams the fired projectiles to targets at close range so that a user can fire without a direct line of site.
* Direct2Drive -- Direct2Drive customers receive an exclusive Multi-Spatial Personal Shield. This advanced personal shield system is based on Borg technology, which constantly regenerates itself and the health of its wearer.
* STEAM -- STEAM is offering customers Chromodynamic Armor. This armor is based on technology brought back from the Delta Quadrant by U.S.S. Voyager improves the damage and critical hits of energy weapons.

Shot some borgs

Teleported out into space and was like WTF@! Am I sposed to be standing in the middle of space like this
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_screenshot_2010-01-16-14-26-10.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/screenshot_2010-01-16-14-26-10.jpg)

Then my spaceship thingo finally appeared and I flew around and shot some stuff
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_screenshot_2010-01-16-14-27-53.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/screenshot_2010-01-16-14-27-53.jpg)

Then I went to this planet and got a rifle and did some mission
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_screenshot_2010-01-16-14-43-29.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/screenshot_2010-01-16-14-43-29.jpg)

Then I got back in my ship and went to dock at the space station and this happened
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_screenshot_2010-01-16-15-02-33.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/screenshot_2010-01-16-15-02-33.jpg)

I thought that was cool! But that's kinda fake don't you think? Those spaceship things are sposed to be a lot bigger right?

Eventually my character appeared and I ran around and picked up some quests.
Then I beamed back to my ship which wasn't there so I stood on the Earth for a bit waiting for it to appear.
(http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_screenshot_2010-01-16-15-18-54.jpg) (http://www.eyeballcancer.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/screenshot_2010-01-16-15-18-54.jpg)

I don't even know if I can explain with words how much I wanted to laugh when that happened on the Giant Bomb quick look. I was trying to hold it in because there were people around but I ended up making squeaky sounds instead. :/

Our latest content update, Season Two: Ancient Enemies, will be available in July 2010. In Ancient Enemies, you'll encounter and do battle with even more of Star Trek's iconic races, enjoy all new Episodes and experience Star Trek Online in brand new ways. Here's some of what you can expect in Season Two: Ancient Enemies:

We're raising the level cap from 45 all the way to 51.

With the new distinction comes a new set of rewards and content:
  • New Tier 5 ships for both the Federation and Klingon factions. The Federation will receive an Exploration Cruiser retrofit featuring saucer separation, a Tactical Escort retrofit with a non-combat cloaking device and a Long Range Science Vessel retrofit with ablative generators. The Klingon Empire will receive the Kar'Fi Carrier, a Fek’Ihri Tactical Carrier with kamikaze S'Kul Fighters.
  • Level 51 versions of every Special Task Force mission and Fleet Action.
  • Mark XI gear rewards.

Klingon Episodes
In Season Two: Ancient Enemies, the Klingon faction will feature eight brand new Episodes tailored specifically to the Empire.

These Episodes star the Fek'ihri, the fabled enemy of Kahless, founder of the Klingon Empire. In Season Two, the Fek'ihri have returned and have again set their eyes upon Qo'noS. It's up to you and your friends to protect the jewel of the Empire from occupation!

The Federation Diplomatic Corps
There's more to life than leading with the sword. The Federation Diplomatic Corps brings subtlety to galactic turmoil. To kick off the new gameplay option, we're introducing First Contact missions in which you'll meet and interact with brand new civilizations.

As you progress with your diplomacy, you'll earn special ranks and rewards within the Diplomatic Corps, so you'll be rewarded for leading with the olive branch rather than the arrow.

Now Entering: Fluidic Space
In Season Two: Ancient Enemies, you'll continue your interaction with the Undine, venturing into their native Fluidic space to learn more about the enigmatic species and their struggle with the Borg.

The Undine story continues with five new Episodes, a Fleet Action and all new Deep Space Encounters.

Introducing Mini-Games
  • Coming to a space station near you is the casino game Dabo.
  • Anomaly Scan is a new way to discover resources in-game.

Feature Episodes, Weekly
  • In addition to all the great story-based Episodes we've got on tap for you, we'll be releasing new Feature Episodes every week, starting in August. These Episodes will introduce a new neutral mission giving race, the Deferi. Players of any level from both factions will be able to aid the Deferi against a new adversary. Be sure to keep an eye out for these special Feature Episodes as you enjoy Season Two!

Customization And More
We've got some great quality of life features headed your way, too. Some new improvements include:
  • Fleet Emblems: Fleets can customize their own emblems and display them on ships, giving a Fleet a unified appearance in space.
  • Improved Klingon Customization: All new costume options for Klingon Captains, and we've redesigned existing costume options to look better.
